WCQ Game 6: Wild At Avalanche, Open Thread

The Avs need to put the Wild (and their fans) out of their misery tonight. Strike quick, strike hard, and be done with them. None of that lazy crap that dominated the first two periods of game 5, because the Wild aren't going to lose again if that's the way the Avs play.
Nothing else needs to be said. A game 7 back in St. Paul is not an option.
If you're at the game, help bring the house down. If you're not, help us get this thread going.
Let's go Avs!

GO AVS GO
I want a dominating victory. and I want a Jones goal, the guy deserves it.
Cup winning team put teams like this out of their misery. C'mon boys!
Tonights goal scorers
I'm looking for TWO from Smytty and one from Foppa.
Then Joe can take over in the second....

I just....
I just wanna win. Come on Avs, just one win! I have class on Monday, don't let it get to that, or else I'll have to miss the game (everytime I've missed class to watch a game, we lost). Go Avs!!!

RE: I just....
Don't miss lass then.
I don't care how we win or by how much. Avs just need to get it done tonight and be done with the Wild. 14 games is enough, no reason to add one more to the schedule. We need to come out tonight with that killer instinct that we had in game 4.

Nervous
I'm pretty nervous about the game tonight. I'm almost ready to skip watching it and just hope for the best.
I don't think my heart can take 60 more minutes of this insanity.
RE: Nervous
Completely agreed, I don't need another 5 yrs added onto my heart after the 20 added last game.
Avs need to score quick and often. But not as much as Game 4, Wild would definitely try to kill some guys if that happens.
Whooo!
Go Avs!
(Can't thing of anything to say right now, except that even though I think we'll win this series, I'd love to see us close it out tonight, and do it in style.)

On the Habs
I'm watching it, Bruins score, and not 20 secs later Habs scored.
I saw that goal coming a mile away, Habs guy was wide open.
Game
Bruins scored late on a fantastic shift from Marco Strum.
This was a fantastic game (3rd period at least)

Better not
You know, the team this series who scores 3 goals wins... so you-know-who can't let 4 in, that just asking for trouble.
Kessel
He's simply amazing to watch. It's mind-boggling that he was benched, but I guess it was the prefect move for him.

Should just be put in a room with highlights of his cough past greatness and never be forced on us again.

They've got that option on AFL games over here, you can choose what announcers you want or whether you want to listen to the crowd. They also have multiple camera angles you can view.
Re: Too bad
yeah its huge in Australia but nowhere else really, i know they're trying to get leagues started in Africa and North America.
How
Does that work? Is it online, or some sort of cable package?
by HawkEye19 on Apr 19, 2008 8:46 PM MDT up reply actions
Its on Foxtel
a cable supplier, it was originally an additional subscription on top of the foxtel package but now it's just covered by one of the sports channels.
Aussie
That's an Austrailian company right?
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 19, 2008 8:50 PM MDT up reply actions
Yeah
Its just the cable company that supplies Australia with channels like ESPN and other international stations, They show some of the VS NHL games. Australia(or atleast Western Australia where i live) only gets free to air tv which is local channels and Foxtel is the Australia wide supplier that shows non-local programs like the NHL and other sports and documentary's
Interesting
Would be interesting is the Premier League or one of the other Euro leagues would pick that up.

I think Sky has that for the EPL
I know they have FanZone, where you can listen to fans of the two teams comment on the game instead of the announcers. It's hilarious (when I can understand them). And they also let you change camera views, they track a specific player every 15 minutes and you can watch the player cam when you want to. Those are just 2 examples, I'm sure they have a lot more features. I think it's interactive from your remote, and I'm amazed that Monday Night Football hasn't come up with something like that yet. Sports coverage has gotten pretty half-assed here.
I was in France in 1998 and vividly remember that my uncle's satellite setup had that interactive component. Cell phone technology and interactive TV sports coverage - Europe is killing us in those areas!

Game Audio
You know, it would be cool if we could get the players mic'd up and actually hear what they're saying to each other. Maybe the NHL can show like, "adult" themed games like that on PPV or something (you don't want kids hearing the filth that comes from players' mouthes, lol).

So now that I have you all in a weakend state
Was Foote worth the 1st rounder?
The backend was so comfortable clearing the zone tonight across all three pairings.
Jones is going to break through again in the playoffs, he's a wrecking ball with hands.
Foote was a wall
Foote was a wall tonight and all series long. His experience and leadership has made a huge difference.
I was always ok with the first rounder and I wouldn't put it past Giguere to find a way to get a first-round pick in the draft.

I say yes

by andrew @ Mile High Hockey on Apr 19, 2008 10:41 PM MDT up reply actions
You know
I was one of the most vocal proponents against that first-rounder (seriously, I was all kinds of up in arms about. Check the trade deadline thread), and I never, ever, ever figured he would have such an impact on the defense as a whole. I expected him, individually, to provide leadership/toughness/blahblahblah all those things he's always given us, but to see the defense shape up as a unit after he (and I'm not forgetting Salei, either. Dude's been a monster) arrived was a fantastic surprise for me.
So to actually answer the question, sure I'll live with it. But was the extra pick for possibly re-signing him really worth it? I still dunno about that...
by SlamDunkTheFunk on Apr 19, 2008 10:46 PM MDT up reply actions
Absolutely!
Come on people, it's Footer! Footer wouldn't let us down! Neither would Foppa. I must say that the worst team in the whole NHL for Forsberg to play against is the Wild, Burns is a beast and he stuck on Foppa the whole series. Thankfully that opened up our secondary scoring, so even with Forsberg off the scoresheet, he helped win games. Next series, Forsberg should be better, that one move towards the end was vintage Foppa. And Foote just calmed a lot of people down on out D. He's badass. Salei can't be overlooked either, he played great.

I just have to point one thing out.
In the last 5 minutes of this game, the Pepsi center was louder than the Xcel Energy center ever got. At least that's what it seemed like. Of course, it was pretty damn quiet the 1st two periods, I was embarassed to see Avs fans that quiet and I was yelling at the TV to try to make them yell too lol. However, the third period was the loudest in years and no one sat down and everyone was cheering for the last 5 minutes of that game and that was just awesome, I haven't seened the Can that loud in a really, reeeeally long time.
