Possible Help?
This story in the Toronto Sun mentions that the Flyers have a cap issues that is about to rear its ugly head. Of the aforementioned players (Mike Knuble, Scottie Upshall, Joffrey Lupul, and Randy Jones), should the Avs take a look at any of these guys, given the reoccuring injury theme of the current team? Since we don't have any 'elite' players in the system, is there somebody in Philly's system they can package with one of the above from the Flyers that will help down the road, and be worth giving up a pick or some of our depth in return? I'm assuming here that the Flyers want minor leaguers or picks and not salary coming the other way, so no Arnason for Knuble stuff here...
Any thoughts?

The Avs could use any of the four guys mentioned, so long as Philly is cool with offloading $ and doesn’t want picks in return.
A prospect throw in (or ten) couldn’t hurt, but I don’t put much value in those. Any team knows their system and players 99% better than anybody else, so the Avs winding up with somebody super awesome is highly unlikely. I don’t see any harm in getting every prospect they can at this stage, though.
I’m sticking by what I said in my blog; without a coaching change, the organization is not going to be able to right the ship this season. The Avs have been so bad (and so _(insert profane adjective )_ heartless) in so many games this season, that getting one or two good players isn’t going to change a whole lot. Ryan Smyth should stand next to Granato between shifts so that they can make ‘WTF guys?’ faces together.

Just as long as
Shattenkirk and Stoa are not part of any deal like some genius in the All Things Avs comments suggested for Maxim Afinogenov.

afinogenov might be an interesting acquisition, but as this very article points out, everyone knows he’s a one year rental as he wants to play in russia next year. so I don’t think the Avs should go after him.
as for the philly trades, the only one I would want to see is Upshall — none of those other players bring the speed and/or skating ability the avs so desperately lack.

No Max, no way.
For the reason’s I stated on Dater’s blog:
"He is a turnover machine. He plays as much defense as Arnason.
Yes, he’s fast. Yes, he skates hard, but for every play he makes, he makes 3 turnovers resulting in odd man rushes the other way.
He is also one of those guys who gets a million chances and rarely finishes. The dude has no shot and cannot bury chances that goal scores do.
The change of scenery is a sorry excuse for Max not being able to finish or play disciplined hockey. It doesn’t get much more up-tempo than the Buffalo Sabres since the lockout. If he can’t put up respectable numbers there, how is he going to do it here?
He is Arnason Part Deux."
The Avalanche are not a place that struggling forwards should go to resurrect their careers.

Will consider all under-qualified coaches, so long as they’ve played for us before.

while i know afinogenov is a limited player, we really need some speed — we don’t generate chances at all let alone miss on them! hensick’s speed has been absolutely a huge asset, I think max might add something too. but again, if it’s only for this year and the price isn’t incredibly low, it’s a waste.

There will be some speed coming from our top prospects in the future though.

as I said, i consider Hensick already a part of the big club and his speed has been really welcome, but we need more. While those guys aren’t slow by any means, I don’t see any true burners this side of Cumiskey. Where’s the speedy wingers?!

Hasn't ever
really been our style has it? We haven’t really had lots speedy wingers in the team’s history that I can remember. Not saying that’s the way to go, just that this team has survived a long time without quick feet. That being said, I love watching Cumiskey skate. He’s definitely in the right profession.

We either need fast wingers to blow by the other team, Or powerful wingers like Foppa was to go straight through the other team. We don’t really seem to have either.

Nope We have guys like Sanjaya Arnason who falls over when the opposition looks at him menacingly.

What’s funny is that Philly offered me that trade (Raycroft for Niitymaki straight up) in NHL2K9. Of course I took it…

Oddly enough, I’d take that deal. I actually preferred Jose and his Paris’ lovin’, hairgrowth usin’ face to Rayzor.
