Names To Remember For the Future
It seems that the rebuilding process has begun for our once dominate franchise. But fear not my fellow Avaholics! There could be some light at the end of this dark tunnel that we find ourselves in. From the 2004-2008 draft class Paul Stastny and Wojtek Wolski have already played several seasons in the NHL with promising careers ahead of both of them. T.J. Hensick and Kyle Cumiskey are both on their way to earning permanent roster spots with the big club.
Here is the full article. I think that it is very encouraging to see the talent we have in the farm system about ready to make the jump to the NHL.

According to Hockey’s future the “The Colorado Avalanche system lacks significant high-end talent, but not depth.”
Hockey’s future is a very reliable source for prospects, ALMOST as trustworthy as Jori.

I agree that there may not be a LOT of high-end talent, but there is a lot talent nevertheless. And it may not be the high-end talent that saves us, but the role players packaged into some kind of deal later on down the road to get us some high end talent from someone that needs some role players.

that was the gist of the TSN article as well. not a bunch of first liners, but still a lot of NHL calibre guys.

That TSN piece is probably one of the best I’ve read regarding Avs prospects. Shane Malloy who wrote the story used to be on Hockey’s Future. It’s a brutal reality in while the Avs have nice depth and some intriguing prospects, they lack elite talent in their system, which doesn’t bode well for the immediate future of the franchise.
I think the organization has overrated some of it’s talent, but the cupboard (or cubbard for you HF folks :-) ) isn’t bare. I think Shattenkirk has a chance to be an impact player and I really like the defensive depth, but there isn’t an impact player on offense (despite Stoa’s breakout year). If the Avs continue on their current pace, they’ll be looking at drafting in the top 10 next June. The idea of adding a Jordan Schroeder, Nazim Kadri or even a Drew Shore couldn’t hurt.
