Various Avalanche Moves and Injury Updates
In honor of our lovely new site design, the Colorado Avalanche are undergoing a slight redesign of their own this week. Lots and lots of interesting updates, some (all?) have been reported already, but here they are all in one place.
First, the Highlander will return on Wednesday. That's the good news. The bad news? He's skating on a line with Matt Duchene and...Marek Svatos. Enough said.
To make room for McLeod, Brian Willsie was reassigned. Willsie put 4 more games under his belt and is now just 20 games away from qualifying for a full NHL pension.
Peter Budaj, who was rocking a little beard on the bench on Sunday, will finally get his first start of the season on Wednesday. And there was much rejoicing.
On the walking wounded front, Tom Preissing took part in full-contact practice for the first time this season which means we'll soon have an answer to the following question: What the hell are we going to do with Tom Preissing?
Darcy Tucker took part in many of the practice drills today. Matt Hendricks and Ruslan Salei skated with Tucker before practice, but did not stick around for the drills (slackers).

Good to see the grit coming back.
Mile High Mayhem just another ho-hum Avs blog.

I noticed that the Avs don’t like Preissing as being on the IR on the roster listed on their website while Salei, Tucker, McLeod, and Hendricks all are.
I wonder how close that means Preissing is to coming back. I also wonder why T.J. Galiardi is not listed as being on the IR. Isn’t he supposed to be out 4-6 weeks?

that’s been my little mystery all season – Preissing hasn’t been listed on the IR all year

Speaking of various Avalanche updates...
Anyone see the ‘in’ headline on espn.com that has Forsberg going to the wings? That’s gotta be bullshit, right??

of course anything is possible
but i’d bet a lot of money he’s not going there. and i don’t bet.

it's NOT enough said about Svatos
Svatos has the highest ES GAON/ 60 of the ENTIRE TEAM at 3.91 (that’s even strength goals against while on the ice per 60 min). He’s also the 4th lowest ES GFON/60 among players with 5 games played (ahead of Liles, Hendricks, and sadly Matt Duchene).
It’s been way too small a sample size to draw more…sweeping conclusions, but I can say this for sure: Svatos and Duchene are NOT working together at even strength. Split them up, ffs. Not only will it give us a clearer idea of who’s dragging who down, it’s probably both of their best chances for success.
I’m ok with McLeod going back with Duchene at this point. I’d be happier with Stewie or Jones on his other wing, but whatever. Anything is better than Willsie.
