Relax
I’ve signed all my credit card reciepts “Go Avs!” today. I wore my lucky hat AND I’ll be at the game in person to end the streak. when we win, we can talk about public contribution to my season tickets.
Friendly reminder.
Everybody set your SPG’s.
I haven’t decided if I’m watching tonight or not. It could be pretty painful.
Colorado Avalanche: Gellin' and Propellin'!!!

It doesn't work
Loads fine but the video never plays. Might be bcause I’m in Australia, because I use Win2K and therefore have old versions of IE or whatever, or just because my computer doesn’t like it.

I'm too cheap
to pay for it.

Plus
i’m also in Australia so with the exchange rate in the crapper it’d cost a hell of a lot.

With me being in the military, nothing is too much to pay for me to get to watch my team play. I haven’t been able to watch many the last 4 years, and so this year i told myself I wasn’t going to miss a single game.

Sounds like me
I’ve managed to watch two live games in random cities, and like 4 games on TV in two years. This year I just threw down and said screw it.
I haven’t really got the time to watch many games anyway since their on during the day here,

Home game #500 for the Avs. Lets hope the Avs find something special, like a way to play a full 60 minutes.

How is this the 500th home game, didn’t they have a 500 game sellout streak which means they’d already have played 500 home games.

If anyone out there has NHL Centre Ice, I recommend you switch over and watch some of this game! It is in the 2nd intermission now, but there were 5 goals scored in a 6-7 minute span!

ITS A MIRACLE
I just saw on the NHL Gamecenter team list that #39 Tyler Arnason is a scratch with both Sakic and Hensiiick in the team lineup.

DUMB PENALTY! WHY GRAB HIM THERE!!
"I can't hear Jeremy because I have my 2 Stanley Cup rings plugging my ears!" -Patrick Roy
Hmm
It’d be great to see Stastny just try to take a guy 1-on-1. Him trying to get real cute with that pass cost a good scoring chance.
So
If you’re on the ice when the Avs are going to get called for a penalty while already on the power play, why wouldn’t you just give them the puck to get the most time ?
There’s mixed reasons….you can pull the goalie and have 6 on 4 as opposed to 5 on 3. It kind of depends on where you are on the ice.
With the new rules, if you are in your D zone, I’d give up the puck because the face off will be in you offensive zone.
Now and then we had the hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be PIRATES.
-Mark Twain-
See
I’d rather the 5-on-3 because there’s a lot more open ice to make something happen. But I guess if the unit has everything set up already, it would be easier to pull the goalie and slot in the 6th guy than trying to win the faceoff and set it all up again.
Exactly, and if you don’t score the second penalty hasn’t started, so you still get that 2:00.
Now and then we had the hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be PIRATES.

With 30 seconds left

My favourite comment so far
on JTV .com,
trade smyth and hannan to free up space to begin with, get biron, zetterberg and bouwmeester…sakic will retire…we have heaps of space
Why go after Biron, he’s not that much better than Boods has been, the Wings would never give us Zetterberg and it would cost heaps to get Bouwmeester.

R. Frost
Boumeester
would be a great pickup. We could use a mauler like he is, but at this point his value is overrated a little bit too much.
Zetterberg and Bouwmeester would both be great investments but they would cost us way too much to and the chances of even getting one, let alone both is next to impossible.

R. Leakey, Origins; 1977
"Two roads divurged in a wood, and I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference"
R. Frost
Well
I focused on Bouwmeester because he probably will be traded this year, but his return won’t be the originally hoped for Hossa-like return. We have recently found a happy trading partner in Florida, and we might be able to strike a reasonable deal with them again. That being said, I think Bouwmeester will ask for way too much money per year, probably in the $6-8 million range, and Colorado straight up can’t afford that and he isn’t worth that money.
Are we, talentwise, that bad? Because it feels like we either massively overrated our team pre-season, or we’re severely underplaying our talent.
If it’s the first, maybe we’re just all homers. But if it’s the second…wtf is wrong with our coaching?
I'd say underachieving
but we did have a great pre-season so we may have got our hopes up as well.

This is getting stupid
another post, and this is like the Oilers game earlier this year where we blasted 4 of them in a game.
Bad break. No goal though. :-(

this is frustrating, but I really like the Lappy-Guite-Tucker line. They’re making some stuff happen. And Hensiiick is for real. He has zero reason to go back to Lake Erie.

I’m not at all surprised. Just disgusted. We’re winning, and the defense has really played solid overall and a perfect game is unreasonable to expect, but damn it sucks to give the other team prime scoring chances like that.
Does that mean
Hensiiick already has more points than Arny.

I’d say we won that period, but it’s really been a pretty even game, which isn’t good. We should be wailing on Nashville, imo.

I switch over to the Stars-Sharks game and they have the entire Stars roster listed as a scratch.

It is Budaj's fault.
His tendency to talk to his posts has backfired on him because he apparently pissed off those posts and tonight they’re exacting their revenge by getting in the way of multiple Avs would-be goals. Where Dater is failing is that he is right in blaming Budaj, but hasn’t taken the proper initiative to go down and interview the posts to get the scoop on Budaj’s verbal abuse.
I never thought of that, it makes perfect sense. he’s also pissed off his pads by treating them badly and they’ve taken revenge by throwing out huge rebounds. It all makes perfect sense.

R. Leakey, Origins; 1977
"Two roads divurged in a wood, and I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference"
R. Frost
Yup.
His hot-headed, abusive personality causes all things around him to seek revenge. When the defense doesn’t clear the puck, it’s because he never picks up any checks. When a puck hits the post, it’s because Budaj gave them a tongue lashing and they haven’t forgotten. When the offense fails to score goals, it’s because the forwards are tired of being shown up by Budaj in practice when he takes off on “breakaways” and shows off his goal-scoring potential and screams “THATS HOW YOU DO IT!”
If Budaj wasn’t such an arrogant, selfish jerk, this team would be one of the top teams in the league.

Yeah
it’s not a bad place to live, the lack of ice hockey rinks, and fans, kinda ruins it but other than that it’s pretty cool.

I got lucky in Manly, I had two Canucks that I surfed with. It was fun putting the smack on the Oilers and the Maple Leafs fan. Honestly the only good part about moving home was that my wife got me tickets to 10 games the year I moved back. Though i do miss listening to the broadcast while “working”.
Never been into surfing
I’ve met a few hockey fans around, I actually ran into a Canucks fan at the shops once, I was wearing my Budaj jersey and he came up to me and we started talking. Having started playing ice hockey as a goalie this year it’s good cause there’s actually a fair few hockey fans around.

I don’t see how he gets sent back down. He has been strong on face offs, strong defensively…and set up the only two games he’s played in. My only complaint was that I couldn’t choose him in the SPG thingy
But
what about Arny, we can’t send him down. he’s the heart and soul, look how we play without him, it’s liek we know what were doing. We can’t have that.

Nah, I think Granato playing Hensiiick in key parts of the Minnesota game might have been a message to management that the young man is ready to stay here.
Yeah
Granato seems like he’s wanted Hensiiick to be in the team for a while, hopefully he can make it happen.

Yep, lots of passing around the boards, but nothing that creates a shot. The opposition defense is doing very little chasing because we aren’t trying to pass across the ice. When we finally shot one from the point it created a chance…Smyth just put the rebound wide.

Love that play
Empty net, and Wolski and Stastny just keep pinning the puck against the boards and killing more time. Awesome job.
Smyth wrap around Empty Net and he hits the damn post again….

We can’t afford his ups and downs. We need the reliable consistency of Tyler Arnason. Sure Hensick has had one assist each game, but what will happen next? what if he gets no points for an entire game? We can’t risk that. We must bring back a player that we can rely on to only get a point when the game is in the bag, right?
What if he actually plays for a full game. We cant have that sort of work ethic in our team. We need people who will stand around like Pylons in this side.

we CAN NOT have Hensick and Budaj being two of our best players. It is unheard of. What are they thinking? They could really hurt the feelings of all those players making more money than them….and that would be a disaster since everybody (including Raycroft!!!!!) makes more money than they do…I think.
Money$
Raycroft and Budaj make the same amount ($800k)
Hensick actually makes more than these Avs:
McCormick
McLeod

well, when i said “everybody” I should have said “almost everybody”…and I was talking cap number more than salary (which I consider to be more important in the grand scheme of things).
I was being mostly sarcastic above, but in all seriousness, I guess my point is: blaming the goaltending when the goaltenders are paid roughly the same as the “energy” guys is stupid (I know that you don’t blame them, AD blames him/them) . If salary is a reflection of the percieved talent and importance of the players from the managements perspective, then analysis of a losing streak has to begin with where the management places their priorities and work from there down. Based on where the Avs spend most of their money, clearly they expect more out of the D and O than out of the G. I think the first 3 games of the season could relatively fairly be blamed on Budaj. But the most recent losing streak? No.
The Avs would seem to be built around the theory that they will score plenty and stop shots from happening….when the defenseman that has yet to see a single shift (Tjarnqvist) has a higher cap number than the starting goaltender….then you aren’t really planning on winning games via amazing goaltending.
Sorry for the mini-rant. Not aimed at ANYBODY on this board. Just general frustration.
Agree
Just wanted to clarify.
I agree, the Avs have been (rightfully) expecting better offense and defense this season, and haven’t gotten it. This was the best defensive game of the season, bar none.

Watched the Minnesota Gophers Game before this one
and Stoa got a short handed goal. He is big, fast, and consistent (has had at least one point in every game this year). I can’t wait to see him in an Avs unipron.
Ack
I gotta jet, guys. Sorry for not hanging around like I normally do, but Saturday night duties call to me. Good win!
No, but he saw limited time after Sakic didn’t return to the ice early in the second. He only got 5:14 of ice.
Svatos got 6:07, as he saw little time as well.

I’m too lazy to read Dallas papers and blogs but is anyone calling for Turco’s head, he hasn’t played much better than Boods.

So, why is no one calling for Turco to be traded to the Avs? All the other goalies people were calling for in the offseason are faring no better than Boods and Washington keeps denying they have a goalie carousel. Hell, even Broduer is out so the Devils are tanked. This is not the year of the goalies for sure.

Defensive Pairings
Maybe it was just me, but the D pairings seem to have been shuffled a bit in this game. I couldn’t tell because at times it seemed like they were back to the pairings from every other game this season, but then I noticed Leo and Liles together frequently and also Salei and Clark together a fair bit.
In the continuing trend of my analysis/opinion proving woefully wrong: Jibblescribbits called for the Clark and Salei pairing in a post a few days ago and then I proceeded to question that based on Salei’s speed and Clark’s puck clearing. If they played regular shifts together this game, the shutout would tend to make me look like an idiot. again. some more. dammit.
I’ll take the win of course. But I’m sick of being the accidental anti-jinx.
What ever give us the wins….if it helps the Avs can prove you wrong all season long.
Take one for the team!

don’t worry. Maybe next game I’ll question Hejduk’s hands in close.
Actually, now that I think about it….I WILL question Smyth’s touch around the net.
You may ridicule me after he scores a hat trick.
Shot wide once, got robbed another time, and hit the post on an empty net…he must really suck.

Foote and Hannan got put together. Clark shifted with Salei and Liles at times. But, Foote and Hannan was relatively consistent. I thought they did well.
I like
I likwd these defensive pairings. With Liles and Leo playing ok in their own zone it makes sense to put Hannan and Foote together to have a shutdown pair, and Liles and Leopold for an offensive pair.
Clark and Salei actually look comfortable together

Sweet game. Boods with the shut out!!!! I haven’t caught up with the game thread but to me it looked like the game tonight was a battle of the goalies and Budaj prevailed.
Red Wings Suck
Neither team was really shooting much. It was more of a defensive battle with the Avs really hitting the Preds. Shots were only 26-20 (Preds). But both teams had some good scoring chances. Half the game was played shorthanded.

Still, Boods was solid and deserved this win. More net, less crossbar would have made this game a blow out.

SDTF sorry I wasn’t here to drink with ya.
Texacogirl, I don’t think we actually hit any crossbars. I think they were all posts. Not that I’m trying to split hairs…
I figured. More net less crossbar is a great motto. I try to follow it in my own games. Although the reality is more net, less two feet wide of the open net. think I can get a call up to switch with Smyth?
Well
we clearly hit the post at least twice tonight. Once, Lappy’s shot rode the redline to the post and Smyth for sure hit the post in addition to being robbed. Shots are going to go wide a lot more than hit the goalie or the net. I don’t play but it just seems to be a reality of hockey.
Red Wings Suck
She's right, though.
It’s the nature of the game. Trying to put that tiny piece of vulcanized rubber into the netting behind a padded monster who will eat your soul to stop the puck is a daunting task, so you’re bound to put it two feet wide now and then.
Just relax, and don’t grip the stick too tight, Smyth.

I kinda wanted him to stack it so Bilko would get silver, he was robbed the Cliff flip was so much better than Rebauds one handed nac underflip IMO but i wanted him to land it because it was so insane. I can’t believe it didn’t get a 100 score but considering they’ve underscored the 360 since X games 10 it shouldn’t surprise me, honestly theres only two people consistently doing 3’s, Nate and Bilko and it gets scored lower than a flip combination. Its redonkulous. have you seen the Nitro Circus videos they’re awesome. he does the stupidest stuff.

Hey, thats a good thing. Even I don’t drink every night. I limited it to one glass of The Balvenies 17 year old sherry oak… /homer voice, ummm, sherry oak…
I"m very worried. I drank way more than I usually do during a game, and we won. That is not a streak that I can afford to continue.

I actually never drink when I have things to do. I’ve had the worst luck ever with police and things, so I keep myself out of bad positions as often as possible. I only drink when I’m not working and have zero school obligations for the next 12 hours at least.
