Wrong Team Wins Stanley Cup
There has to be some kind of mistake here. Gary Bettman, commissioner of the NHL, rigged the entire hockey season just so the Pittsburgh Penguins---his favorite team---would win the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately, they lost in game 6 and some other team got to take home the trophy.
How on Earth are we supposed to have a conspiracy if the wrong team wins?
I'm not going to talk much more about this. Detroit winning the Cup is the finishing touch on a season I'm glad is over. The quicker we can all put 2007-08 behind us, the better.
My advice to you: stay clear of Red Wings blogs and/or fans for a while. They're going to be pretty intolerable for some time.
Pens in 9.

FYI
All hockey fans should also avoid Kukla’s Korner for a while. It’s a great source of hockey news (with a sometimes Detroit bent) but the sheer volume of self-fellating crap already up over there is…
blugh.
I have to admit I’m pretty jealous. I’ve always wanted to have the ability to self-fellate.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
I’m sure there is a blog/website out there somewhere that will teach you in a few easy steps. Probably involves yoga and minty toothpaste thoough…
Enjoy

What a game last night! It took a few hours for it to sink in that we actually won because the end of that game was so intense. All credit to the Penguins for not giving up even down to the last second.
Not trying to be intolerable, just celebratory. Wow.
You don't have to
try to be intolerable.

I can find ONE positive in all this. Now that the finals are over, we’re actually gonna see some stuff happen with re-signing, etc. right? Of course, I coulda waited a few more days.
Detroit team photo with the cup
Ok, the traditional cup picture.
Since when does the wifey get in the photo? Am I just bitter (yes I am), but I can’t recall ever having seen that before. Kids, yes. The woman in the business suite? No.
Wings
certainly have the market cornered on ugly Swedes. Add them to monkey face Draper, and you pretty much have the ugliest team in NHL history. So there.

If it makes you feel any better Bob, Draper lead the league in boarding penalties this year. That’s what we call delicious irony.
I'm not at all surprised
Draper is a very dirty little player, no doubt. One of the dirtiest little schmucks in the league. I remember one of those boards was against JML in the Can this year during the same game that Lappy crushed Lidstrom with a clean check. I yelled something to the effect that isn’t it funny how the poster boy for boarding does something like that.
I was listening to a St. Louis radio broadcast of a RW-Blues game a few years ago and the St. Louis broadcaster said something like “that Draper sure is a dirty little player.”
Oh well, fun to vent after the hated winged wheel wins another cup. Call it therapy I guess.

I know
I just hate it when the media tries to humanize the Wings. Frei is a huge winged wheel butt kisser in this regard.

Draper Boarding Penalties Stat?
Dario,
Not that I am doubting you for one second, because I know Draper is a very dirty player, but where did you find the stat breakdown that allowed you to see that he led the league in boarding penalties this season? One, I’d like to check it out. Two, I’d like to use it as ammo in friendly discussions with RW fan revisionist historians when talking about the hated rivalry between our teams.

Here you go.
I saw it at http://forechecker.blogspot.com/2008/04/2008-alternative-nhl-awards.html
Avalanche player of note is Hannan who tied for the league lead with 11 holding calls. He didn’t move his feet very well to start the season that’s for sure.
I think the real question is
Why was Howard dressed and in the team’s celebration and photo. He can’t possibly have played 40 games in the regualr season or one in the post season.
Christy Yamaguchi was in an on-ice Cup picture with her Carolina Hurricane scrub of a husband, but not the TEAM picture. That’s lame.

Indeed. And I can’t be the only one who thinks the words “Baron” and “Baroness” are underused.
Well, by everyone except this band.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
How about we agree to use Baron in somebody’s nickname next year? Any candidates? Baron von Guite? Baron Budaj? Baroness Bertuzzi?
Baron?
I was going to suggest one for Cody McLeod, but I don’t want to give a cool nickname to my least-favorite Av this side of Arny
Since no one one has ever found a suitable nickname for Joe Sakic, there’s “the Baron of Burnaby”
I’d be up for The Baron of the Broken nose: Ian Laperriere
But both of those are old vets, who are difficult to nickname this late in their careers, so let’s go for someone younger.
I do know that I think Dion Phaneuf should be called “The Duke of Douche.”

The title of Baron implies some form of nobility, so who is the most noble player on the Avs? Or at least the one who a title of nobility would be the most ironic?
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
Baron....
maybe work it into a name for SoS since he is part of a family of players…all but one of which have played for the Avs/Nordiques.

“Baron von Stastny” is pretty funny, but I think maybe “Baron von Wolski” would be even funnier.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
I’d like to hear Thomas’ thoughts on Lidstrom as a dispasionate captain that leads by example.
I KEEED Joe. No need to ban me….................yet. I’m feeling a bit punchy.
Ratings
NBC killed it again last night for the US TV ratings. No market data for Denver yet but I suspect we are in the top 5 still.
http://sportsmediawatch.blogspot.com/2008/06/cup-runneth-over.html
Just for comparisons, here are the NBA ratings for the playoffs…
http://sportsmediawatch.blogspot.com/2008/06/celticslakers-numbers-game.html
A 4.4 rating is huge when you look at how the NBA is doing and their add revenues they recieve. Now no NHL game has drawn a 5.7 like the game 7 of Cavs vs. Celts but it’s still better than losing to championship poker or something like that.
4.4 rating should be enough to get back with NBC again next year. But I have a feeling that NBC will keep a flex schedule with hockey and basketball and schedule according to what teams are involved instead of just picking the sport.

WAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOO!
(you already have me stereotyped….might as well try to live up to it, right?)
(seeya next season, I’ll definitely check in from time to time….)
And in the other hand is a firearm of some sort, or a foreclosure notice. Or a body bag.
You get the idea.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
I’ll hold out the crack pipes. That really reels them in.

Back to your original post, Joe
My advice to you: stay clear of Red Wings blogs and/or fans for a while. They’re going to be pretty intolerable for some time.
And this will be different from any other time in what way?
Hopefully they've jinxed themselves
Some players dented the cup during a celebration…not a bad dent, but still…

Let there be no doubt
That is the harbinger of doom. The 40 year drought will seem like a Hawaiian vacation after that. The Wammy is greatly displeased.
