What an exciting game. Two teams, both meekly fighting for the last playoff spot in the West, both depleted by injuries and both relying on so-far-lucky goalies who could easily implode at any moment.
The bright side of all of this mediocrity? Wojtek Wolski, who has six points in his last three games since moving to the position of first line center for the Avalanche. His secret? He played center for years until joining the Avs, where the presence of Joe Sakic and Paul Stastny kept him relegated to left wing, a position he's obviously not really suited for. Now, with the top centers out with extended injuries, and Tyler Arnason not really an option (on any line, really), The Baron is now at home in the middle of the ice where he belongs. It's not hurting him much that his linemates are Ryan Smyth and Milan Hejduk, that's for sure.
Really, that's about all worth talking about. Adam Foote is still out, so he won't get to experience the hearty boos from the jaded (and tiny) crowd at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. I guess it's notable that Andrew Raycroft is getting his fourth straight start in goal, but I'm pretty much done talking about goalies this season. Just keep winning, Razor, and I'll love you forever.
ESPN preview.

Again, you go with the goalie that gives you “W’s.” Since neither of our goalies are high caliber, super winning, consistent goalies…you go with what you have. I am usually not a fan of the “hot hand method…” but right now, what do you have to lose? The 8th playoff spot?
They should play Cumisky for that same reason. Get the kid some experience, and give us a chance to watch his wheels. When he goes coast to coast, it is fun to watch. Why not? is Tjarnqvist our future?
GO AVS!!!

I should also mention that I never thought I would see the day when there was Columbus Blue Jacket trolls. I have seen them on other boards and in the “Denver Post” today. Thank you Adam Foote! Not only has your defense been mediocre, but you brought a new brand of annoyance, to my already troll-filled hockey life. :)
For some reason...
I really dislike Columbus. Maybe it’s the dumbass antics of Chimera, Tollefson and Westcott last year against the Avs. Or the incessant whining from the goalies about Ryan Smyth (as an added bonus, Hitchcock bitched when he was interviewed from the bench during the last game). Or the cannon. Or the homerist of the homer announcers (Jeff Rimer and Danny Gare). Or the crap about Foote. It’s no Detroit, but at least in my mind there’s a little rivalry kind of thing there.
In fact, I made an effort to record the Columbus feed tonight, just because I WANT to be angered by the Columbus Clowns. Somehow, I feel that will make the game more enjoyable to me.

Wow
I have the online Columbus feed and the announcer guy with the moustache has a really LOUD and annoying voice. Keep your volume low.

I’d like to say I’ve read allot of negative thought’s on this blog and wonder if any one had some more posative comment’s and insight’s to keep me interested? All this, this guy sucks that guy sucks is depressing.
I’ve got something that’s been on my mind for awhile, I’d like to hear some feed back on. Joe SaKic was injured in a snow blowing accident and that’s a non Hockey injury, does He get paid during his down time and rehab? My thought is the GM should ask Joe to retire and free up some cap money. Then hire Him back as a Coach of sorts so he can still put food on the table. Coach Joe Sakic sounds godd does’nt it? any feed back before the trade deadline?
GO AVALANCHE ! ! !

I spent nearly half of the preview talking about how awesome Wojtek Wolski is. Welcome aboard.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
well done, just catching up I just meant in general.

There is humor and positivity, but lots of sarcasm too. If nothing else, you must at least enjoy the awesome nicknames for the players!
I think you’re going to see people get really down on some weeks and really up on other nights, depending on whether the Avs win or lose. I’ve been thinking it’s sort of funny. The week right after the Avs beat the Wings, everyone was really happy. Last week, it was hilarious — people were seriously pissed and were talking about how the players never play a full game, how they were ready to burn down the practice arena, how they wanted to trade Svatos (yeah, that’s you, JonHaven ;-), etc. This week, most people are ecstatic and optimistic again, because the Avs won three in a row.
I just decided this season not to get so down with the team because there is so much serious hurt going on in the world and in NYC (where I live) with the horrible economy. I can’t afford to expend negative energy on entertainment, no matter how much I love the Avs. That also means I’m not going to ga-ga after a couple of wins either.
I try to be a realist
and sometimes that means that certain players "suck’ and that the team isn’t playing well. It’s not like I’m punching holes in doors when the Avs aren’t playing well and lose.

Positivity
Has been the major them around here for a week or so…sometimes it’s still hard to be positive about certain players, games, organizational move or lack there of. But even if it’s done with sarcasm, the tone has changed toward the positive.

THNX! Great post, and Great sentiment.
but times are changeing and so is the rest of the League The AV’s cant afford to take a wait and see approach and let the rest of the TEAM’s in our division pass us up. This TEAM needs to make some changes and soon. I cant listen to some of the fan’s talking about running off arnasen, or Tucker and then give Joe a free ticket. If Joe was a TEAM player, and I know he is. He would reevaluate what his goals are and maybe move into Coaching or the office. Look to the future, and make the right decision.
GO AVALANCHE! ! !

I disagree
There is no comparing Joe with Arnason or Tucker. Joe was a 100pt scorer two season ago (his last healthy season). Arnason and Tucker have done exactly what for this team?
Even last season Joe had 40pts in 44 games (just under a point per game). If he feels he can be healthy and wants to come back next season, I give him the benefit of the doubt.

Hmmpfff
You’re talking about a HOF’er barely two seasons removed from a 100 point season. He’s gonna go sometime but it should be on his own terms. End of story. I see your point, though.
Red Wings Suck
AGREED! On his term's
and I’m not compareing Joe to Arneson and Tucker I’m talking about three positions that need to be filled that’s all. Joe is an Icon just like Mike Shanahan was to The Broncos but times change and sometimes it’s hard to let go.
GO AVALANCHE! ! !
P.S. I like the sound of Coach Sakic…….
Tactics without Strategy is the noise you hear before Defeat!
I disagree completely
About Joe leaving on his terms. If he’s in form, healthy and playing well then yeah he can stay and decide when he wants to leave, But if he’s not putting up points and out of form then he needs to be told when to leave. one of the Australian cricket players quit yesterday, He was one of the best opening batsmen of the last few decades but in his last 10 or so games(The entire cricket summer) he averaged 11 runs with the bat, he used to average 50 odd. The selectors needed to have the balls to tell him his time is up instead of letting him decide. Eventually he quit because he knew he was unlikely to be selected and now the thing most people will think about is how he stayed too long instead of what a geat player he was. The same thing will happen to Joe if he doesn’t know when to quit.
I want him to stay as long as he thinks he can help AND he’s puttng up numbers, If he can’t do that then we should let one of the younger guys play in his spot.

With Joe
I don’t think you have to worry about him staying past his time. He’s already said if he can’t produce he won’t stay. He wants to be a first line guy or nothing. I have a feeling his play when/if he comes back this season will determine next season. If he has an effect on the team he might stay. If he doesn’t, he’ll retire…

Thats my point really
If he can produce for the next 50 years I’d love for him to stay, If he’s willing to play 3rd line minutes for 3rd line pay, he’d have to take a serious pay cut to justify him staying, then i’m happy with that. I just don’t think he should be allowed by either himself or the Avs to stay when he’s not producing and become a joke like Chelios, who at one time was probably great but it was so long ago no one remembers.

I'm interested in him as a coach
but I’m not sure how he’d do. He’s awfully soft spoken on the ice as a player, I’m not sure he’d be any different as a coach. The guys may play for him out of shear respect, but for how long. He might make a better assistant behind some one like Roy…you could have a good coach/bad coach effect.

I have the bloody Blue Jackets’ feed. Apparently the announcers believe that Columbus is the greatest team ever and Colorado will start the game down 7 goals. All scored by Filatov.
Can you not choose the feed?
I just received Gamecenter as a gift and I thought that was part of the deal. Oh well.

Geography wise, Columbus should not be in the western conference. Technically neither should Detroit.
And colorado
Should not be in the NW. Central would be way more appropriate.

No they shouldn't
but until two East teams move out West, you don’t have two teams in the West by geography.

Okay
They can’t have anything to yap about…at all. Ever. They’ve never made the even made the playoffs. How the hell can they honestly be taken even kind of seriously when the only thing they’ve ever “won” is a cozy spot in the Top 5 of the draft every year.

They also have the cover of an NHL video game, thats something which the Avs, to my knowledge, have never done with the exception of the NHL 2004 mess

nah, 2002 was Mario lemieux, 2001 was one of the stars, 2003 was Iginla, 2004 was Heatley/Sakic, 2005 was Naslund, 06 was Lecavilier, 07 was Ovechkin, 08 was Staal and 09 was Phadouche. This is off the top of my head though so some may be wrong.

I’d rather see Stastny on the cover than Forsberg now. Hopefully they’ll work on the goaltending and put another goalie on the cover. Preferebly Boods but that’ll never happen so probably Price, I like him.

I like to think of it as a difference
in reading right to left or left to right. I am not chinese (being completely honest with myself here) so I read it left to right. Or maybe its how you tilt it. I don’t know, except for that my mind is honestly in the gutter. Straight in to the gutter, in case you were wondering. :)
Anyway, nice dig, but I’m still going to snicker. Honestly….

Anyway
I’m positively going to sign off now, and go have a work session. But later on I’ll have a CoPo for ya tex. Sometime you guys will have to remind me of the shot menu I made. I was bored (REALLY bored) while on the GDT one night and looking through my shot book, and either assigned or invented shots for all the regular types around here. Its honestly prettu positively a good list. But its at home and the only ones I remember are bubblegum (duh) and Tazmanian Devil for the Savage, even tho he doesn’t drink.

No need to apologize
the MHH community loved it, I could tell by their replies that it was the single greatest thing to happen to the MHH community in along time, Up there with Forsberg and Sakic signing.

I saw this and wanted to point it out
because it seemed eerily familiar.
From the Blackhawks blog in a discussion about their goalies, one guy says this:
" I do have to admit though
That despite the numbers that have been dug up here, I still have more confidence in the Hawks chances when the Khabby is in net. I don’t know why that is, but I do."
Hmmmmmm…………….
I am Jack's unbridled optimism.
Sounds strangely familiar. Wierdly enough i just clicked the link to that exact post before scrolling down to this message.
stats can lie and I think thats whats happening to us and chicago, The one with more talent has worse stats for whatever eason than the slightly less talented one. I’m interested to see how much goals have been scored by the Avs when Boods is in net as opposed to Rayzor.
Right now I don’t have aproblem with rayzor being #1 if he can keep up this level of play, a little competition’s good for both of them.

that I don’t have a problem with Raycroft playing for now, but if he experiences a precipitous drop, there should be little hesitation in removing him.
