A Little Something Called "Premature Evaluation"
Television personallity James Duthie over at TSN.ca just posted a great article about something he calls "Premature Evaluation", the embarassing medical condition in which fans jump to irrational conclusions about their sports team for better or for worse.
If you are suffering from PE, you will probably have come to the following conclusions recently:
--Colorado and Phoenix are unstoppable and will surely meet in the Western Conference Final.
--San Jose and Detroit suck, are likely headed for the draft lottery, and are frantically sending their scouts to Windsor to watch Taylor Hall.
--Martin Brodeur and Roberto Luongo are stiffs, and if Team Canada selects them, they will lose 9-3 to Switzerland.
--The much-hyped Leafs defense couldn't stop that skating chimp from the MVP movies. Even if he was tranquilized.
--Alexander Ovechkin is going to score 90 goals, and 150 points. By Christmas.
Reading the above statements, you might be telling yourself, what the hell? That's the PE. We, as fans, don't always think rationally while we are having a PE moment.

I don’t think anyone, at least on these boards, thinks the Avs are going to keep up this pace. Anyone who does, needs their heads examined
I don't think so either.
I hate that sometimes my often failed attempts at sarcasm get lost somewhere in cyberspace. :-)

Amen! However, I truly was disappointed last year at the huge exodus of Avs fans for hockey in general because the team was losing. Can’t anyone just enjoy hockey for the game?
Just to play the Devil’s advocate. The Avs were a very frustrating team to watch last season. Some nights they played like we all thought they could and others, they looked like they didn’t give a damn. I watched every game, but there were some that were very hard to watch, and it wasn’t because they were losing.
MHH: Like the Avs organization, we’ve now officially lost our minds.

Please don’t call PETA on me. They’d be pissed if they know who Kris Draper is.

So do the chimpanzees and they are heading towards their collection of feces in preparation of your visit.

I think any "overreaction" around here
Has been heavy with tongues in cheeks.
I’ll still be surprised if we make the playoffs, although I’m starting to believe we might not quite be in the bottom 5 again.
I actually think the playoffs are a reasonable goal, and attainable. I think the distance (points-wise) between 8th and 15th isn’t going to be very significant.
If the team is able to continue their current play, they might have a shot at the playoffs. But it’s only two games in and anything could still happen. Plus teams are going to get to a point where they stop looking past the Avs (if that’s what San Jose and Vancouver did).

Exactly. In fact that’s what happened last year. We got on a five game winning streak, teams took notice, and Granato failed to adjust the “system” to compensate. I hope Sacco is smarter than that because I think the NHL has already taken notice.
An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.
Now that's what I am talking about!

This Avs squad is so good, they could win the world series while they’re at it. ;)

I don’t know about the World Series, but they have a good shot at the Super Bowl…Just let Koci have one shot at the other teams quarterback and it’s all over.

But what if the Avs
had to face Ditka?

Ridiculous assertions!
Everyone knows we will still go 81-1-0. Last night was a necessary and deliberate action to ensure that we will be even better NEXT season!
