Avs-Wings: Foregone Conclusion

At least according to Dater. I'd tend to agree with him too, except the lowly Tampa Bay Lightning beat Montreal the other night, and the Stars managed to beat the dreaded winged wheel Friday night. So maybe there is hope? Naah, Raycroft is starting....

But can’t we be more like jibbles’ blog and point out possible reasons the Avs are so much worse than the Deadwings?
I’ll start off with the obvious:
If we lose tonight it’s because Joe Sakic isn’t there to destroy the Wings
26 Card Jet
If we lose tonight it’s because the coaching staff gave up on the game before it even started. (though his numbers against the evil empire isn’t bad….
Colorado’s Andrew Raycroft is scheduled to start in his first appearance since Nov. 29. He is 2-1-0 with a 1.85 GAA in three career starts against Detroit.

Are those career stats against Detroit from his Calder Trophy winning season? Because I’ll try to be elegant and say he seems to be a different player now.
Glad
I’m glad to see I’m not the only optimistic Avs fan out there today.
I believe in Peter Budaj

The game will be tied when it starts, so that’s a plus.
Also… nope can’t think of anything else, sorry.

Budaj will be fresh and still a member of the team tomorrow….that’s a positive, right?

But if Budaj has to go in at the start of the second period to relieve Raycroft, Budaj won’t be very rested for tomorrow. I wonder if coaches ever tell the goaltender that he is going to be left in the entire game, no matter how many goals are scored against him. Not to add extra pressure to guy or anything. Heh heh.
I think that happened in Montreal once. against the Wings too, if I recall correctly…

We can only hope this works in our favor as well, right?

LOL!!!
Well, if we’re all thinking of the same game, we know what happened there.
I found Jibs’ post from the fanshots today to be relevant here and quite hilarious:
“We’re hoping he lets 7 goals in, Granato doesn’t take him out and he demands a trade to Montréal, like a reverse Patrick Roy curse or something.”
We don’t have to be humiliated in our own building yet. That’s a positive.

So if the Avs can manage 20+ shots, I know thats like me letting in 5 goals and not attempting to break my stick, we might be able to score some goals
