Excluding Zetterberg: The Elephant in the Room
Actually a fairly decent piece by iwoc3po about the Bertuzzi incident, the bounty hunter once again being his teammate, and nobody in Detroit having the nads to touch the story. But some of the comments are sickening.

That’s why I don’t read that blog. Haven’t visited in months.
The Avs may (or may not) suck now, but they've still won a Cup more recently than 75% of the NHL.

I still go there
It’s a “know your enemy” sort of thing, I guess.

I just assume they’re the same enemy they’ve always been.

I don’t go there either, but I don’t go to a lot of sites really. But this story does make a good point.

agreed. I didn’t bother to read the comments, but he went from star power forward to marginal 2nd/3rd liner after that.
This team will make the playoffs and upset the Sharks in the first round...it's our turn.

Cause I hate that fucker. (oh, and because it’s sweet pic job too) It’s so appropriate he’s playing for the Red Wings now. It’s also appropriate that I think of the alternate sex act definition of the red wings every time I think of their name. No need to call them anything else in my book, even though I do occasionally.

I just looked it up in Urban dictionary. Thought it was probably something like that. You think Maltby ever earned Red Wing Commander status with Draper?

The whole team has probably gotten their “Wings” from Draper by now.

and thus
the term “Bertuzzi” has become synonomous with “poop” in my vocabulary. As in, “Man, I don’t feel so good. I think I need to go take a huge Bertuzzi.”

OK, I went and did it
I read more of the comments. Among them, possibly the single stupidest thing I’ve ever seen typed on the internets, from some sorry excuse for a human being going by the handle of rwbill:
Bertuzzi did not in any way shape or form intend to permanently or severely injure Moore, and had he landed a fraction of an inch differently on the ice the ONLY thing that EVERY SINGLE hockey fan would think about when they heard the name Bertuzzi would be "Great Fuching teammate. Always got your back."
Unfortunately Moore did fall just so, and it is that fraction of an inch for which everyone has vilified Bert, no one otherwise would have ever questioned his intent as malicious. In fact I wish he would play like more of a Bastard now, wishing he could get over it, but that is impossible when the media and fans went shallow mindless Rodney King on the guy. Never mind King tried eluding and thumbing the police for a long time before they finally caught up to him, the whore media just feeds those few seconds where King got the Pisss beat out of him. And so they treated Bertuzzi. Great for ratings no matter how easy, shallow, erroneous, malicious, gutless, cowardly and stupid that approach is. I expect nothing better from the media. Moore was a C-u-n-t and ChickenShit. Sorry that happened but you should have had just part of one ounce of character and faced the music that you wrote.
So, cowardly is not attacking someone from behind and ending their career, but actually denouncing such an act is cowardly? Wow. Just fricken wow.

Don’t forget that “eluding and thumbing” the police more than justifies five white cops beating the shit out of one drunk black guy instead of just cuffing him and putting him in the car. And even then that’s a terrible analogy because King initially fought with the cops—-Steve Moore never saw it coming.
I love the way this guy thinks. It’s just the media’s fault!

If I ever get involved in a fatal accident while driving, and god willing I never do, I am so using the “I never intended it to happen, If it was a fraction of an inch different everything would be fine” argument. It’s practically infallible, assuming it’s told to a 2day old turtle.

You know, if Steve Moore’s neck hadn’t broken under the weight of Bertuzzi’s huge body, Steve Moore would still be playing hockey. So it’s pretty much his own fault.

as far as facing the music, Moore did fight, but apparently that wasn’t enough for Bertuzzi

If people would just get more investors in my pyramid scheme they’d be making money. I see no way I should be blamed if they can’t find more investors.

I think it’s worth noting that the trend continues unabated: the only fans who think that what Bertuzzi did to Steve Moore wasn’t so bad are the fans of whatever team Bertuzzi’s currently on. Fans of the other 29 teams (minus maybe Vancouver) think he should be shot in public.
I have a feeling Calgary fans that recently made excuses for him have changed their tune now that he’s gone.
I’m pretty proud that Avalanche fans never stopped ridiculing and hating Brad May, even when he was on the team.

Most Canucks fans I’ve talked to, while not as adamant in condemning him, certainly don’t condone him and pretty much go “yeah what he did was despicable”. there’s a few idiots, egged on by dumbasses like Tony Gallagher of the Vancouver newspaper but for the most part Canucks fans have come to terms with how reprehensible it was.
