He was a UFA. Former backup in Florida. He played well there in relief but I don’t think any of us thought he would play this well.
Hopefully #9 is not ten less than #19

La Folie, on the other hand, as well as all other sour beers, I just don’t get. Brewers spent countless time and effort eliminating these off flavors to make a better product and now some people are putting them back in on purpose? To each their own I guess

its not a beer you sit down and drink a couple giant glasses of. you drink it like a wine, and in much smaller amounts like that. and, much like wines, it pairs fantastically with certain fancy cheeses.
I’m a baby cheese-lover, but thats one of my favorite pairings. Also at the top of the list: Brillat Savarin Brie + dried cranberries + a good pinor noir. And, a good roquefort + a good ruby port.
dammit im hungry now!
its not a beer you sit down and drink a couple giant glasses of. you drink it like a wine
Yeah, I know, and I don’t like sour wine either.
I’m all for sippin beers as well as session beers, and I know quite a lot about pairings, but none of that makes me like sour beer. I can think of all kinds of beer pairings, from Bud with pizza to an imperial chocolate stout with some quality dark chocolate. Personally I think the former is a good pairing, but I don’t like Bud, so I’d sub in something like coors extra gold. Hell, I even made a batch of homemade ice cream using a fruit beer once. Like I said, to each their own. My point being its all about personal taste, and while their are a good many people out there that like sour beer, there are far more people who don’t. I’m just one of the ones that doesn’t.
None of this is intended as a dig on New Belgium. I think they, and Tomme Arthur at Pizza Port/ Lost Abbey for example, make great beer. I just don’t like their sour ones.

by Guitarpick8120 on Oct 24, 2009 10:18 PM MDT up reply actions
Don’t go to Boston for Sam Adams. There’s plenty of other great brews out this way. Harpoon, Dogfish Head, Berkshire Brewing, Trinity…
It’s not Denver, but there’s still plenty of stuff which I’d call more craft/micro than Sammy Adams.

Sam Adams
Sam Adams is a really good beer for when there’s only Bud, Coors etc around. It’s a good beer that you can find nationally.
But CO has some better stuff, but I like SA a lot because it’s available in places like Eastern CO where other stuff isn’t available.

They’re totally different players. I’d take Dupuis in a heartbeat, though.
And yeah, the constant, constant arguing over there definitely gets old. Discussion is cool, but when you have to take a side to be part of it the entire thing turns into an ordeal instead of a hobby.

Would be pretty cool, but he’s had a couple of non-incredible games this week. Honestly, I think he needs a bit of rest. I don’t doubt his skill at all, but for a goalie who’s never played a full season in the NHL, and one who sees so many shots, it would be pretty good to not ride him like the Flames do Kipper. Gotta work in Budaj/Weiman on the b2b-s at least.

Pretty tough when you have set a franchise record for number of games started to start a season. Considering how long this franchise (Quebec/Colorado) has been around and some of the goalies that its had.

Probably not,,,he did give up 4 goals last night…but then again, the shear number of games he’s played, and the number of shots faced may put him up there.

I used to be diehard Avalanche
the lockout seriously killed it for me. Also Vancouver fans.
A lot of hockey fans are very unwelcoming, as a blanket statement, not meant to target anyone specifically.
If you’re not an o6 fan you might as well not be a hockey fan because the rest of the teams are new stupid gimmicks and shouldn’t exist

o6 fans are like that. Wings fans and such. Habs fans are bad too.
But Avs fans are a good bunch. We all tend to have a bit of a chip on our shoulder when others argue that our team shouldn’t even exist. Like we are Florida or something.
Hopefully #9 is not ten less than #19
habs fans are REALLY bad.

Complaining
You should have seen the complaining on the EZ live blog about the Coyotes “pushing” Osgood into the net in the Yotes-Ailes game the other night.
Never mind that 2 wings actually pushed Vrbata into Osgood into the net, causing the puck go into the net (and that the call was blatantly obvious. Vrbata was standing still until 2 wings pushed him, yet the crew at EZ were bitching like their tampons were made of sandpaper) they bitched and complained that it was a penalty.

It probably was a penalty, but more like a cross check to Yelle from one of those two winged douches.

First, I had a monster of a game, kicking ass and not bothering with names. My 99.9% women’s team went up against a 100% male douchebag team and although we lost, I got in a whole bunch of illegal checks and slashes. i really hate that effing team.
Then, I came home to lots of beer (yay, beer) and the wonderous experience of the Wings sucking it AGAIN!!
The Ducks got SMOKED tonight.
Now, I’m rubbing our win into the face of this die hard Wingnut I know…ahhh. Life is good. (Even tho I did take a hard ass slap shot into the inner thigh. Radar will have to be gentle tonight.)

Lol, we were actually talking about that in the locker room after the game. The girls were saying they pull the Michael Jackson move and put their hand down to block the shot. I thought, “Ef that. I’m getting a cup.” Thus, next week, I shall look like Michael Jackson…chicks’ cups are pretty small.

By the way
I was able to taunt a batch of weeds group of a dozen Les Ailes fans into silence tonight, all by myself. No seriously, I didn’t even have to taunt them a second time. (TJ Galiardi, Chris Stewart, Stastny and Anderson may have helped some as well).
But I’m serious, Jibblewife told me to stop. I thought at first is was because she was embarrassed, but she later confessed because “You beat them . There was nothing left to say. What the hell could they say? Just be quiet, they were done, You won”
I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud

We were in the Shamrock Foods Suite with about 10 wings fans. Totally surrounded and feeling like we should be nice because we were guests and all. But we still managed to hold our own. And we managed to get them to Boo Bertuzzi with us. ;)

So
One good word for Les Ailes: Zetterberg is probably the best neutral zone backchecker I have seen. He stole quite a few pucks tonight.

Were the Detroilet Dead Things on fire (which they most certainly are NOT), I do not believe that I would deign to piss upon them so as to assuage their suffering and bring to an end their suffering.
Rather, I would sit back and warm myself by the heat of the Pyre of Douchery created by the contemporaneous combustion of the Wings and the Flamers.
Peace be upon you all.
Unless, of course, you are a Wings fan, in which case, I would wish that you rot in Hell. Presuming of course, that you can get the upgrade from Detroilet to Hell. Good Luck with that.

Yeah, the third period was pretty rough. The game really lacked flow. Even with Detroit on offense 60% of the game they weren’t exactly producing sterling scoring chances. Anderson did what he had to do and didn’t have to make a lot of GREAT saves.

The penalties are getting to the point where they should be a concern though – the Minnesota game and this one both got ridiculous.
were they legit or was it refs gone wild?
Hope got in my eyes
by Andrew Martin on Oct 25, 2009 12:29 AM MDT up reply actions
For the most part they were pretty legit – the tripping call on Stastny was iffy from where I was sitting. It looked like he did get the stick in a little bit, but the Detroit player dove. The high sticks were both pretty obvious, and the call on Hannan was at the other end of the ice so I didn’t see it that well.
‘cept they were about 75% thunk up bullshit in the mind’s eye of the blind mice/referees.
2009-2010 Colorado Avalanche - See what can happen if you like, you know, try and stuff?
That’s a good point, until today. Maybe bettman’s telling the ref’s to so see if this is “really” a good team by testing their patience with a bunch of shit calls. that whole EC roadtrip was full of BS, then Minny.
But I have to say, other than Hannan’s holding call, I didn’t see too much that wasn’t pretty flagrant. Maybe more just missed calls against Det-riot. Specifically, goalie interference. This is a league wide problem. Since the lock out and D-men not being able to jack people in the slot and crease area, goalies are suffering, and its going to bite the NHL in the ass when one of its marquee goalies gets hurt.

it may be just me but,
i think that the only differences between this year and last year are, much better coach and mr. anderson. taking 8 penalties and giving up damn near 50 shots to a sub .500 (damn, how good is that to type? heheheheh) detoilet dead wings team is very worrysome and praise be upon the noodly appendage that we have a goaltender that was peppered with all kinds of shots last year and he’s sorta used to a whole lot of work during games.
quite frankly they should have scored more than one if not for mr. anderson standing on his head and spitting out wooden nickels tonight.
At the game
I was shocked to see they were outshot so badly. I thought it was 30-24 or so… I didn’t realize it was 2-1

Except this team is scoring goals. The big difference right now between last season and this season, is that the shots seem to be of lower quality (from the outside and not so much in the crease) and the offense is scoring. Sure Anderson is making some very timely saves and some big saves. But when your team is scoring 3-5 goals a night, it makes the goalies job a little easier.
Last season the team couldn’t score, so Budaj/Raycroft would have had to pitch a shutout to win half their games.

Oh, I know this is a whole diff team than last year and worlds better at that. I’m simply looking at the shots per game. 50?? I mean, I know there were a lot of penalties and the shots were not necessarily prime angle, but Andy can’t keep this up and as much as I truly believe Boods is a good goalie, I am not sure he could handle that either. What needs to be done to make the team say, “Fuck, guys, we need to step up the D in our zone and clear the fracking puck?”

He also had to work in a dig on rebound control. However, I noted 5 or 6 times when the defense specifically bailed him out on juicy in the slot rebounds. This means there were probably more if I noticed 5-6. Can’t quit the budaj hate huh? Well, least you mentioned Stoner-croft too.
Good point though in that they cannot continue to expect Neo to bail them out of bad situations. Even Roy (bless his blocker) couldn’t always do that.

But, without a doubt, Anderson was the overall player of the game. He was spectacular. Really wondering why Holland didn’t go after him this offseason. The Avs got him for $1.5 million. I’m sure he could have worked something out. Would have made a great backup for Osgood for a year or two, and then, hopefully, a great #1. I’m not very confident with Howard.

On that note Sushi Katsu is some of the most creative and yummy sushi I have ever had and it’s on block north of Iliff on Havana.. before Pho 75.

Thanks for the tip on Katsu! We’ll have to check it out. We usually go to Hanna Sushi on Buckley & Quincy. Good, not great, but very good value, so….

I hate Carl’s Jr. The food isn’t terrible but everything else that goes into it has made it fairly miserable for me. I do love onion rings with barbecue sauce on my burger, though.

Personally I love me a six-dollar Guacamole bacon burger with criss cut fries.
Some of the other ones aren’t too bad either. I also love getting their Chili Cheese Fries when I just need a snack.
I’d take Carl’s Jr, over In-N-Out any day of the week.

Suit yourself, but for me it the honest truth.
I don’t see the hype surrounding In-N-Out. It not bad, but it’s nothing special.

Its still there
It’s just not an A&W anymore. There have been a couple of place in there since, now it’s a pretty good BBQ joint. Great beer specials during happy hour. Miss the greasy spoon A&W, but only a little bit.

Personally, I love the freshness of it all. No other fast food restaurant has crispy lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and whole tasty onions like In-n-Out. It’s worth waiting 15 or more minutes to me. Plus, it’s the only fast food burger that does not make me ill after eating it.

Yeah, I try to forget it, but I have a defense(Not a real team defense though) It was my fourth game and I’d already faced about 20 shots in the period. Our defense sucked. I’ve seen pylons that are better than our D

another hockey thought
Foote had his best game of the year last night. He played very, very well. Cumiskey, alternately, had his worst.
I still think that Cumiskey’s coaches effed up all those years ago. That dude is a winger, IMHO.

I think Foote looked good because he’s had a trial by fire with Holstrom’s crease tactics. It’s amazing with all the shot points on goal that he didn’t get one solid rebound chance. Foote was using some kind of leg/stick lock on him. Which begs the question of why he can stand on one skate while getting cross-checked and twisted like a pretzel yet he skates behind the net and goes down like he was shot after a poke check.
I don’t want beachie to be upset but I’ll say it just this once… When Liles comes back and Wilson sits back down, this team is going to lose a pretty important aspect of their back line. Just saying…
If it were me I’d certainly try and package Clarke and Salei. Salei’s back injury has to be pretty damned serious at this point, or they don’t want to rush him back just to be a healthy scratch.
I’m not upset. In fact, I think I was the very first person to say, after seeing Cumiskey out there, that Liles better step up or he’s out of a job. Now with Wilson, who can create chances and slam guys like there’s no tomorrow, added in…yeah, Johnny Hot Pocket might be putting his house on the market soon. /calls Anaheim with an anonymous tip…

The Avs may (or may not) suck now, but they've still won a Cup more recently than 75% of the NHL.
What does he need his own place for, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind putting him up for the season.

I might have mentioned that a time or two in the GDT…not only that, but O’Reilly assisted on the goal to keep his point streak alive (six games now?).
How many games is SoS’s record?
