Seriously, between Dater and almost all the comments, I'd say the Denver area is facing a major epidemic of crack use. How does acquiring a washed-up, 35 year-old goalie making $6.75 million make more sense than sticking with an ascending, talented young goalie who makes far less? Someone please explain to me how that can be considered a sound personnel move?

Agreed

Save the money, Khabibulin is NOT work the price. He’s only had like 4 seasons where his save % was over .910, otherwise, he’s really been pretty mediocre. If he were truly still a stanley cup goalie he’d have carried the young blackhawks alot farther than he did. We just washed our hands of a big name goalie mistake, let’s not make another.

Right on.

And I’ll say it’s interesting that so many of the comments to Dater’s post, as well as on various message boards, keep whining that Budaj isn’t a goalie who can “steal games,” when Bulin wasn’t able to steal any games for the Blackhawks, like, ever. The Blackhawks only improved significantly with Kane and Toews added (and Sharp, too), and still missed the playoffs. If Bulin was so great (and so game-stealing), why didn’t the Indian consistently reach the playoffs with him in net?

Maybe he didn’t embrace the Indian?

Stats

Taken from the Av-db boards:

Goalie 1
2.63 GAA, .909% = 2008
2.86 GAA, . 902= 2007
3.35 GAA, .886= 2006

Goalie 2:
2.53 GAA, .903% = 2008
2.68 GAA, .905% = 2007
2.86 GAA, .900% = 2006

Goalie 2 is 25-year old Budaj
Goalie 1 is 98-year old Bulin wall.

I believe in Peter Budaj

But but but it’s because Bulin played behind a weak team! Budaj was a consistent starter who played behind an extremely solid defense!!!! Oh wait…

Epidemic of crack use? Huh, former Broncos’ RB Travis Henry was actually arrested today on suspicion of cocaine dealing… Damn Broncos always messing with Avs fans’ minds…

Their’s so much worng with what he said.

I do think Budaj has talent and a good attitude, but I just haven’t seen enough to convince me he has what it takes to take an NHL team all the way.

That couldn’t be because he was never allowed to show what he could do. He only got a few consecutive starts where he dominated.

Khabibulin is in the final year of his contract. I always like a goalie who is playing for that next big deal. We saw what that motivation did to Jose Theodore last spring.

I can see his point here, why wouldn’t we want to take a huge cap hit to resurrect an old fossils career just so he can go over east for more money and claim it was always his first choice to sign with.

Yeah, let me comment on that first one as well:

You should’ve watched some Avs games! He’s been in the net for a total of 6914 minutes already and has always been solid, after getting consecutive starts

Peter Budaj must have one of those memory-erasing pens like in Men In Black. At the end of every game in which he plays well (most of them), he hits the button and everyone suddenly forgets what happened.
