The Top 19 Continued: Three More Suggested Lists
Last week I decided to create the definitive list of the best Avalanche players of all time. Not the best players in general to wear the Burgundy and Blue, but the players who most contributed to the success of the team, whether they played well for other teams at some point or not.
I got a ton of great lists from the valiant members of Mile High Hockey, but I also wanted to get the perspectives of the big dogs in the Denver sports media, too. I sent emails to Rick Sadowski of the Rocky Mountain News and both Adrian Dater and Terry Frei of the Denver Post.
All three responded with lists of their own, because they are wonderful human beings and champions of sports journalism.
Their rankings are listed after the jump.
Dater:
Sakic
Roy
Forsberg
Foote
Hejduk
Blake
Bourque
Deadmarsh
Kamensky
Lemieux
Drury
Tanguay
Ozolinsh
Stastny
Keane
Yelle
Krupp
Klemm
Brunette
Pretty similar to everyone's lists so far, with the usual suspects included.
Frei:
I'm sure I'm forgetting someone:

Sadowski:
This was a tough one. Hope I didn't forget someone (probably did).
1-Joe Sakic
2-Patrick Roy
3-Peter Forsberg
4-Milan Hejduk
5-Ray Bourque
6-Adam Foote
7-Rob Blake
8-Valeri Kamensky
9-Claude Lemieux
10-Chris Drury
11-Sandis Ozolinsh
12-Alex Tanguay
13-Adam Deadmarsh
14-Paul Stastny
15-Uwe Krupp
16-John-Michael Liles
17-Andrew Brunette
18-Sylvain Lefebvre
19-Mike Ricci
He's the first to include Lefebvre.
With a ton of great lists to go off of, I'm now going to start compiling the definitive, final, unarguable list of the Top 19 Avalanche Players Of All Time. I'll start posting profiles of the hallowed few hopefully by the end of this week, starting with number 19 and working up to number 1.
Feel free to offer more suggestions!

Inexact science
Well, I’m going to average out the responses, of course, but I’m also going to use my own superior judgment to make the final determination. If I think, just for example, that Paul Stastny’s average is lower than the spot he deserves, I’m going to err toward my own opinion. But for the most part, most of the lists are similar enough (and similar to my own opinion), that the averages will be pretty definitive.

That is cool that they all 3 replied and allowed you to publish. Thanks for doing this Joe. Fills the gap.
indeed, much good karma towards these 3 MSM guys for not being too high on themselves to mingle with us common folk.
Mostly right
I know Frei caveatted it by saying he forgot something, but both him and Sadowski left Yelle off the list. I am completely biased towards Yelle, but he won 2 cups and was the Avs top PKer on both teams…
Then again Maybe I’m just being argumentative (if the final list doesn’t have Yelle Joe and I are going to rumble)

Almost complete Joe...
But what does Sandy Clough think?

Oh, you see, I was only interested in the opinions of the fans and actual journalists. Sandy is neither…

I wonder how Clough would feel about the similarity of these lists. Seems like maybe we do know a thing or two about our team….or maybe the above three wrote their list in their basements in their underwear as well.

It’s quite obvious that we copied our lists off the serious journalists’. Regardless of the fact that they were posted after ours, it’s clear that we are incapable of arriving at accurate conclusions because we’re too busy drinking beers in the cheap seats or mooching off our mothers and refusing to dress appropriately. Duh.

Hey Joe, just a quick website question.
Ever since downloading the AMAZING Firefox 3 (DO IT, DO IT NOW!) They “z” button scroll through system of comments doesn’t seem to work anymore on the count of none of the comments being yellow.
It DOES say “x comments, y new” on the main screen, but I can’t scroll through them anymore.
This makes me a sad panda. I was used to being spoiled

That IS odd!
I do have a huge amounts of add-ons installed with firefox, so It could be a compatibility problem.
I also always delete all my cookies and Temp files.

Do me a favor, Tom. Send a note to bugreport at sbnation dot com and let them know you’re having a problem. It seems the trouble is relatively isolated, but you’re not alone.

I occasionally find the ‘z’ button not working, but I just refresh the page and it works fine.
Bring hockey back to Louisville!
It works now ?!
This is the strangest thing. It hasn’t worked for the entire day and all of a sudden it works again.
I’ll send an email if the problem returns, thank you for your help
