He's Finally Going To Play
That's right, folks. After some very anxious anticipation, it sounds like we will finally get to see our beloved heart and soul on the ice. Yes, it's true...Daniel Tjarnqvist is expected to make his Avalanche debut tonight due to the injury to Adam Foote. It'll be very comforting to see that good old #29 on the ice.
In related news, some Sakic fella is supposed to play as well.

Any word on who else might be in the lineup tonight or what the lines might look like?

not really.
let’s take a guess:
Smyth, Stastny, Svatos
Willsie, Sakic, Hejduk
Tucker, Hensick, Jones
McLeod, McCormick, Lappy
I bet that’s not even close. But, Smyth Svatos and Stastny had a great shift late in the 3rd when Smyttie was double-shifting for Wolski and Tucker and Hensick have had good chemistry together (although I think Tucker has had an awful week). I originally had Sanjaya on the 4th line, but I decided to scratch him altogether. Willsie is a stretch for the 2nd line, but he also had some chances late in the game and did see some OT ice time…
Wolski’s absence really hurts the Avs. They have about 25 guys who can play RW and Center, but not a lot of Left Wingers.

actually, I wasn’t that far off.
[Sakic] skated a full practice at the Honda Center and could center a line with Milan Hejduk and either David Jones or Cody McCormick. Coach Tony Granato had a line of Ryan Smyth, Paul Stastny and Marek Svatos at practice. T.J. Hensick centered what should be a third line with Darcy Tucker and Brian Willsie.

McCormick-Sakic-Hejduk?
Really?

Granato is nothing if not consistent. he ALWAYS has a crush on those lines with 2 skill players and 1 random grinder, even in his first stint.

sounds like it boils down to whether Jones or Arnason is the healthy scratch. If Jones plays, he plays with Sakic and McCormick centers the 4th line. If it’s Sanjaya, he centers the 4th line and McCormick plays with Sakic.
honestly, I’d rather have McCormick up there than Tucker…

i think they’ll give Jones another shot. i really hope he clicks on that line, poor guy has barely had a chance with anyone but Arny.
by thedoctor on Nov 24, 2008 9:31 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
At least Arny looked like he wanted to play last game. He still wasn’t impressive and was easily knocked off the puck, but he got to the puck. But I wonder if he is worried because Willsie is now up and could possibly threaten him?

I really like McCormick for no particular reason, but 4th line to 1st is quite a jump. That’s either a testament to the Avs depth or… yeah.

I’m sorry, but if replacement by Brian Willsie (no offense to B-Dubs) is the only thing that motivates you to play harder, you have bigger issues than whether you should be an NHL player…

And shouldn’t he have been motivated by the call-up of TJ Hensick? After all, he’s a better player than Willsie.

I don’t know what they’ll do with Tjarnqvist. When Hannan missed his game, they moved the pairings around all day to protect Cumiskey. I think they have more confidence in Tjarnqvist, so it might be a little more, um, normal with him.

Jones
Jones with Sakic and Hejduk would have been awesome if it were about a month ago.
Jones must be going through something off the ice for sure. He was playing better at the end of last year. When he drives to the net and uses his size and speed he can be very effective. I hope that getting some time with Joe will help.
It is too bad that the next move would be to put McCormick on that line.
Is it just me, or does it seem like the Avs are almost “wasting” Sakic’s ablilities to produce by putting lesser players with him? I know he makes people better but at this point in his career he needs to play on a line that can use his skills to the fullest. At least last year he was with Bruno and a rotating “skilled” RW most of the year. This year his line has been shifting almost every night.
It feels like we are patching holes instead of creating situations for our O lines to succeed. Injuries happen to everyone, but you still need to produce.
