Puck Prospectus tells us that Craig Anderson really is as bad at shootouts as he has seemed. Too bad we didn't see this bit of foreshadowing so we could put all of the anti-jinxes in place before being embarrassed by the freaking Wild.

He also HATES the shootout, and when I say hate, I mean HATE! That said, he does look quite lost in them…kind of like the Boods at the beginning of his career. (Though Boods got exponentially better)

Ohhhh yeah.

I remember that interview where he got super huffy talking about shootouts and his passionate dislike for them. That said, it’s a part of the NHL now and he flat out sucks at them.

I thought you knew that algebra was all razzamatazz. A Globetrotter always saves the good algebra for the final minutes.

by SlamDunkTheFunk on Nov 30, 2009 5:43 AM MST up reply actions

He said as much…yeah, that interview was after the 3 SO with the Blackhawks (the one that didn’t go 500 rounds)

by chiavsfan on Nov 30, 2009 6:17 AM MST up reply actions

My question

Does he hate because he knows he sucks at it?

A 2nd round rookie in the race for Calder? ORLY? Ya RLY!

by Drakenlot on Nov 30, 2009 10:39 AM MST up reply actions

that is a chicken-egg question i posed a while back. does he hate them cuz he sucks at them or does he suck at them cuz he hates them? i suspect it’s hating cuz he’s sucking.

I think it is more of a dog chasing its tale

He hates them cuz he sucks at them so it makes him hate them more which makes him suck at them even worse . . . .

Varlamov

hates shootouts too. There was an interview of him after that 11 rounder. He doesn’t speak much English, but he spoke enough to say how much he hates them. Thing is, at least he is good at them even if he hates them.

Boods and Wolski were what made the Avs successful at the shootouts last year.

And something happened to the Baron…he looks completely uninterested this year

by chiavsfan on Nov 30, 2009 11:18 AM MST up reply actions

I dunno. He looked pretty pissed off that he missed that last one. (It appeared to be a big ole F-bomb that he dropped right after.) I think in earlier SOs he was trying new moves that clearly were big fails. Unfortunately, he went back to his money shot and it wasn’t so money.

Put in BuDEYE during the SOuts.

Ryan O'Reilly for the Calder.

Shootouts are a part of the game. Albeit, they may not be a part of every game. But, they could mean the difference between making the playoffs and missing them.

Regardless of whether or not Anderson likes the shootouts, Thibault should be working with Anderson on shoot outs. And Sacco should make them a part of practice. I can’t say for certain that he hasn’t. But, I haven’t heard or seen anything written about shootouts in practice. Some recently successful teams smartly turn in practice shootouts into a fun game.

I have a fun practice shootout game idea!

Make Hot Pocket strip off an article of clothing everytime Andy misses. He’ll be nekid in no time!

Better idea

Have ice girls put on an article of clothing every time Andy lets in a goal. That would get him to improve his game.

And with the 32nd pick in the 2009 NHL draft, the Red Wings select: Someone other than Ryan O'Reilly. LOL@Detoilet.

Here’s a solution to Andy and shoot outs: the team plays during the 3rd period and holds on to the freaking lead!

There is that logic thing again. Please stop that!

by chiavsfan on Nov 30, 2009 4:32 PM MST up reply actions

Wouldn’t that mean that they would have to actually carry the play, spend time in the offensive zone, and maybe even shoot the puck? That’s just too hard. It’s so much easier to sit in your own zone, let the other team come to you, expect your goalie to stop every shot, and once in a blue moon actually clear the puck into the neutral zone so you or one of your line mates can go sit on the bench.

What's really funny...

…is I don’t think that I’ve seen Andy get beaten on a breakaway all year. Goes to show the difference in the shootout and the real game. Guys have time to think. I really think he outthinks himself during the shootout.

Duh.
