Altitude Hates You
Hi, Flames fan here watching tonight's game on Altitude. I can't believe how much crap Altitude puts on their beautiful 1080i broadcast screen that ISN'T the game.
I'm seeing lots of ads covering the bottom of the screen, ads for Taco Bell, Wendy's, and the like, right on top of the play.
I'm also seeing other crawls being run at the bottom, crawls that make do not cover the action but have the effect of squashing the screen vertically, making the players look short and fat. Again, during play!
I have Center Ice and watch lots of different broadcasts around the league. Seriously, I can't believe how much junk Altitude puts on the Avs screen, obscuring the game.
Whoever runs Altitude hates you.

Yeah, that really sucked. Who cares about the Nuggets?

Long time reader, first time poster. Obviously by the avatar, a die-hard Nugs fan.
Anyway, my biggest problem with Altitude isn’t the Prvada style announcing, the 10,000,000 graphics taking up the screen or the general incompetence. It’s the fact that they constantly will show replays, or interviews with coaches/players WHILE THE GAME IS GOING ON. Is it that hard to understand that live > pre-taped? Egads.

It’s cool to like the Nuggets, I just don’t understand how anyone can like the NBA at this point.
IMO it’s unwatchable.

Other feeds do that too. It is my biggest pet peeve with hockey commentating besides Jim Fox of the Kings. I can’t stand that guy.

I would rather be locked in a classroom for three days with 30 high school students then listen to Fox. That guy is horrible….
Actually maybe he isn’t really that bad, but the inflection in his voice and the way he speaks is what annoys me and I can’t actually listen to what he says.

The thing that really kills me is that final inflection he always uses that goes up an octave. It’s exactly the same every time. So annoying.

I always think of Rick Moranis’ character in Ghostbusters when I was Fox. Not really sure if I can put my finger on why, though.
it’s too bad, because he actually is very insightful.

I should clarify. I have nothing against the Nuggets, and cheer for them as the home-town team. However, when compared to the Avalanche, I don’t care about the Nuggets at all.

Why’d you have to go and remind me? I could have operated under the delusion that every team did that.

Does Altitude really hate us?

and I believe you missed out on the digitally added ads on the glass behind the nets. Those are simply awful (perhaps more so because I didn’t realize they were fake until recently).

Yeah Mike had to tell me there were fake. I didn’t notice; I just kept saying “Man, I’d be really pissed if I had to sit behind that”.
Ugh. Those are terrible.

Have you noticed when the graphics have been misplaced? More than once have the graphics been placed over the net, covering the goal and the action.

Was it just my DirecTV Receiver?
Or did a huge chunk of the game last night have weird stop motion issues with the video feed? More hate from Altitude? I also really hate all of the super obtrusive ads they put on the screen, always over play, not during breaks. Aholes.

PS
I don’t have an HD TV yet. So my video issues were in standard definition. Channel 682 on DirecTV.

Yeah, we had the same problem. Mike said it was because it was the HD feed and we don’t have an HD tv. Happened last game too.
So are they going to keep doing this? Yikes. It was hard to watch. And I’m pretty sure there are other folks out there who don’t have HD yet.

I took my beautiful 6 year-old daughter to the Pepsi Center Saturday night. We had nachos. She had cotten candy. She saw a big St. Bernard wearing an Av 3rd sweater with a dog bone instead of a number. We had a good time overall. Too bad there wasn’t a game.

I don’t think it was a non-HD thing. I think it was a glitch, as it wasn’t there the whole game.

Sort of good to know
And I did seem to notice is much more in the third period. Hopefully they’ll fix it. Altitude is claiming it was a DirecTV problem.

Broadcasting in Obstructivision!
Should be Altitude’s trademark for Av telecasts. I’ve complained about this over the past few years, and sent them messages that have never been answered (shocking, I know). And don’t forget the fact that their radio broadcasts can now be heard by tens of people scattered in and out of the metro area who happen to have the tin foil properly placed. Great job Stan! Keep up the “good work.”

Smushing the image is the WORST!
It makes my LDtv really really suck. Usually for GO Auto group I think. I’m going to tell GO that I won’t be buying any cars until they stop bending my broadcast.
GO CATS GO! UVM Hockey 2010!
I can get the AM broadcasts, but forget the FM
The AM 1510 broadcast usually ain’t bad, can get tinny at times…but mostly clean with a simple antenna.
Forget the FM broadcasts if the Avs get bumped from the AM by the Nugs – nothing but static for me. I mean absolutely nothing.
We will fight in the mountains. We will fight in the valleys. We will fight on the ice and in the stands. We will never surrender.
Maybe Altitude should try that black and white thing again tonight?
Might be better than the last few telecasts (including the one that didn’t happen).

Is anyone else
made completely insane by the fact that the graphics guy at altitude sucks so bad that they often don’t get the penalty clock up until the PP is about half over?

That’s the director’s fault, not the graphics guy.
But yes, he sucks.

K. When I sat graphics guy, I mean whoever is supposed to make sure the graphic makes in onto my screen;)

Same thing when a team pulls the goalie. That graphic is usually 30-40 seconds late.
The whole directing sequence that goes on when a team pulls the goalie is absolutely pathetic. I remember awhile back, they had the picture-in-picture of the goalie skating to the bench, but kept the larger screen dedicated to the attacking play. Now if they do show the goalie being pulled, they dedicate the entire screen to the goalie skating to the bench while his team is attacking. Granted it’s only 4-5 seconds, but it is a very important 4-5 seconds that we are missing.

Don't talk bad about the Taco Bell guy!
You can tell he really enjoys eating that food and pointing to the Taco Bell logo so you know where he got such tasty food.
www.returnoftheghostbusters.com
One the other half of the screen that is not occupied by the Taco Bell ad, show a map of Colorado and point out all of the Taco Bell locations show we can go pick up this tasty food!! Why are they trying to show a hockey game in the middle of a Taco Bell commercial anyways? ;)
The problem with the world is that everyone is a few drinks behind - Humphrey Bogart
HA HA HA! This is a great idea. And then when Arby’s pays for advertisements, we can have little Arby’s symbols floating above all the Avs players heads. Especially on Power Plays, where they’re clearly “thinking Arby’s”.
