Avs need to win this one
Edmonton is on the 2nd game of back-to-back, we’ve had 2 days of rest…this is one of those games you just have to pick up.
I would rank this a should win. Climb the NW standings. It not like the standing will be completely shuffled next week…………

Anybody in here?
I’ll be lounging around watching other games while waiting the excruciating 90 minutes until the Avs game starts.
In a few.
I’ll probably turn on Minnesota-Buffaslug in a few

I’m mainly staying on Buffalo-Minnesota. But I keep flipping to the Flamng Douches-Nashville game.

I use the NHL.com Gamecenter.
I think it’s worth it. The archived games are a great way to kill time. I watched Game 4 of the Wild playoff series and the 9-5 game against the Blues last year while I was at work last night.

I'm on Leafs game
I spent some time over at Pension Plan Puppets earlier and they were an interesting group to read, so I figured I’d watch a Leafs game or two. During intermission I’m enjoying homework.

It's a neat place
to kill some time if you’re bored. Lots to read when the MHH archives have all been read through (I was on a mission to find my first post on here, so I was reading through every article until I found it).

Leafs-Bruins
Since TSN is covering the Avs game right after.
Bad news is that its 10mins left, and it’s 2-2.
If only Sundin can get on the ice and score a goal, for either team, I don’t care. As long as this doesn’t go into OT.
It's a good game
but neither team is really showing lots of jump or a sense of urgency about getting that go-ahead goal.
by A.J. Haefele on Oct 23, 2008 7:13 PM MDT up reply actions
I don't usually watch them
So I have no idea. From what I’ve read on their blog, they aren’t even expecting to be any good this year. They look competitive, but not like a team that believes it can win.

And just like that
Toronto makes it 3-2. Hahahahaha.

Rebuilding mode
That’s what they call it this year.
But I figured they’ve been in rebuilding mode for at least 5 years.
Tim Thomas
just loves to flop around on the ice. Maybe he likes how cold it is with all that heavy equipment on?
Haha
That’s how I always describe my “dancing” to people.

Tim Thomas
even flopped around on the ice after the goal when he discovered the puck was past him.

Hold On Now
What if she works? She is cute and I’m sure you can find a better pic. I say don’t change until she fails.
Red Wings Suck
So the Leafs-Bruins game
Grabovski just gets tugged on pretty hard from behind, goes down, and doesn’t get the shot off. No penalty shot awarded. Yes, I’m still annoyed by the penalty shot handed to the Flyers.
Refs seem to be real flippy-flop about awarding penalty shots. Meh. What can you do?
(besides scream at the t.v.)
Red Wings Suck
I wish there was some clarification on it
because that call has left me bitter over it and every breakaway/penalty shot situation I see I’m going to be paying really close attention to. Just want some consistency is all.

Can't TG find a better wing for Sakic than Tucker?
This is really starting to bug me. So far it seems like Sakic and Wolski have some chemistry…but Tucker just doesn’t belong on that line (and don’t get me started on using him so much on the PP).
I know Jones was gripping the stick a little tight, but off the top of my head I’d say Svatos, McLeod, Willsie, Hensick, and maybe the stick boy would be improvements over Tucker on that line. And I don’t even hate Tucker.

Making it clear
Just want to make it clear… I don’t hate the Air Force, or servicemen… just don’t like the Cadets and football team because of them…

I follow you.
I have my reasons for loving certain Broncos from the Super Bowl teams and despising some of them based on personal experiences.

Never had an experience with him
But I had certain experiences with Terrell Davis that were fantastic and one with John Elway they made me hate him. It was memorable enough for Elway that last year when I saw him, he remembered me.

Yikes
That’s why I don’t think i ever want to meet the Athletes I admire (maybe Avs, but Hockey players are different). I think meeting your heroes is just setting yourself up for disappointment.
On the flip side.. I ran into Karl Mecklenberg at Waterworld, of all places, and he was pretty cool. So i like him even more than i used to

Yup.
I’ve met a lot of athletes outside of the arenas and a lot of them were not good experiences. If I can avoid it, I’m all for letting my chance to meet a star athlete go by the wayside. However, meeting Ed McCaffrey was one of the greatest overall experiences of my life. He was a great, great guy.

How bout them 'Yotes?
I will admit. I love watching Ovechkin play. I haven’t enjoyed watching a player from an opposing team play since Pavel Bure’s days in Vancouver.
Ovie is fricken awesome. I love the fact that he had an edge. Want to see him knock Crosby on his arse when they play each other.

Caps
I will end up watching a lot of Caps games this season. Ovie is my favorite non-denver athlete.

Exactly.
I love that he throws his body around. He’s just such a dynamic player that it must seem like the Caps have 6 guys on the ice when he’s out there.

'Yotes
I think they are a few years removed from a cup. They have some extremely underrated players (Hanzel and Mueller) and some good defenders (Sauer, Morris). With Bryzzy locked up and some solid FA signings I really think they will be a contender soon

On That Note
Does anyone remember how underrated the Avs were in 95-96 for the Cup? I can’t imagine they were favorites coming from Quebec. Honestly, I started watching hockey in the last round of the Cup playoffs that year and I only remember being memorized by the game of hockey, homer or not.
Red Wings Suck
Me too

I vaguely remember.
They had finished with a great record the year before, only to lose in the first round of the playoffs and following the move to media black hole Denver, things weren’t so great.

I remember the day that I was in my car and heard that Colorado was getting an NHL hockey team again. And a damn good one. I immediately became Quebec full-time on NHL 94 (Sega 16-bit) and started kicking arse.

NHL 94 is awesome.
I recently bought a rebuilt Sega Genesis and I picked that game up. Love those old NHL games (not that 09 isn’t amazing).

And for the record
I’m still mezmerized by the game. It’s so fast, and the players are so smooth and make it look so easy. It’s a beautiful, beautiful game to watch. And I already expressed my love for the sound of blades on the ice =p

I’m going to the Aeros practice facility this weekend for a free skating session before they practice. I haven’t been on ice skates for about 3-4 years.

I thought Kyle Keefe being on the bench during a TV timeout was the kiss of death. But in some strange way only the Whammy can explain his jinx was offset by Altitude putting McNabb down in the corner in possibly the worst place possible to watch a game. The Avs should do this for every home game now.
Oh, and Joe should hang out with the woman.

I used to buy into it and it screwed with me for the longest time. I do my best to convince myself that they mean nothing, but somehow my spooky past always seems to creep into the back of my mind. Haaate superstition.

I have never been in the lower bowl. Best i’ve done is 3rd row center ice

My season tickets are upper bowl corner. Not bad for the money (2nd cheapest in the house), attack twice, 2nd row in the section, section is furthest toward side in the price range, facing benches. But the Avs were real nice and gave season ticket holders, even low lifes like me, lower bowl seats for free to a few games this year.

Sweet
Wanna borrow my “I Believe in Budaj” sign? LOL
I was in the lower bowl for season opener and the only complaint is I couldn’t see all the goals scored on us.
I was in club level at the Flyers game and some jerk-off tried to buy me off as long as I wouldn’t cheer so loudly. A-hole. I told him where to stick it (in so many words).

Bib, the point being, as if you don’t know, be ready for lame fans who don’t cheer and plug their ears if you cheer or yell. The Can has become infested with snobs and non-hockey fans along with the damn Red Wings fans at non-Red Wing games.

BTW
I fully endorse the “Budaj-licious” sign. Cause, ya know, tonight’s game showed he is, again.

Wow, so this thread is now at 630+ comments. I think it’s not out of the question that we see a 1000-comment thread some time this season… Probably in the playoffs (if we make it, that is).
Budaj was just great this game. He seemed very confident and composed, I hope this continues for him.
Also, the defense did allow some nice passes and some nice break-ins into our zone, and the Oilers did buzz around our net for a good part of the 2nd period, but for the most part, they did not allow any easy scoring chances. By my count there were only 2 really good chances, they scored on one, and Budaj made a superb series of saves on the other. Overall, it was a really good game and a really nice win.
Go Avs!
by Mike, (Avs Fan) on Oct 23, 2008 10:49 PM MDT reply actions
To be fair, though
a lot of the comments came about hockey games other than the Avs game. Before it started, we talked a bit about various other games going on, and after the game we sat around checking out the Caps lose to Phoenix. But yeah, I think if the thread moves like it did tonight, we could very easily see a 1k thread.
by A.J. Haefele on Oct 23, 2008 10:52 PM MDT up reply actions
Okay...
I should probably stop stalking the thread and go spend my night off enjoying myself elsewhere. Of course, that means I’ll probably listen to Authority Zero all night while watching old hockey games on mute. You could say I have puck on the brain.
Awesome thread. Let’s do it again soon.
