Let's settle this...
It's come up on a couple of blogs, including this one, that Darcy Tucker may be shaping up to be the worst signing in Avs' history. Let's see if we can make it official.

Disapointed
Patrice Brisbois is insulted you don’t have a spot for him in this poll.

Also
Darius Kasparitus and Brad May deserve an honorable mention.

Agree on May.
May was worse considering who he is and what he was a part of.

May
A huge slap in the face to Steve Moore and to real Av fans. Screw PL for that one.

May
The only thing saving May from this list was the fact that he actually did okay as a player on the second line for a while.
but I still hate that cock

I think Tucker makes May look like Sakic.

I think that Tucker makes Arnason look like Sakic.

Tucker makes Arnason look like Crotch Capers 3

There’s no question Tucker is the King of Doucheland, but Selanne is a Hall of Fame forward who put up Arnason numbers here. He couldn’t even play well enough to get off the 3rd line. F Teemu Selanne.

Selanne
I always give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I have a soft sport for him since he comes here and comments, and makes pretty good points, pretty often.

Seriously though
I do give Selanne a pass because by all accounts he was skating on 1/2 a leg through the entire season he was here, and he still tried to give it his all.

Tyler Arnason allegedly gives his all too, but they both suck in Avs’ jerseys, lol.
by JonHaven on Jan 6, 2009 10:59 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah
but Arnason hasn’t been hurt his entire stint here. He just sucks

HAHAHAHA
Oh Tucker, I knew that he was washed up and not just injured. What is this crazy tirade against Minnesota that he went on?

No mention of
Matt Barnaby? That guy was kind of a spaz.

Definitely Breeze-by. Might as well have signed a traffic cone for all the skating and puckhandling he did. Can’t believe he still has a job in the NHL. Same goes for Ossi Vaananen and Karlis ‘Scratch-king’ Skrastins (too easy?).

I hated Devries the most. All he did was get beat on goals. The announcers talked about him like he had offensive skills Sandis Ozolinsh. I see him play a ton now that he’s in the east and he still gets beat 7 or 8 times a game.

My vote has to go for Brad May
I don’t care how well he did. When you’re involved in an incident like that, and then that team brings you in, it’s management blatantly stabbing you in the back and giving you the finger while you lie there bleeding. For a team that’s been so concerned about image control and whatnot, that was an undefensible decision.
Honorable mentions are the obvious: Tucker, Chris Gratton, Breeze-by, and maybe even Tyler Arnason. .

May was awesome when the Ducks won the Cup. I don’t know where he learned to skate in such a short amount of time.

The more I think about it
Tucker may be the worst because never has the franchise so desperately needed a single singing to be worth a damn and he isn’t.
If that one signing had been something crazy, like for Bruno, the Avs would be a whole lot better off.
by JonHaven on Jan 6, 2009 2:50 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
by single singing, I mean of course that Darcy Tucker will not be on American Idol. Sure, he’s gay enough, he has the heart and the soul, he just doesn’t have any talent.
by JonHaven on Jan 6, 2009 2:51 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Tucker
Is a nonfactor than an explicitly bad signing. He’s neutral rather than an actual detriment to the team IMO. Yes, he actually fucked our only ability to come back two nights ago, but he was also clutch in comebacks twice this year. Labeling him the worst is pure hyperbole.
For the worst, you have to consider guys like Peter Worrel, Jim Cummins, Matthew Barnaby, and the aforementioned Brian Marchement. Not only did they actually have less skill and work ethic and Tucker, their douche-factors make Darcy look like a carebear.
by Selanne on Jan 7, 2009 9:09 AM MST reply actions 0 recs
You’re right that they are all Legends of Douche, but at least they were in a non-cap era. Darcy’s $2M salary hurts as much as his play right now.

My final picks
And after thinking about it for a little while; We gave up Chris Drury and Stephane Yelle to get Derrek Morris and Jeff Shantz. I think that moves the Morris and Shantz duo to the very top of this list, because not only were they both pretty useless here, but we gave up so much in order to get them.

And then
In the case of Morris, gave up so much to get rid of him.

This whole thread
makes me puke in my mouth a little. I’m thinking we need a “best signing of all time” to make up for it.
For the record I go with May. That bitch.
I blame it all on my goalie

Teemu Selanne
Not the worst, maybe, but the gap between what I thought he would be and what he turned out to be was perhaps the biggest of any players we’ve signed since I’ve been properly following hockey. I had no real expectation that Tucker, or most of the other guys in the comments, would be anything special (or they were before my time) – but I really thought Selanne would turn it on.
And I was so disappointed.

WORSTEST EVER?
Lacroix, signing the gm’s son? That didn’t work out too well, sabotaged the locker room and got Jones run out of town.
I can’t think that Selanne was the worst because when you think of the worst it’s someone who comes in and epicly sucks and doesn’t try. Paul Kariya comes to mind except that both he and selanne signed for under market value.
May was a big FU to the fans so he was probably the 2nd worst.
what do you think the Smyth signing will look like in hindsight?
by An Unmitigated Disaster on Jan 8, 2009 9:57 AM MST reply actions 0 recs
At least in Kariya’s defense, he did have a wrist injury for a good portion on the season.
Selanne couldn’t be drawn out of hibernation, he sleep walked through the season.

In Selanne’s defense, he was pretty banged up by all accounts. He had to have a full season off before he became the Selanne of old. And he’s still taking half a season to get in game shape these days…
