Avalanche Tuesday

Some quick bullet points to discuss this morning...

  • Tyler Arnason has left the Hartford Wolpack to play in Europe. Hartford suspended him. His reaction photo will no doubt be posted in the comments section.
  • Shane Giroux from Avs talk is going to be chatting for the CBC today. This is an amazing (and well-deserved) honor for Shane, and would be bullet point #1 if we weren't talking about Tyler Arnason. Make sure you stop by to ask him some difficult questions. Hey, make HIM come up with a nickname for Duchene!
  • The Avs should be unveiling their 3rd jerseys this week. Saturday's game is unofficially when they will debut. I imagine we might see them on Thursday or Friday.
  • Manny Legace was released from a PTO by the Chicago Wolves.
  • Blah Blah Blah Peter Forsberg Blah Blah Blah

That's about all the bullets I have in this thing. Enjoy the work day, Avalanchers.

Tyler Arnason breaks his contract and signs to play in Europe? I’ll bet that the IIHF suspends him from international play, too. I guess that he won’t be able to play for team USA in the Olympics.

Enjoy the work day?? Enjoy, and work should never be in the same sentence.

I’ll take the bullets 1 by 1
- Tyler Arnason…you watch him go and score over a point a game in Europe. I’m reminded of a former Manitoba Moose/Cincinnati Mighty Ducks player named (seriously) Cory Pecker. He was hot stuff coming out of Jr.’s and played a decent AHl career, but could never crack an NHL roster. He goes over to Europe and scores nearly 2 points a game. It could happen, but of course, you might have to KNOW how to play hockey first

- Maybe I’ll stop by if time allows it

- I’m really pulling for a decent looking jersey, but based on what I have seen, I’m not holding out much hope

- Released from the PTO, signs with the Hurricanes, while Cam Ward thanks god for his injury (not really, but would YOU want to be on the Hurricanes or have a skate dragged dangerously close to your groin? Tough call right now)

- Forsberg is like a woman with a closet full of clothes who declares that she has nothing to wear…I don’t think he knows what is going to have for breakfast most mornings. His saga is always a good, albeit frustrating, one to read

I work in radio news…an industry that is being cut left and right. Currently I am stuck where I am, because those jobs aren’t really “expanding.”

Currently I am in the “thankful just to have a job” category. I love the actual job…they way it’s run, that’s a different story (you HAVE to love your job in radio….because you definitely aren’t doing it for the money)

Here's some more news:

Giguere basically saying that he wants out of Anaheim:

“I’d rather retire than be a backup goalie,” Giguere said to the L.A. Daily News. "Something needs to happen. You get a guy like (Hiller) that’s going to be a free agent at the end of the year and myself, making the money I’m making, either I’m leaving or he’s leaving.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=297862

Remember when after losing in game 7 of the 2003 cup final and winning the Conn Smythe, there was a rumor that the Avs were going to offer sheet him as an RFA since Patrick Roy had retired? Same year that both Kariya and Selanne signed with the team.

Well yeah, I was use “Patrick Roy” anytime someone demands a trade, so him letting them know why he wants a trade is slightly more professional than straight up saying I’ve played my last game. Obviously he’s nowhere near Roys level.

Not how I read that

I read “I want to start, if not here, then elsewhere”. It’s kind of a prickish way to say it, but he essentially said if he loses the starting job to Hiller, he wants out.

Then again, if he loses the starting job to Hiller then the Ducks probably want his $6M contract off the books.

The best part about it is that there’s a certain douchebag team that could really use him, but they have nowhere near enough cap space unless they trade away one of their top players, and they really don’t have the assets to give the Duck equal value AND trade away cap for relief.

Pretty sure that you’re talking about the Leafs. I still think that there are a lot of question marks in that scenario:

First, the Monster is playing well, despite being thrown to the wolves.

And secondly, as you pointed out, there would be cap issues to consider. The Leafs would have to throw an equal amount back contract wise to make it work, if they are to be taking on Giguere’s $6 million cap hit for this season and next. ESPN’s LeBrun suggested Alexei Ponikarovsky and his $2.105 million cap number.

The Leafs are one of the few teams on Giguere’s short list (he has a no-movement clause), he would be reunited with goalie coach Francois Allaire and he could mentor rookie Jonas Gustavsson, much like he did Jonas Hiller in Anaheim.

Vesa Toskala is making $4 million in the last year of his contract. Would the Ducks take Toskala in return as their back up, knowing that his salary would come off the books at the end of the year? Is he even healthy? Do they feel that Pogge is ready enough for a full-time back up gig in the NHL?

Third, If the Ducks want to go with Pogge and aren’t interested in Toskala, what other options do the Leafs have? Jason Blake, Mike Komisarek, Francois Beauchemin, and Tomas Kaberle all have contracts with $4+ million cap numbers.

Ponikarovsky and Kaberle for Giguere, and the Leafs waive Toskala?

by c0nquistad0rian on Nov 10, 2009 12:39 PM MST up reply actions   0 recs

Nope

Think biggest douchebag team. The Giguere-Detroit scenario has been speculated upon in a lot of places.

I think it was a combination, He only wants to start but he knows that one of them is gonna be going and since Hiller seems to be the #1 he wants to make it slightly easier for the Ducks by saying trade him and keep Hiller.

Av's third jerseys

Some real news from the Av’s, in the same article about Tucker, Preissing, et. al. at http://avalanche.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=505569&navid=DL|COL|home
they comment that the third jerseys will be revealed on Thursday and worn on Saturday.

Also, if Arny went to play in Europe/Russia it would still be to close to the NHL. If he is going to Florida, they must be really desperate.

Just your run of the mill Tuesday shot of happiness

On my NHL Gamecenter launch page they have a image of what Gamecenter looks like. They are advertising their picture-in-picture mode. There are probably 300,000 photos they could choose from. The main picture is of Tampa Bay celebrating. The smaller picture is of the Scott Hannan skating with the puck…

against Detroit..

with 4 minutes left in the First Period..

we are winning 4 – 0

It’s a little shot of happiness every time i load it. Thank you nhl.com

I’m currently watching the Flamers-Habs game. At first I thought the Flamers were playing the Mild because the Habs are wearing a Christmas Tree jersey.

Forsberg

Lot’s of interesting talk today. NHL.com has a headline that says Sherman is eyeing Forsberg.

Eklund (taken of course with a mound of salt and a deep hearty laugh) says that Forsberg’s choices are 1. Colorado 2. Colorado 3. Colorado. I actually like this rumor ( I want Forsberg and think it will be beneficial and could care less about how much we give him).

Dater, however says he will most likely not sign with the Avs (since management may not want to sign him). However, I think they will make him an offer to fill seats and generate the early season buzz instead of doing it later in the season. Perfect timing for them, I believe to start filling seats and garnering attention for the Avs.

yah, i can get behind that kind of rumor too. but the fact eklund is saying it makes me sad cuz that means it won’t happen.
