The recent play of the Avalanche has gotten me thinking. It seems like their past few seasons have resembled the last few seasons of the Denver Broncos. Check it out.
Last year, the Broncos playoff hopes were dashed in the last game of the year when they lost to the 49ers - The Avs playoff hopes ended in the second to last game of the season with the loss to Nashville.
In the offseason, the Broncos made several huge free agent signings: Travis Henry, Brandon Stokley, and Daniel Graham - The Avs also made several large signings with Smyth and Hannan.
The Broncos were crippled by injuries to key players: Travis Henry, Javon Walker, Tom Lepsis, John Lynch, Champ Bailey...etc. The Avs have also been plauged by injuries to Sakic, Sauer, Smyth, Richardson, Arnason, Leoprone(of course), and Laperriere, just to name a few.
People expected a great season from the Broncos, and they fell far short of that with their 7-9 record. - Nearly halfway through the Avs '07/'08 season, they have been incredibly inconsistant and largely disappointing.
I'm not trying to come up with any deep meaning through all of this, I just think there are some interesting similarities. Hopefully the Avs are able to turn their season around, unlike their Mile High neighbors.
