Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Some guy named Sakic was on the radio today. And he said some stuff. Apparently it takes nearly four months to answer a yes or no question.

This is your official Joe Sakic Retirement Panic thread. Let's all share our worst possible scenarios.

Am I prepared to do what it takes to be successful for another year.

- Joe Sakic

You got to be kidding me, right? Our captain and god is LAZY???

Well, in his defense, he’s also old. If I’d had a wildly successful 20-year NHL career, I might consider taking it easy at some point.

Not that he should. No excuses, Super Joe! You’re playing until you’re 65.

Go Avs! Let's get some goals!

I can understand his position…after 17 years of competing in Track and Field, I understand what it takes to continue to compete. Not only was I usually training 4-5 hours each day, but add to that upwards of two hours with the trainers (an hour before and after practice) just trying to stay healthy. As you get older, the time spent with the trainers increases and will either cut into your training time or your time outside. And that is just the physical side…

But I also understand that you don’t walk away until you are absolutely sure you can no longer compete. Like Yzerman said, play if there is any doubt.

Let’s hope it stays that way.

Sakic

I read a quote by Yzerman somewhere that said that if you have ANY doubts about retiring, DON’T. if it is taking Sakic this long to decided, and i respect his decesion and process, i think he has wayyyyyy to many doubts to move on. hopefully he’ll see that and come back for another year.

Brett Favre should listen to Steve Yzerman. Nobody else should though, because I hate Steve Yzerman.

Sakic should listen and play another season; or more.

The comments in that article are befuddling. Most are the generic “Please come back, Joe!” stuff, but then there’s this ‘small market hockey’ shit at the end. WTF is wrong with humanity? How are we a small market team with guys like the Duke, SoS, The Mullets, and up and commers like Boots, Wolski, and Svatos? These aren’t the BJ’s or the effin’ Panthers….I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I hate people. That is all.

I noticed that too....

I’ve read a lot of doom and gloom around the Avalanche Blogosphere this offseason, and I can’t see that its as bad as everyone seems to think.

Sakic will be back.
Budaj will be an average goalie, and he’ll only get better.
And we still have a load of talent on the forward lines.

Smyth, Staz, Duke, Wolski, Svatos, Hensick. I mean, its not like the end of the world. And our defense will be one of the best units in the league.

I just dont understand how everyone can be so negative when we have a lot to look forward to, with and without Sakic.

It has some good things

I like rooting for a team that is being overlooked. Kind of makes them a dark horse.

My second latest post is a fart joke. That should counteract all that doom and gloom ;)

Don’t forget Foppa and Sundin

I doubt....

That both of them come to the team, and if they do, great.

But Foppa will only play half a year at most anyway, so it doesn’t really help.

by AaronHawn on Aug 12, 2008 9:28 AM MDT up reply actions

But half a season of Foppa will almost guarantee the Avs a playoff spot…

I wouldn’t go that far. Half a season of Foppa means he’s under contract for 41 games but only plays 20 of them. I’m just not convinced that Forsberg can carry the team like that. Last season’s brief stint was not sufficient.

There's no U in attitude... wait

You people don’t get it, do you? A bad attitude is most likely gonna jinx us. All we need to do is SAY the Avs are the best and they WILL BE the best. That’s about all the power you have as a fan.
So Foppa will play 82 games, Sakic will be working his ass off (lazy slut ;)) and Sundin will come over, just so he can get the cup one more time.

Who know, we might even trade Raycroft for Ovie and Budaj for Luongo.

I’d rather have Budaj over Luongo, but that’s just because i don’t like Roberto. If i was going to trade Budaj I’d trade for Miller, but that aint gonna happen.

by Savage33 on Aug 13, 2008 4:09 AM MDT up reply actions

Yeah, I’d prefer to have Miller over Luongo, too. Just seems like he has a better attitude—-a more “Avalanche” attitude if that makes any sense.

Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
