Your Middle Of The Week Thread
I'm still "on vacation," for whatever it's worth.
The Avs have now officially signed Cody McCormick and Brian Willsie to one-year contracts for...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Sorry, fell asleep.
Thank god The Dark Knight is coming out soon because this summer is so boring I've been reduced to attending the AAA All-Star Game tonight for some excitement. Can't the Avs sign Ryan Smyth and Scott Hannan again so we can all get worked up (even if it's for no reason)?
Talk about hockey or whatever.

I saw someone on HF speculate that Willsie is going to be the LEM captain. the only other explanation I can think of is that they’re done with Svatos and think Jones is ready for top 6 play, so there’s a trade in the works.
both would make sense to me, but I think the former is more likely. I still think a Svatos + Leopold package could land some excellent talent in return.
More fuel to the Silent Stan is being cheap theory, Nugs dump Camby to the Clip joint for essentially nothing. Pure salary dump. I wonder wtf is going on at Kroenke central? Is he going to need to rent out his 12,000 square foot condo that was appended to the Pepsi Center a few years ago?

Dark Knight
You know that movie has been so uber-hyped that there is no way it can meet expectations.
Regardless I’m seeing the movie Friday night at 11:00pm thanks to my friend that is the biggest Batman fan, ever.
InYoFace Hasek! InYoFace
I disagree. I think, if there’s any movie ever that can actually live up to the hype, it’s this one.
I will also be seeing it on IMAX during opening weekend. I’m a fanboy.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
Maybe. I think the promoters did a good job of NOT increasing the hype from using Heath Ledger’s unfortunate passing. They haven’t ignored what happened but at the same time didn’t use it as a marketing tool.
I might be plesantly surprised though since I’m going in with low expectations. I tend not to get into things that hyped because they don’t deliver (usually).

Giddy
This is the first movie that has made me giddy in a while. I have been trying not to catch any spoilers, but every review I have read has said it’s phenomenal.

Same here. I have yet to hear or see anything negative about this movie. No movie is perfect, of course, but I had just about zero problems with Batman Begins and this looks even cooler.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
I had only one problem with Begins: Katie”Wet Blanket of Emotion” Holmes.
Maggie is a hotter upgrade and a MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH better actress, IMO.
Agree
Glyllanhal >>>> Holmes even if i can’t spell her name.

The promotors might not have used it as marketing but the media sure has. Over here in Perth, where ledger was born, every reviewer has made a huge deal about how good he was and how uinfortunate and sad every one is that he died, not me since i kinda laughed when i heard how he died but that’s just me. Not only that but our inempt, useless premier has jumped on the bandwagon naming some new Theatre centre after him even though he never performed on stage and alienating the community.
Misspell
Was the misspelling of “there” intentional. Because if so..well played.

Iron Man
Was extremely good, imo. But I don’t get out much.

It had a few holes in it, but overall it was very good.
I am actually surprised how little I have heard/seen about Dark Knight…I won’t be going to see it right away, but I will see it within a week or two.

That’s why I’m waiting a week or so on it – I hate opening weekend crowds. They stand up and applaud the screen! What’s up with THAT?
I'm sorry, Mr. Hossa, but I'm afraid we can't be friends anymore. Why? Because I hate you.
I must admit
I did that at the first Harry Potter. Not the other ones though. I imagine Mike will be applauding after tomorrow’s show. :-)
Admit it, Mike stood up and cheered at Sex & the City too.

I’ve only applauded the start of a movie twice in my life, I didn’t stand, just clapped and yelled….The two times were for the first Lord of the Rings movie and the 4th (or 1st in the relative series) Star Wars movie.

I have a feeling you weren’t clapping at the end of that Star Wars movie.

Jibblewife
HATES when people cheer/clap at movies:
If she wasn’t so shy I think she’d stand up and scream “They can’t hear you”. I used to hate it too, but seeing my wife that visibly frustrated by others is actually quite amusing. I will join in someday just to annoy her more.

What is it about being amused when your significant other is frustrated by other people? I take weird pleasure in that, too (sometimes, when she allows it, of course). Almost as if I’m thinking to myself “hah, they got her!” like we’re in some kind of weird battle to see who can keep their cool the longest when surrounded by knuckle-dragging morons.
Anyway, yeah, I hate it when people clap, too.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
For me
It’s because I’m usually the one annoying her, so it’s nice to see her upset without any possible way it could bite me in the ass (unless I laugh. I have to sit there and be silently amused)

I haven’t seen it yet, but definitely will before long. The last movie I saw was that dirty communist propaganda movie Wall-E (which was really good). Probably not the “best animated film of all time” like I actually read in a review somewhere, but pretty good.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
Iron Man + Incredible Hulk were both pretty stellar, with the nod to Iron Man. They set it up nice for a sequel, and they both have little clues to an Avengers movie, which is a good thing.
Movies
I have actually seen quite a few this summer, and not a bad one yet. Even Wanted, which i thought looked terrible and only saw because of a friend, was decent, and then upgraded because you get to see a naked backside of Jolie (
which isn’t really saying much if you’ve ever seen choice scenes from Original Sin. Unfortunately to see Jolie nude you have to put up with gratuitous Antonio Banderras nude shots too. )
Either way I’ve seen, Hancock, Wall-E, Wanted, Iron Man and Hellboy II this summer and haven’t had a complaint yet.

That boads well for the Mile High Blogger Meet & Be Disappointed Extravaganza that we’ve got planned!
Hey 1/29/09 is against Toronto. If we get disappointed from that game, ie. Avs lose, something is not right in the world.

Anybody work for a company or know somebody with access to a suite? That would cool.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
Xcel Energy has a permanent suite in the Can. My girlfriends dad just so happens to be president of the union. I can try, but I’ve only succeeded once. Plus the executives tend to only give games to union guys when they are trying to get something from them.

What are the odds that Leafs win that game and that Finger scores the game winner?

Bettman still blows
No Caps, with Ovie and Theo, in the Can this year. The schedule is better than the last few years, but still not quite there yet. Wtf was wrong with:
6 games against each division team, X 4 for 24 games
3 games against each team from the rest of the conference, alternating home advantage every other year between the other divisions, X 10 for 30 games
2 games, home and home, against every team from the other conference every damn year, X 15 for 30 games????
84 games total, get rid of 2 preseason games and don’t rape season ticket holders full price for the damn things anyway, and we’d be good. F Bettman.

hey, it’s not perfect, but it’s a hell of a lot better than it was. At least the Avs get to play the Caps at least once, and the divisional games are back to a more reasonable 6 games each.
Unfortunately I’ll only get to run the Doucherade photoshop masterpiece six times instead of eight. Well, Steve Ott is on there, so maybe I can run it during the Stars games, too. Is he still on the Stars? I’d have to care to know for sure.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
You could
You could always add Bertuzzi, and have Ott be a different flavor.

Kari Lehtonen here we come?
haaaaaay
no seriously though, this leaves the Avs in a predicament if Budaj doesn’t pan out.
Backstrom, Gerber, Biron, Thomas, Legace, Garon, Khabibulin, Conklin, LaBarbera, Niittymaki, Fernandez, and Lehtonen (most likely) is the list. Every goalie on that list has some monster question marks. Personally I’d say Biron, Lehtonen, and Backstrom should be the Avs targets. Anyone else?
I don’t know about Lehtonen. He seems inconsistent. He might be better with a decent defensive core in front of him though.
I just have to think of the Streak and Budaj installs some confidence. I think he will be okay.

Goalies
If our backup plan for Budaj is Kari Lehtonen I’m just gonna start Seppuku now and get it over with.
