Well, here we are again. Just four games after playing the Predators (and winning 5-1), all the energy and spark that was still driving the Avs early last week is now long gone. They're once again putting in 20 minute efforts in 60 minute games. The Avs have lost their last three, having been outscored 11-2 in that span.
Who's to blame? Peter Budaj, of course. Who else but the goalie could you possibly blame when a team scores just two goals in three games? It has to be the goalie's fault because it's always the goalie's fault. Until Patrick Roy puts on the Burgundy and Blue and once again takes the ice at the Pepsi Center, to many Avs fans it will forever, no matter what, be the fault of the goalie.
For the rest of us, we know that a team once again depleted by injury, crippled by bad coaching and front office management, lacking in heart and spirit, can't possibly be good on a regular basis. It doesn't matter who's in goal. The team is junk from top to bottom right now. The fact that they're still at .500 (at least in record if not in that fascinating "points earned, points ceded" stat) is amazing to me. This team could just as easily be 10-28-1 as 19-19-1.
When your offense is led by Tyler Arnason and Darcy Tucker, and the goalie many fans want to take over as starter is Andrew Freaking Raycroft, you know you're in bad shape. Real bad shape.
That said, it's hockey and any team can beat any other team any night of the week. Well, except for Boston and San Jose, who actually can't be beaten. But everybody else is fair game. So the Avs could win tonight. I'm not even going to try and predict it.
Pekka Rinne will once again face the Avs for the Predators. The only thing I really care about in this game is how Colorado is going to convince Nashville to trade Shea Weber for Raycroft, Arnason and Tucker.
ESPN preview.

And actually, according to my “fascinating” APE stat, they are as close to 10-28-1 as they are to 19-19-1. Gotta love Bettman’s NHL. Rewarding mediocrity with false hope. Hey now, isn’t that also the story of Arnason’s career?

No mention of lines. I know Granato’s been extremely creative at trying different combinations, different positions, blah-blah-blah, so I think the 3rd line should be:
Tucker-Budaj-Svatos
Since Raycroft is in net, this is Boods’ opportunity to score on the ice. Besides I have been having a running bet in my head about who will score a goal first: Budaj or Arnason. Boods is the most conditioned of the players, he knows where the net is, he can see the puck, and he could give one lethal high sticking penalty, hopefully to TooToo. Besides, it’s high time he started earning that insanely high salary of his.

No kidding...
I of the school of thought that Budaj really needs to do more to earn his money. Why not let him skate at center? He will probably have a greate face-off percentage, especially if he uses a goalie stick.

Basically, I’m playing Mega Man 9 and trying to beat it as fast as possible. There’s a website out there dedicated to “Speed Runs” and I’m working on beating the current record for the 8 bosses in Mega Man 9. Other Speed Runs I’ve worked at are original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, and Mario 64.

Random Thought
When I was in Italy, I noticed the news always had a person on the screen signing. I thought to myself – could sign language be the universal language? That would be awesome. Turns out (at least some one told me) it’s not universal. I was bummed.

Pens/Trades
Speaking of the Penguins, they are dying for a winger that can score to play with Crosby. I wonder if we could dupe them into taking Svatos for Staal. Staal is going to be a FA, but he’d be worth the risk to try to sign long term imho.

as long as it only costs Svatos and maybe a late round pick it’d be worth it. But theres no reason to trade the farm for whats is essentially a rental right now.

He’s a center, can play defense, wins faceoffs, kills penalties, can score shorthanded. He’s not as good as Eric in Carolina, but better defensively. Solid 2nd line center.

He definitely showed a lack of class by his attack on McLean. McLean thinks Crosby might have him confused with someone else when he heard Crosby claimed that they talked about fighting in the first period of that game.

Saying anyone is the next Gretzky is clinically insane, Plus Gretz put 200 goals up in an era when the goalies couldn’t stop beachballs. Him in his prime this year wouldn’t score 100 goals with the skill of goalies now.

1-1. The baron gets the goal from the Duke and Smyth. Did we ever decide a royal name for him, like Kaiser or King.

Hey i'm here
It’s a good thing Raycroft is in net. If not the Avs might really be playing poorly.

A fair point.
If Budaj doesn’t get his daily allotment, he might actually start stopping pucks.

I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but holy hell can we all agree that the problem with the Avs is nnot the goaltending. Raycroft, Budaj, it doesn’t matter who’s in net when the Avs play like this.
ok dinnertime be back in a few (but will be lurking)
