Avalanche 3rd Jerseys Unveiled
Today, the Avalanche are unveiling their 3rd jerseys. I'm sure better photos will be out soon, but for now we have the jersey on a splash page. [UPDATE - hot model shots now up.] I don't really have time to offer too much on them right now. I figured going in they couldn't be any worse than the Avs existing unipron monstrosities (hint: not a fan). My one sentence verdict? Could have been worse. I don't love it...but at least I don't hate this. I refuse to buy a unipron, but I'll probably pick up one of these at some point...

Like I said in the other thread: Looks like a Rangers jersey rip-off. Not original at all! And what is it with the strange shiny fabric?
Looks better than the photoshop image. Need to see them in hockey action.

I'm decidedly meh on them.
But like you said, it’s better than the unipron. I think this is what I’m going to get, now which rookie? Duchene, O’Reilly or Galiardi?

I don’t know why. But the legit pics look cool. It’s also cool to see them wear something completely different. Although if they had striping on the bottom of the jersey, they’d be the bomb.

I like the design, but a guy at Fanzz in Ft. Collins showed me one about 3 weeks ago. It was a kids jersey, so it was probably not quite right, but I don’t recall there being anything on the bottom. I’ve been waiting to see the real thing.

after seeing them on players not so horrible, but if they’d just made the shoulders black instead of burgondy it really would have been better. The lettering looks like a 2nd grader carved it out of construction paper.

I definitely like them better than the “unipron”. Seeing them now, I wonder how it would have looked with Burgundy letters on the front instead of white? I like that it has the laces again, and like many think that some sort of stripping at the bottom would have helped.
Can they replace the home Unipron with this jersey, and then develop another 3rd jersey?

At least as far as the chest and shoulders go. I guess that you’d have to throw the Avs logo in there instead of the diagonal Colorado lettering and put some striping on the bottom to give it a true look of their regular jersies.

I thought I remembered hearing the reason they dropped the bottom stripe was because the way they create the jerseys or some shit doesn’t let them do fancy striping.

They’re def ‘frostbite blue’ or whatever we coined it. And for the record, I have a Stats unipron and A Drury (old) third. You know
If they had thrown a white stripe around the bottom or something around the bottom these would be really good. As for now I just think they are OK maybe after seeing them on the ice on Sat they may grow on me not sure yet but could be an option for an O’Reilly jersey
I like them because of the … hockey socks. I think the socks mathing the sleeves with the black breezers give the entire thing a classic look. It may not be the greatest stand alone jersey but the whole thing will look great on the ice.
It’s about time I’ve paid proper homage to the Duke… a possible future retired Avalanche. I think that falls in to some kind of JIbble tier.
Breezers? Where are you from? I thought that only Minnesotans called them breezers.

After seeing them on the players
I like them a whole lot more. The initial pic on the Avs website made the color look too “Rangers”-blue. But seeing it on our actual players, I like the rich blue, and the burgundy on the shoulders is a great contrast. Plus, the black trim on the name, numbers, and Colorado pop much better than they did on the old burgundy 3rd. If they have a special sale, I’m all over it.
What is their obsession with the lace up 3rd jersey? It is seriously not a good look. Although, these are better than the horrid maroon ones of a few years ago.
totally disagree on both counts. lace up is cool, retro. old thirds simple, classic. IMO of course.

You know, I was never much a fan of the old thirds. I think that these do a much better job at capturing that classic retro look. And I still think that they could easily be altered to come up with a better home jersey than the current unipron.

i agree that the new ones have a more retro look; i liked the old ones for their simplicity.

By the way…she turned me into a newt!
That’s OK, Beachie tried to me into a Canary and put me into a house full of cats. Unfortunately for her the cats had already been killed by the Avs “power” play.

What if...
the third jerseys were the original avalanche color scheme…. but with all of the Nordiques logos?

I don't know about that
I think the Nords logos fit Baby blue much better than burgundy

it's been said before but...
the Avs do not own the rights to the Nords’ logo. The NHL does. They couldn’t do that even if they wanted to (and I agree with Drake…don’t think it would work)

Where's beachie???
I don’t think that she’s commented in this thread yet. Wondering if she’d think that one of those jerseys would look good on her bedroom floor.

I’m here! Actually worked today. lol. I am debating between the kids, of course. And since both would look equally good on my floor, it’s been a tough decision.

Ok, I need beachie’s opinion on this one. I don’t have the skillz to link to the exact picture, but check out picture six in this gallery, and tell me: does Liles have some competition?

Oh I’ve thought for a while that Quincey is hot. Seeing him in LA and then I met hlm in Vegas at the Frozen Fury. Very yummy. Considering his name/number on the third too. I’ve no idea tho.
My problem is I hate to “go with the crowd” on this stuff and everyone’s all into O’Reilly now. But then I want to make sure whomever I get is with the team for a while (got burned on the Kariya deal already) so…. ??

That’s why I bought a Sakic jersey. He was the only 100% safe bet.

Well yeah. Now, there is no 100% safe bet. Which is why I’m not buying a jersey any time soon. (That, and I’m very, very poor.)

maybe a “safe bet” isn’t really an issue when you think about how surprising this team has been. since this is the debut year of the new third, getting one to honor the debut of a new kid could work for all of eternity. hence, i’m back to duchene or o’reilly. who would’ve thought this would be such a hard decision.

ummm, gali’s debut with the team came last year. if i’m going risky, i’m going brand new to the NHL.

holy effing christ
We sure did like paying Sakic when we had the cash… I was looking up a few things and NHL payrolls and salaries are a bit tough to track down. It wasrted with someone claiming the Avs and Wings bought their campionships in the 90s.
After the Rangers offered his a $15 million bonus and a 2/year salary, we ended up giving Super Joe $16.45 a year!!
In the first year of the salary cap, that would be over 40% of the team maximum!! Sakic and Forsberg also each had (about) $10,000,000 seasons after that as well…
Damn salary cap…
09
whoah
we bought them, but noone else di, so unlucky to them.
actually, I looked more on the wiki
it skips a fair bit of the 90s, but
highest payroll:
year team
98/99 Red Wings (48.3)
99/00 Rangers (59.4)
00/01 Rangers (56.9)
01/02 Red Wings (66.6)
02/03 Rangers (76.5)
03/04 Red Wings (77.9)
04/05 Gary Bettman
05/06 Devils (44.9)
06/07 Devils (49.6)
07/08 Avalanche (61.3)
I guess the moral here is that WE didn’t buy our championships…
In 2000-2001 we spent 51.7, about a fifth going to Peter Forsberg. I guess drafting and trading for is the same as buying to people on teh interwebs.
09
I think that a lot of that was a signing bonus, which was allowed under that CBA. If you look at the end of that particular contract, I think that he was making about $2 million one year. Still, it averaged out to be a pretty hefty salary.

Fail
Complete and total ass. They had the best 3rd jerseys in the league a few years ago, inexplicably got rid of them (unless it was an RBK-mandated thing), and now they sort of go back to that style except for the distracting design across the shoulders and the not-quite Nordiques blue. Another reprehensible marketing job by the geniuses at KSE.

Better than uniprons, not as nice as the old 3rd jerseys, which rocked.
My exact same opinion.

I never thought the old thirds were that great. Actually, I kinda like these better. They’re completely different from anything the team has ever worn, and still not as bad as a lot of jerseys in the league.

I know, we can’t all be perfect…at least I didn’t say I desire my jersey to look more like the Red Wings, then you could kick me out of the club
white prons are worlds better than the red prons…although still a terrible, terrible jersey

Also a day to digest...
I do like them as the players wear them… the striping on the socks matches and sleeves and ties it all together pretty well.
I certainly didn’t like the leaked image with the black striping without seeing the whole shells and sweaters together. But I think I may buy one, in honor of our young team!
Thanks Joe...
