Jones out indefinitely
Awesome.
Also, Stewart is sick. McCormick has been activated though and should play against Toronto. Raycroft in net.

And the good news just keeps rolling in. Like Zetterberg’s long-term deal in Detroit for only a little over $6M in a cap hit, lower than SoS’s. Oh well, a seat upgrade next year is looking more and more probable. If I even choose to renew our tickets.

yeah, im surprised the zetterberg thing isn’t getting more discussion. the league needs to close this retirement loophole at the next CBA discussion — detroit is really paying over 7m a year to zetterberg with the assumption that he retires at 37-38ish and doesn’t take the last 2 years. and yet their cap hit is only 6m because of the wink wink nod nod bit at the end.
what’s it going to take before the leagure realizes they goofed this one up? a 100 year contract for, say, Marion Hossa next offseason? first 8 years pay 7m a year, 1m after that, for a cap hit of 1.48m? absolutely ridiculous that this is possible.

and so I’m not just complaining without a solution, it’s an easy fix: a player’s cap hit in a given year is the greater of his current year’s salary, or the average of the contract.
that would end any games teams are playing with long contracts.
