Avs re-sign Liles, Foote.
Well, finally some certainty. Liles gets a 4 year deal. Foote gets a 2 year deal. I'm happy about this. Our defense would be slower than those Comcast turtles if Liles left. And could perhaps re-signing Foote make Sakic want to come back more?

YES!
I’m stoked to see both of ‘em back. What do you guys think of the contracts? 4 mil a year for Liles, and 3 for Foote?

I think Liles’ contract is fair. Look at some of the other guys who are making $4M, you have good guys like Zubov and Whitney, but you also have some not-so-good guys like Aucoin or Brewer. So I think it’s a pretty fair deal. Foote’s deal is fair too. I mean, he’ll be making less than Salei and as much as guys like Kuba and Mara. It’s not bad. I don’t think we got a steal with these deals, but I don’t think we overpaid either.

Seeing as how Foote’s contract last year was over 4 mil, I like to think that he took a pay cut to stay with us, but maybe that’s just what he’s worth now.

Both guys probably took a pay cut compared to what they might have been able to pick up in the FA scramble.
Be good to have Footer back for a couple more years.

Sauer or Finger
I doubt they are keeping both (maybe not either) which one do you think they’ll resign tomorrow (today in some areas)
I’m surprised Foote re-upped for so low… it’s obviously where he wanted to be. Liles contract seems very fair

I believe they’ll go for Finger. Just because of the salary Cap era and the idea he might be a bit cheaper.
I also think Foote took a pay-cut, proving his loyalty to this team.
I didn’t expect Liles to sign a 4-year extension, as I believe his FA value will keep on rising for at least a considerable time. But when you see the way he plays in a contract year, it’s probably best to sign like he did.

Liles signing for four years isn’t that suprising since he’ll only be around 30years old when this one finishes( i think) so he still has a few more contracts left to sign. I’m a little surprised Foote signed for 2 though, i thought he would have done what Sakic did and start signing 1 year contracts since he’s almost 40(i think) but i’d say this would be his last contract.

I think the fact that both of these contracts are probably below market value for both players suggests that we haven’t seen the last of Joe Sakic…
But I could be wrong.

Either you are right, or they are trying to pile up a bit of cash to go after a big FA to replace Sakic. I am hoping for Sakic.

Its always possible they will keep neither. The Avs have a potential starting six. Hannan-Liles, Clark-Foote, Salei-Leopold. Although Leopold should only count for half a player since I have a better shot at winning the lottery, despite never buying a ticket, than Leopold playing 82 games.

Remember Foote’s first game back? Wasn’t it in Calgary when he came to the bench near the end of the first period. Remember him sitting next to Liles on the bench, and at first there was this “wtf?” moment followed by about the biggest smile you had seen on Liles’ face all season when he realized who was next to him? To me, that moment completely turned around JML’s season for the Avs. And maybe his career with the Avs. I think it is very significant that they both signed on the same day.

Yep, I’m a geek. I had to find a link on youtube. He sits between Cumiskey and Liles.

aw man, that shot was so much better in HD—you could see Cumiskey’s eyes get huge, and Liles do his double take. good times though, one of the best moments from last season.

Thanks…I hadn’t seen that yet either…
I was at the in-laws and had to listen to the game on NHL.com instead of watching it.
