Around SBN: Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

This is ridiculous

The Hockey News has just published their NHL logo rankings and like everything to do with logo's it's completely screwed up. The top 10 is as follows

1. Chicago

2. Detroit

3. Montreal

4. Boston

5. St. Louis

6. Philadelphia

7. Minnesota

8. San Jose

9. Pittsburgh

10. Toronto

Star-divide

Meanwhile the Avs, widely regarded as one of the best looking logo's is down at 19. The reason,

Much like New Jersey, it’s fairly right-on-the-nose; it’s an Avalanche coming down an ‘A.’

Yes, it is. It's also a simple yet complex logo, on first look it is just an avalanche coming down an A, but if you look closer you'll notice the puck leading it and what appears to be the profile of a face in the snow at the bottom.

How this logo is worse than the Flyers i'll never know, It's a fucking P, how is that worthy of 6th best.

Don't even get me started on the Dead Wings, thats been beaten to death. The Blackhawks logo isn't that good either, neither is St Louis, or the Bruins.

If you're going to rank team logos on look then rank only on look, not how old it is or it's heritage or any other crap that doesn't matter.

Don't Forget
I’m not sure how this plays with our friends in Denver, but isn’t it time for a total uniform/logo revamp for the Colorado Avalanche? Take a look at the THN list and tell me that logo doesn’t look like a popular brand from 20 years ago you see on the supermarket shelves and wonder, “They still make that?”

Biggest load of crap I read all day.

I disagree

I disagree with most of what you said above Savage.

I think the Blues logo’s is one of the best in all of sports. The Bruins is pretty nice too (the Blackhawks sucks, in my opinion), and I have always liked Philly’s “P”.

Two underrated ones are the new Blue Jackets and the new Phoenix ones. I actually think both are pretty sharp.

Maybe my hatred of the Flyers is clouding my judgement but i’ve always hated their logo. The Bruins one is nice but i don’t think it’s 4th best based on look, it’s too plain. Just a B with some spokes around it. As for St. Louis i’ve never got into their logo, maybe because it reminds me of the Blues music genre, and i hate that stuff.

I always thought the center of the Philly logo looked like a fried egg. If you squint & look at the Phoenix & Detroit logos together, the outlines are the quite similar. Don’t like either. There is no right or wrong with lists like these because they’re so based on personal preference. Preference away, folks:

As far as Puck Daddy’s quote:

I’m not sure how this plays with our friends in Denver, but isn’t it time for a total uniform/logo revamp for the Colorado Avalanche? Take a look at the THN list and tell me that logo doesn’t look like a popular brand from 20 years ago you see on the supermarket shelves and wonder, "They still make that?"

There’s a reason the top six logos are the top six logos on that THN list: they haven’t been screwed with significantly in decades. They’re the same logos (excluding the Bruins’ new serif) they’ve been for years and years. And if you look at the bottom ten or so, you’ll notice almost all of them are very recently created or redesigned. They’re throwaway products of marketing firm focus groups.

So why would the Avalanche want to change their well-known and well-regarded logo that is barely more than a decade old? The longer they stick with it, the more strength it gains.

Just ask the Buffalo Sabres.

What he said.^^

My only beef with the top 10 is the Minny logo. I think it ALREADY looks dated and is kinda busy, IMO. Not top 10 material. I think the ‘Canes logo should be higher on the list, and the simple font of the Caps should have been given a little more consideration too. I hate the Ducks logo, so I agree it’s in last…

Canes aren’t gonna be high on the list for one reason: Orange V shirt.
It’s awfulness can still be felt today

That was the Canucks, unless you’re referring to a different Orange V shirt.

Toronto’s should be higher but you’re right about why the top logos are the best.

I’d prefer the Avs keep their logo (which I’ve always liked) constant rather than chop and change like seemingly every other team. You can’t build a history if you are always changing things.

it should indeed

i have no feelings about the leafs one way or another in general, but their logo is classic. i saw them below the wild and laughed out loud.

Yeah, definitely the biggest head-scratcher in the list. I wonder if Bruce Ciskie contributed to the rankings…
