Puck Daddy's Avalanche Preview
Puck Daddy has posted his preview of the Avalanche, and it's pretty good. There's still a little doom-and-gloom about Peter Budaj, but other than that I have no complaints. The comments, however, somehow degenerated into a Roy v. Vernon argument as if that infamous fight happened yesterday. I guess the rivalry still lives.

Rivalry
I think there’s always going to be strong feelings about that period, but as for the current teams the rivalry is dead. Just like Russia and the US now have an uneasy truce, but there’s always going to be some hatred from the Cold War years, and it will make tempers flare quickly.
So the emotions of the Blood Feud will probably never die down and Wings and Avs fans will always argue and have strong feelings over those years. I will never stop hating McCarty, and Wings fans will never stop hating Lemieux.
It’s going to get especially heated when they make assertions that Roy lost the Osgood fight.

I always thought it was weird that Detroit fans though Vernon had a clear win over Roy. Sure, Roy had a small cut over his eye, but count the number of good punches thrown and landed. Roy pummeled Vernon. So if you factor in that with the broken skin, I’d say it was a draw. Regardless, still a great fight no matter who won.
As for Osgood/Roy, that was no contest. Roy wiped the ice with him.

Puck Daddy’s seems to be mostly on track with the crew here.
in talking about Smyth and his “potential flop” last season, he took a swipe not only at the former coach, but at Arnason as well.
Granato will undoubtedly slot him with better offensive talent than Quenneville did — please, no more Tyler Arnason — which will help.

Yep. I found very little to argue with. Maybe that’s because Greg Dubs is a frequent reader! Trust the experts, Greg!

I’ve found anytime you mention the Avs, Dead Wings(or their real name if you’re a clown) or Roy it inevitibly leads to a Roy vs Vernon or Osgood argument.

Did you know that Martin Lapointe busted up Krupp’s knee during the very first Av regular season game ever played on a pretty questionable hit away from the puck? He started it all. And was an ahole as well.

Man, I’m so with you on that one. I hate Lapointe.

Try telling that to a Dead wing fan though. They look at you like you just told them Detroit isn’t the centre of the universe (also something that confuses them.) It’s the same with the Canucks fans who defend Buttuzzi (or is it douchetuzzi, we need clarification), they don’t accept Moore fighting Cooke earlier in the game as him taking his punishment. Any thing short of having his career ended wasn’t punishment enough apparently.

I wonder how low you have to get to rationalize the purposeful injuring of other players. Kris Draper is a douche-and-a-half, but he didn’t deserve to have his faced rearranged by Claude Lemieux. And even if Lappy had meant to hurt him, Nick Lidstrom didn’t deserve to have his knee blown out in that big hit last season. I hate Draper and Lidstrom, but I don’t think anyone should purposely injure them. Rough ’em up a bit, but not injure them.
I just wish I could understand the psychopathic mentality that seems to grip so many hockey fans like that. Or sports fans in general.

I can’t understand the players that do something to purposely hurt another player. My cousin was one of two players that hit a kid in a HS football game. It was a legal hit, and the injury was accidental, but the guy they hit ended up being paralyzed as a result of the way they hit him. It tore my cousin up so much he didn’t play after that season. How anyone can do it on purpose, whether they mean for the injury to be sever or not, and live with themselves I’ll never understand.
