Crawford Throws Big Bertha Under the Bus
The star has a new story up regarding the ongoing civil lawsuit between the Steve Moore camp and the 'Nucks, Big Bertha, Crawford, etc.
According to Crawford:
"Just prior to the attack on Moore, Bertuzzi had been on a shift to kill a penalty, had missed the shift change and had remained on the ice for longer than the rest of his line," states Crawford's third-party defence.
"After being directed to get off the ice, Bertuzzi was on his way back to the bench when, suddenly and without warning, he turned around and skated back in the direction of Moore ... and attacked Moore. This was not done under any specific or general direction or encouragement from Crawford, was a direct disobedience of the instruction that Bertuzzi had been given from the bench to get off the ice, and was a violation of Bertuzzi's duties which Crawford could not be expected to have reasonably anticipated, let alone control."
All of that was in response to Bertuzzi's claim that he acted the way he did out of negligence on Crawford's part. Is anybody really surprised that this has turned into a case of finger-point by two of the biggest douchebags in the history of the sport?

Nope
Not surprised at all. CYA to the tenth degree. I hope they both get the shite sued out of ’em. Except then we might have to see bertuzzi try to play longer to make the money necessary to pay the bills. Seems like no ones too interested in crawford as coach though. He might have to get a real haircut and join the real world. Smirking bastard.
Drafty did some good investigative work on this over on ITCS. It seems the attack occurred well over a minute after the penalty expired. Boy Butuzzi was out there on the ice a LONG time wasn’t he? Then again can anyone really see Crow’s smirk and not believe he was happy about the attack?
Now and then we had the hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be PIRATES.

Not under the bus
For Crawford and Bertuzzi, I’d much rather throw them both in front of the bus. The huge bus. Moving at around 90 mph. With spikes on its front bumper. And I might even throw Brian Burke and Brad May in front of that sucker as well. They were also culpable for the incident, imo.

Its sad
That Crawford is linked to the Avs. He and Bertuzzi are scum. I hope Crawford never coaches again, and well Bertuzzi is in his last stop. After his poor year coming up in Calgary.

Bertuzzi’s last stop should have been Vancouver. It’s a crime he’s still allowed to play at all.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
Keep him out as long as Moore is out
I always thought that his penalty should be that he stays out as long as Moore is out. If Moore is never able to return to the game (as it seems is the case) then Bertuzzi shouldn’t be allowed to play either.
That should send a message to the Marty McSorly’s and Chris Simon’s of the NHL. Cheap shots and blatant attempts to injure should be huge penalty to the instigator.

I agree with that; I’ve always said in a deliberate attempt to injure that should be one of the possible considerations
I would not however put mcsorley in the same class as chris simon or todd betuzzi. Mcsorley was always a respected tough guy who played the game the right way, and brashear has never really been in that class (heavyweight, yes- classy, no way)

listen to the announcer during the first fight. I agree with him.
Its been said that mcsorley’s stick grazed over brashears shoulder pad on the way to his head, I really can’t tell. If he hit him in the head with intent to injure, throw the book at him. But there was a lot of stuff going on in that game (and others previous) that led up to that incident. Play like a punk and you are going to get treated like one- In a fast game like hockey bad stuff is going to happen, especially when the tempers flare. I personally believe that without the instigator rule it never would have gone this far (nor would the bertuzzi thing)
PS ross bernsteins book “the code” has some really good insight into this and other related incidents
Raises hand
I volunteer to drive that bus over all of them; May & Burke too. I remember seeing May smirking & lurking around Pepsi Center. Don’t mess with Nana’s kids.

I still can't get over that we signed May.
What an insult to Moore.

I wouldn’t want them dead, that’s a way too primitive way to handle these situations. They should stand trial in front of (how much this pains to say) US Law AND should be tried by the NHL, with as maximum punishment the disgraceful rejection of them from the NHL.
Although, If Moore would want them dead… Who am I to disagree?

Law
Lawyer Joe will have to pipe in, but since it happened in Vancouver pretty sure they have to be in a Canadian court.

And considering both Berth and Moore are Canadian citizens, and the fact that the civil suit is being held in Ontario (Toronto is the home base of the NHL), would lead me to believe that any criminal complaint would be heard in a Canadian court.
But unless there’s a very liberal statue of limitations up there, the time for criminal prosecution is long past.

I thought they tried and failed with the criminal stuff. I completely agree, though, that this guy should be tossed out of the NHL, and should have been tossed out then. He’s an embarrassment to the sport and the league.
Law
I thought Bertuzzi actually got a hefty fine and probation.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot.
He plead guilty as part of a plea bargain:
After telling a B.C. court on Wednesday he was guilty of assaulting on-ice opponent Steven Moore, NHL hockey star Todd Bertuzzi was given a conditional discharge and a year’s probation.
Bertuzzi was also ordered to perform 80 hours of community service as a result of pleading guilty to the charge of assault causing bodily harm.
And as a result of completing his service and probation, he no longer has any criminal record, per Canadian law. Stupid Canadians.
Good lookin’ out, Jibs.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
I'm sure Moore feels vindicated!
80 hours of community service? Wow, that almost makes up for costing a young player a career in the NHL…

Just an expression
I thought “throwing them under the bus” was just an expression. I couldn’t kill anyone but I wouldn’t mind giving them a swift kick in the balls.
