Game 37: Coyotes 3, Avalanche 1 (Quickie Recap)
I have no idea what's going on here, but it seems like a fun way to spend New Year's Eve

The Phoenix Coyotes stopped the Avalanche winning streak at 3, dropping the Avs 3-1. I didn't watch the game as I was out celebrating with my family. It's recorded, but I don't feel all that compelled to watch it.
From what I gather from the game:
TJ Hensick scored the only goal and Tony Granato finally followed my advice and moved him up with Smyth and Hejduk for part of the game. Granato even said some nice things about him afterwards, but also seemed to be leaning towards going back to Arnason in the next game.
It didn't seem like a very physical game - not a lot of hits for either team, and just 5 penalties overall (and all 4 goals were at even strength).
Brett Clark was on the ice for all 4 goals.
The Avs still can't win a faceoff to save their collective lives.
Next up is Columbus tomorrow. *Yawn*
Today, of course, is the Winter Classic game (featuring two coaches who defeated us in the playoffs last year). James Mirtle will have a live blog going if you're into that sort of thing. I may take part, if the opportunity presents itself. Either way, I'll be watching the game (my wife is going to make poutine and buffalo wings), mostly because it seems like the right thing to do.
Happy New Year, everyone!

You didn't miss anything
last night. The Avs were pretty much controlling things until midway in the 2nd when Tellqvist made a great save on a 2-on-1 and it was like the Avs decided he was unbeatable and quit trying for the rest of the night. Seriously, it wasn’t a momentum shift, it was like a light switch.

And as true to form, if you have struggled to score goals for a extended length of time (see Mueller – 24 games) you just need to play the Avs to get going again. Seriously though, Mueller’s was perfect on both shots…

Wow, maybe Dater is starting to come around on Budaj....
He actually gives Budaj a little credit….
Goalie Peter Budaj and only a handful of Avs seemed interested in putting forth a spirited effort in this one, as the Coyotes were easily the better team in all the critical areas.
The Avs were lucky to be up a goal after the first period as Budaj had to make some very tough saves in keeping Phoenix scoreless. Young Coyotes forward Peter Mueller was too much for him in the second, however. Mueller scored both Phoenix goals in the period, including a shot from deep in the left corner for the equalizer after Budaj lost his stick and seemed distracted without it.

I missed the game as well,
but I decided I’m about to ignore this game altogether and remain in the bliss of the 3 game winning streak and the fact we’re 2-0 vs. The Winged Wheel
