The Avs' Current Lineup
This is probably as much for me as it is anyone else, but with the flurry of roster moves over the past week, I wanted to break down who is on the Avs roster and who is on the IR. That's 28 players - a little more than I can keep track of in my little head. Here's what I have, with the line combos that Joe Sacco started Saturday's delectable game with...
- Jones - Stastny - Hejduk
- Wolski - Duchene - Svatos
- Galiardi - O'Reilly - Stewart
- Koci - Hensick - Hendricks
Extra: Brian Willsie, Chris Druno
IR: Cody McLeod (10/21), Darcy Tucker (10/23)
- Quincey - Hannan
- Cumiskey - Foote
- Wilson - Clark
IR: John-Michael Liles, Ruslan Salei, Tom Preissing
- Anderson
- Budaj
- Weiman

Per Dater Hendricks has a groin pull. No word on what Beachie thinks of Hendricks, before any conclusions are drawn.

so...
Durno has to get the chance to start right?

I’d pick Durno and Willsie over Hensick. So hopefully. They could, Roy forbid, keep Durno in the box and play Hensick and Willsie. And Koci too, even though he hardly plays.

Add Hendricks to the Injury List.
Another groin injury. Paging nurse Beachie…
Mr. Anderson. Welcome back, we've missed you!
Boy this might turn into a full time job for Beachie….of course it would give her an excuse to move to Denver.

Do you think the Avs would put me on their payroll? I’d give physical therapy a whole new meaning.

Seriously. Killer.
The Avs may (or may not) suck now, but they've still won a Cup more recently than 75% of the NHL.
lines appear to be changing though.

Honestly
would it hurt to pick Yelle up off waivers given the current struggles with the faceoffs?
Mile High Mayhem just another ho-hum Avs blog.
It wouldn’t hurt Cap-wise, but as far as “newer, younger, faster” goes, I’d say he doesn’t really have a place on the Avs anymore.

I wonder though…he could become somewhat of a coach…just digging into a few stats worries me.

Anybody know how the IR works (ie how long does a player need to stay on it once placed there? Their salary whilst on the IR doesn’t count against the cap, right?)?
2009-2010 Colorado Avalanche - See what can happen if you like, you know, try and stuff?
A player has to be on the IR for a minimum of 7 days. I believe that said player can still be placed on the IR retroactive to the date of their injury if a team wants to wait to see how serious his injury is, or if they realize that it was more serious than initially thought. Players on the IR still count against the team’s upper limit.
Teams can file an exemption to place a player on the Long Term Injured Reserved List (LTIR) to have their upper limit extended by the amount of the injured player’s salary (pro-rated for the number of days that he is on the LTIR). Players on the LTIR must miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days. They may also do this retroactively, to the latter date of the last game played or the time that the player became unfit to play.

or the time that the player became unfit to play.
So, Arnason didn’t count against the cap last year at all?

Don’t bet on it. Wilson or Cumiskey will sit.

I don’t think that Liles will be back tonight. Looking at the current roster shows that the Avs have 23 men on the active roster (even though Budaj didn’t travel with the team; he’s not listed on the IR). To get Liles to play one of three things would have to happen:
1) The Avs would have to place Budaj on the IR (presumably retroactively back until this past Friday night.)
2) Budaj would suddenly be well enough to play, and rejoin the team in time to sit the bench and have Weiman sent back down to Lake Erie
3) The Avs would have to send down Wilson, which wouldn’t make much sense as that would still only give the team 6 healthy defensemen – including Liles – for the trip.
Personally, I think that the line up remains the same tonight. And if the decision is made that Liles can play tomorrow night, place Budaj on the IR with the intention of having him join the team for Friday’s game in San Jose and Weiman getting sent down.
