Oh, you can hear that here too.
Dion Phadouche is a twat. Dion Phadouche leaves his feet on every check. Dion Phadouche won’t fight. Dion Phadouche, when he is forced to fight by bad asses named Ian Laperriere, trips over his own stick in fear. Dion Phadouche’s initials are DP. nuff said. Dion Phadouche is a selfish asshole who won’t give Todd Bertuzzi his reach around. blah blah blah.

While I'm waiting for the game to start...
I’m watching the QMJHL selects play the Russians. Kelsey Tessier just scored on a nice tip in front.
Nah
It’s on Sportsnet here in Canada. I’m not sure if it’s being shown anywhere in the States.

That’s not a situation in which a goal is inevitable (“nothing could have been done.”)

That’s fair, I just think you can trust Boods to be Boods and tonight the D weren’t doing that.

Anderson’s rebounds are generally sent away straight after good saves. Budaj’s seem to go up in the air and bounce all around, and right toward someone on the other team as well.
Bills fan? In Colorado? It's more likely than you think.
by UZ on Nov 18, 2009 9:54 PM MST up reply actions
The thing I have noticed is a lot of Budaj’s rebounds go straight out to the slot whereas Anderson’s rebounds get directed to the corners more often than not which is a plus. That being said, it’s not always true. Anderson let’s plenty of slot rebounds as well.
An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.
The point I’m trying to make is … the quality of goal support. If the Avs are off on goal support, I don’t think it matters who is in net.
An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.
I think Budaj had a bad game and I don’t hate Budaj. I am more annoyed that the offense, playing an Oiler goaltender that was having a poor game too, didn’t compensate by taking more fraking shots.
Hopefully #9 is not ten less than #19
Yup
Shots on goal have been an issue all season for this team.

Much like Clark, Svatos (this season), when it comes to forwards, d-men the blame gets spread pretty evenly. Only the Goalie seems to receive full credit/blame for loses.

comes with teh territory
goalies have more to do with winning and losing than any other position in hockey.
look, i don't hate budaj
but he flat out played terrible, and was a primary cause of the loss. good goalies make 4 GF and a 2 goal lead stand up, 5 on 3 failures aside.
and good D-men clear pucks and/or players out from the front of the net, ours did neither. I’m not saying Budaj did well, I;m just saying that the did poorly.
by chibigodzilla on Nov 18, 2009 9:47 PM MST up reply actions
Yes, but if Budaj covers up even ONE of those world famous god-awful rebounds, the Avs win this game.

I really do not get the kneejerk reactions on this site every time anyone says anything bad about Peter Budaj. It’s fine to like the guy, but he was awful for 2/3rds of this game. He is what he is. I think people remember that one run he put together to end the 95 point playoffless season, but that is the only time he’s ever been that player. Like I said before, he makes great saves and he gives up terrible goals. He gave up 3 terrible goals tonight. Was he the only problem? No. But he was A problem.
Positives…
We actually won more faceoffs
We had a two goal lead
We answered a soft goal
Negatives…
- Hedjuk missed the nail in the coffin
- not cleaning rebounds
- we didn’t even take 20 shots.

It’s a good think Deslauriers isn’t a good goalie, or this would could have been a game very similar to the Vancouver game that never happened.

I like Budaj
I really do. But I honestly think Neo wins this game, and for more reasons than “BOOdaz Suxors.”
The #2 reason we lost- Marek Svatos- who I also like, couldn’t bury the puck from three feet away, three times, on a 5 on 3.
Now Why, you say. Because of momentum mostly. With a few timely saves/ good goals/ no softies, we win.

Preissing, Thomas – All the speed of Adam Foote ca. 2009, none of the defensive intelligence or grit.
Marek Svatos – So you’re a close-in, clean up, pseudo garbage goaler. OK, cool. So, WTF????
Darcy Tucker – you try real hard & stuff (at least this year), but please apply your garbage goaling (no shame in this at all), slow ass to the bottom lines where we can use you rather than double shifting the rest of the team in order to make up for David Koci’s intentional absence.

He was one of them yes.
So was poor defense in front of the net at times.
The lack of shooting (against a better goalie the Avs probably don’t score 2 of their goals).
Big momentum shift in not scoring on TWO 5 on 3’s and then giving up a PPG right after.

I love Budaj, but Jesus Christ some of those goals were amazingly bad to watch. It’s always the same pattern. Long shot, Budaj goes 3 feet out of position and lets a crazy rebound get away from him, someone from the other team finds it right on his stick, they score.
Bills fan? In Colorado? It's more likely than you think.
I like the guy a lot...
but he looked like a goalie that’s barely played for 8 months. He had some of his patented great saves, and a couple of crappy soft goals.
I agree that if Andy plays this game, we win. But if we had put the puck in the net on ONE of our TWO 5-on-3s, we win too. If Clark had gotten his stick in the passing lane more, we would have won. If Preissing’s positioning is improved, we win the game.
Lots of ifs.
Thanks Joe...

I can’t believe we’re back to drawn out arguments over whether Budaj sucks or not. He had a bad game. It happens. It seems much worse since he’s only had two starts and three total appearances all season.
For the love of god, people. Let it go. He had a bad game, the team had a bad game. They’re not shooting enough, they’re not clearing rebounds enough, they’re not consistent enough.
It happens.
Budaj is a solid backup goalie who sometimes has bad games. This was one of them. What more is there to say?

I’m just claiming that the defense did poorly; where does that fall?
by chibigodzilla on Nov 18, 2009 10:14 PM MST up reply actions
i think the lines of communication got crossed like this:
MHHer A: Man, Budaj was terrible.
MHHer B: But the defense/goalsupport/something was awful!
A: How can you say that Budaj wasn’t bad?
B: How can you say he’s solely to blame for this loss?
When in fact neither person was saying those latter things. Hence why I asked those clarifying questions.
You're right on there
The D was also bad, my point is that the D is trying to overcompensate. I can’t see how else they would fail so bad in the latter stages of the game after seeing what amounts to “oh no, not this shit again”. That may be a little too tough on Budaj, but I think it’s at least partially valid.
Get rid of the loser point
09-10 Avs- Nowhere to go but up!
Not that Budaj was great, but I think that a D has to adjust to their goalie. Think of a wing trying to play the same exact game with Sakic as center vs Foresberg at center; both are good palyers, but the wings need to be aware of the playing style of the center.
That’s the same with a goalie, but probably more importatnt because 6 defenders need to adapt to the goalie, but only a couple need to adapt to the new center
by chibigodzilla on Nov 18, 2009 10:35 PM MST up reply actions
a D has to adjust to their goalie
I agree. to a point. There is also a system that is being played, and one suck can throw it all off. regardless of those two points, I have been on teams where you compensate for a weak player. It looks suspiciously familiar to the Avs when Budaj is in net. Not saying its right, just saying that’s how it looks.

True, it did look like they were trying to cover for Boods; it just felt like they were trying to cover for him like he would make the same first save that Andy does.
End of the day I think that Boods really needs a change of scenery since many fans (and, it seems, many players) don’t feel he can even do a backup job. Maybe he and Aby can team up as a crime fighting duo.
