That’s how it’s pronounced correctly in Russian. To be honest though, I’ve noticed that there is a whole separate way of pronouncing Russian names in English. A lot of the times they’re pronounced with emphasis on the wrong syllable. Like, it’s Ko-val-CHUK in Russian, but Americans/Canadians always say KO-val-chuk. Or, it’s Ko-val-LEV in Russian, but non-Russians say KO-va-lev.

any way, really. when varlamov first started people were pronouncing it incorrectly when it was listed as “simeon” on the roster. he asked it to be spelled semyon after that.

What a stupid play. The ref was watching him the whole time so he was going to take a penility. Just because you can hit someone doesn’t mean you should. Increadibly stupid and very cheap. A very quick way to get 4-5 games off without pay.

Avs barely protect Anderson getting ran so yeah, I doubt it. Foote showed the young guys how to stick up for your teammates even if retaliation is a thin line to walk aka the Naslund penalty.

that does feel like something this young group has been lacking: a tough edge in dealing with scrums. i’m not advocating stupid penalties after the play, but they rely too much of koci picking a fight

Last year when we played the Kings the game after Foote was hurt; that’s the way it should be taken care of. I believe it was Lappy challenge the player that hit Foote, they fought, and it was over.

Darcy Tucker is seriously hurt, after being hit from behind into the glass by Carolina’s Tuomo Ruutu. No penalty on the play.
Tucker has been motionless on the ice for several minutes now but appears to be conscious. I have not seen him move his legs since going down. Let’s think good thoughts for him.
Update when I can…
*Update: Tucker was knocked out cold on the hit. But he regained consciousness and is now fully alert, the team says. He’s being taken to the hospital for more tests. That’s all I have for now.

Avs barely. I thought the Broncos would be better than what most people predicted (3 to 5 wins) but I didn’t think they would be this good. I thought 9-7 but that feels low now.
Avs were ranked dead last in the west. To be in 1st so far for several weeks. I think they are the bigger surprise.

That was kind of an ugly game, but the points are nice. And that 2nd Stastny goal was beautiful.
Also, I’m not the world’s biggest Darcy Tucker fan, but hopefully he’s okay, that looked really bad when it happened.

Yeah, I don’t mean to be like “oh hey, it’s just a concussion”, concussions are terrible things and we still don’t really understand all the effects they can have on the human brain.
my students enjoyed the effect it had on my brain after i got one: i kept forgetting i assigned homework and planned tests. they easily convinced me that i had promised them a movie on friday for behaving so well. and on and on it went. you would have thought i’d start writing stuff down, you know, to help me keep track. but no, they had me on that one too…erasing the board and taking my notes. little bastards. it lasted about 3 months, too, to their delight.

Hey Y’all,
Greetings from a Caniac. I wanted to come over from Canes Country and read what y’all had to say about the Ruutu hit. Venom and hate over the hit is definitely warranted but I have to defend Rutuu’s history. InfamousM repeated many times Ru’ has a history of being a thug and that is far from the truth. Rutuu is a tough player who hustles and makes a lot of legal hits. Everyone is shocked that this happened tonight. He will feel awful about it and I know he’ll be in touch with Tucker as soon as he can to apologize. This is not like when Brooks Orpik of Pittsburgh broke the Canes’ Erik Coles’ neck. Brooks was known as a dirty player and he gives cheap shots often. I expect Rutuu to be suspended between 1-3 games based on the fact that Orpik was gone for 3 games after breaking Coles’ neck! Maybe Rutuu did something bad when he was in Chicago but since being with the Canes he’s been very clean. I think y’all have the brothers mixed up. But still, I hope Tucker is okay! I hated him when he played for the Laffs but I know how awful it can get watching what Cole went through. Good luck to him and y’all the rest of the season!

I knew he was the more talented of the brothers. He was burried on the depth chart when he was in chicago, he might have gotten 10 mintutes a night when they played the avs— I can’t say anything has happened since. I just thought it was incredibly stupid—he had to know what was going to happen, you can see in the replay the ref put his arm up almost before he made the hit—it was just that stupid. I"ll give him the benefit of the doubt here, but if he wanted to take 4-5 games off there are easer ways.

True that! Like I said, the only thing I will argue and defend is his history. The play tonight looked stupid to everyone. I can’t believe he did that! I’m sure he feels stupid, but that’s not the important thing. The important thing is hoping that Tucker is okay.

Dunno what to say to that. I can’t remember him ever being even called for a boarding. Is it possible Foote is confused on brothers? I mean, how often does he see Rutuu? Rutuu is a fan favorite in Carolina because his first game he ever played in a Canes jersey he laid a huge LEGAL glass rattler in his first shift, then got high sticked later in the game and his face was opened up. He received 37 stitches and played the next game with stitches from his forehead down his nose.
My point is that we watch Rutuu very closely and his hits generate cheers of RUUUUuuuuuu throughout the RBC. I’ve never seen anything like this out of him. If Foote says that’s the word on him then maybe I’ve missed something but I really think he’s confused on brothers. I’m sure I’ll learn more in the days to come. Someone in Raleigh will write about him.
Once again, I’ll only defend his history. Not defending this hit on Tucker.
But anyway, peace out y’all. If I beat this dead horse any more I’ll become a nuisance.
