Vancouver has problems
They've named Luongo as the captain. The guy's a goalie and therfore not allowed to be an official captain and had to put the C on his mask. Have they no normal players who can lead, must they resort to a goalie who isn't really a leader anyway.

There is no rule that goalies can’t be captains. Just tradition that they aren’t.
But yeah, Vancouver seems to lack leadership in a serious way. They have for a while now.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!

He can’t do many of the things you see other captains do, besides the traditional things like opening face-off.
You won’t be seeing Luongo skate up to chat/argue with refs during a disputed call.

Is the reason a goalie can’t do the traditional captain stuff. He skated up to argue so much it was slowing the game. And it effectively gave his team extra time outs. So, no more captaincy for goalies until now, and even so it seems like they’re reaching as he (drum roll) can’t do any captain type stuff…. What a load of trouble they are in
To be fair, the goalie can very well be a leader off the ice, just not on the ice for obvious reasons.
Some say Roy was the voice of the Avs in the locker room and Sakic was the lead by example guy.
Does Luongo deserve captaincy? I think not, he doesn’t seem to be the kind of guy to rile his team up during the intermission like Roy was.
The batshit crazy thing may be the card that Granato holds. He went batshit crazy at times as a player, and I appreciate the way he went batshit crazy during one of the Av-Wing games last year at Babcock. His current roster is a reflection of his desire to extend some batshit craziness on the ice once in a while. Hopefully against the wheel. With a bloody vengeance.
