Game 66: Kings At Avalanche, Preview And Open Thread

Peter Forsberg will not be in the lineup tonight for the Avalanche, so there's really not that much to talk about.
The Avs got a serious personnel upgrade when Adam Foote and Ruslan Salei joined the defensive squad. They've won both games they've played since Foote's return, but not in regulation.
The Kings are the worst team in the entire NHL. The Avalanche should have two primary goals tonight: win in regulation and win big.
The game starts at 6:00 PM Mountain time, 8:00 PM Eastern. I have no idea if I'll be present for the game, but please, don't let that stop you from threading away.
ESPN preview.

I won't be here
Because I'll be at the game. I'm excited to see the atmosphere of the Can tonight. Even without Foppa, the return of Foote should make it pretty special.
End of 1st
double goose-eggs, although Theo did his level best to give the Kings a good, nay GREAT scoring chance in the final thirty seconds...
Foote looks good, and Selei has been steady other than his penalty. I'm not sure why he's on the left side of the PP as a lefty, but whatever. That's not the wierdest thing we've seen on the PP this year, that's for sure.
Also, Dan Cloutier makes me chuckle with his old-school combo-style mask...
RUSLAN! SALEI!
His first goal as an Av ties it at 1.

Smyth! Again!
2-1, Avs. Stastny and Foote with the assists.

RUSLAN! SALEI!
His first goal as an Av makes it 3-1, assists to Leopold and Svatos.
Svatos, naturally, is hurt on the play, courtesy of former Av/soulless traitor Jon Klemm.

Assist
At least you got one more assist out of him!

Injury curse continues...
I can't believe our crappy luck with injuries this season. Maybe Foppa should reconsider playing...
S names
If my last name started with S and I currently played with the Avs I would be headed to the court house to change my last name Monday morning.

He's going to the hospital
According to the Kings' radio guys, although they also said he was moving around.

My wife
said she saw him talking, and I saw him shake his gloves off and lift his right leg up so hopefully, the stretcher is just precautionary. He also lifted his head as they were trying to strap him to the headboard.
Man, that was a horrible hit...
Classless
Good news!
conscious and walking is a great sign.

ughh
I don't think I have felt so bad with the Avs ahead 3-1. Word is Svatos is a knee injury, hopefully not an ACL or something that will end his season. And I hope Smyth isn't too bad.
Welcome back Wolski and Hensick.
Blake stops fight
between Johnson and Lappy. Blake and Johnson both get penalties. Avs get to kill another kitten.
I think
Cloutier got the penalty that Johnson is serving for his little shove of lappy before Blake jumped in.
Apparently
There is no penalty for dropping your gloves but not even touching the other guy.
Could be Cloutier's
penalty, the radio guys didn't say anything but i'm assuming the tv coverage would be a little more descriptive.
Stupid Kings announcer complaining
Blake is just trying to be the peace maker, Blah Blah Blah.
Unfortunately another kitten had to die.
OMG!!
The Avs are NOT sitting on the lead?? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!!!
Let run it up.
Just keep scoring ...
I still want to see Lappy or Parker drop Johnson...Legally of course!
smyth update
announcers said he was walking between the 2nd and 3rd.

yea
Altitudes "3rd guy" mentioned he tried to get Smyth attention before he went to the hospital and kind of nodded with a "I can't believe this just fucking happened" look on his face. But it seemed like he was not as bad as it looked.
Kings goal
Blake scores of a deflection by Theo and drops in, Kings announcers blaming their desire to nail Johnson as leading to the sloppy playing that resulted in the goal.
Brunette with an empty netter
Hedjuk with the assist.

WOOOO
good dominating win to start of the home game stretch. This bud light ad they continually play on the Kings radio is actually pretty funny, making fun of uncoordinated sports announcers, how can that not be cool.
oh yeah
This was definatly a Pyrrhic Victory.
I guess we will be seeing Wolski and Hensick again. Maybe Jaroslav "MIA" Hlinka
i'm gonna
keep an eye on Altitudes post game show to see if there is any news on Smyth and Svatos.
Svatos first
He walked out of the arena without crutches. Good news for a knee injury.
Good to get the win
but at what cost? I'm not going to say that Johnson hit Smyth with intention to hurt him, but it did seem like he waited a few seconds before making the hit, maybe it was just the replay and slowing it down? I am also not going to say the Crow had anything to do with it. But I do have to question Crow's coaching, when some thing ugly happens every time we play his teams. Usually there is nothing too over the top, but it does get frustrating on nights like tonight. I am glad the Avs kept their composure, though I must admit I wanted to see Lappy drop Johnson, too bad Blake had to step in.
An another note, we are down two forwards in the game and Parker still gets only 3 shifts?
Hmm...
Great game to be at, until Smytty went down. For me at least, it kinda took the fun out of the night. Hopefully his and Svatos' injuries aren't anything too serious.
yep
definitely this was a bad night because of that. right as we get everyone healthy and foppa and footer and salei, now Smyth goes down. And Svatos too. This sucks.
