Svatos Out For The Season, Smyth Indefinitely

This is about how I feel right now...
This just in: Marek Svatos has a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season.
Ryan Smyth has the double whammy of a concussion and a shoulder separation, and while the team hasn't ruled out a return to the ice this season, he remains out indefinitely. If you're looking to make some money gambling, don't bet on seeing Smytty again this year.

Ooof!
Man, just when things are starting to look up, this team gets kicked square in the gut.
oh man
Wow, that's a bummer. Svats is our leading goal scorer, and dammit Smytty was just starting to play great. I can't believe this.....

Just Heard
Coach Q refer (The Fan) to Smyth's shoulder injury as "minor" and his concussion the injury they'll "focus on and then see how the shoulder feels". I love how they use the term "down the stretch", "hopefully he'll rejoin us DOWN THE STRETCH"..." I'm beginning to think the "Stretch" can mean anything from a few games from now, to a couple of season's from now.
Stretch
Maybe the '08-09 season is the stretch, kinda like how This is the year of the Rat.

Year of the Rat
Does that mean Detroit automatically wins the Cup, in honor of the Year of the Rat?
My only comment on Smyth is this. He hit his head pretty hard on the turnbuckle, but would the concussion have been as bad if he'd have had his helmet buckled so that it didn't pop off his head so easy?
Re: Year of the Rat
That's a great point. Smyth wears his helmet like Chris Pronger wears his: just barely.
I never understood why guys didn't strap themselves in tighter. Like Smyth discovered, if the momentum of a fall makes the helmet fall off in mid-air, there's nothing much between your brain and the ice.
Hopefully he learns a lesson from this---and gets better soon, of course.
