Mile High Casting Call

Do you like the Colorado Avalanche? Do you have internet access? Do you like the movie Airplane? If you answered yes to a couple of those questions, we might have a job for you.
Simply put, we're looking to add a couple of writers. I think Joe's real-world gig is fairly common knowledge around here, and I have a newish job that has me a lot busier during the day too. Mike and Angelique are still pitching in as well, but Mile High Hockey has grown so big that it's hard for us to *ahem* keep up with the Joneses. So, the talent search is on.
Interested? There's only a few basic requirements. You need to be an Avalanche fan, of course, preferably one who can write well. Being able to commit to writing at least a couple of several times a week is a necessity. Beyond that, we're pretty much wide open. You don't need to be an established blogger. In fact, we're not particularly looking for the best writers, but the ones who we think will mesh the best with the existing staff (we're not going anywhere, for what it's worth). Oh, and by "writing", I mean providing content - if you're a photoshop guru or have some other skill that could be incorporated into a regular feature here, don't be afraid to apply.
What's in it for you? Honestly, if you have to ask that question, then this gig is probably not right for you. You're not going to get rich or famous doing this (or maybe I'm just doing it wrong). On the flip side, the hazing period isn't so bad and the dress code is totally lax.
If you are still interested, shoot me an email (listed in my profile) with a little blurb introducing yourself and telling me why you want this crazy gig. We haven't done anything like this here before and we're pretty much making this process up as we go along, so there's absolutely no timetable for any decisions on our part. But definitely get those emails in to me soon; I've got a bunch of movies about gladiators to watch.

OMG!! Like if I lived in Denver, you know, and could like drop by practices and stuff do like little interviews with the guys and all, I would totally do a cool little regular thing like “Beachie’s Boys Today” and it would all be about their personal lives and shit!!! Of course, that might be, like, problematic with, you know, that tiny little restraining order thing and all.
Seriously, I would love to do an “Off the Ice” feature on the team. Maybe there’s some way I could pull it off remotely, starting with background stuff for now or compiling into one place parts of interviews from Altitude, the Post, NHL.com, etc. It would probably only be weekly tho… I’m posting this here rather than emailing you DDC because
(1) want to know if anyone would be interested in that kind of thing
(2) just sort of happened that way…train of thought and all
You mean the Avs aren't going to get the top draft pick this summer???

I’d enjoy watching that sort of column slowly turn from a newsish informative column into a “Beachies stalker report” throughout the course of the year :D

Yeah
All the people I’ve been trying to convince to migrate over from Purple Row would be appalled at the level of creepy going on over here.
I’m totally diggin’ it, yo.

Eh, those guys are just too up tight, that’s probably why I rarely post there :/

As a whole, I think they're too uptight as well.
I said ‘fuck’ once over there and within 45 seconds had a comment telling me it was frowned upon over there. Not exactly my scene. That said, some of the cats over there are real chill homies (sup Muzia, RMN, SD, RIRF).

It didn’t help that I only started checking PR out after the season was already almost over so I didn’t get to participate in fun game-day discussions.
…Oh, they don’t like cursing? I should probably cut down on the “Borje de la Shitsa” posts.

The Winter Meetings threads were awesome
but as predicted, I pretty much stopped contributing over there once those were over. The place just doesn’t fit me anymore.

I love the creepy over here
It’s really a reflection of the different types of fans that different sports have. I love observing the differences.
Caution: Colorado teams are better than they appear.

Hmmmm, maybe I’ll have to come up with a psuedonym for the stalker report…or the Off Ice report since Beachie already has the rep. lol.

So are we looking for a new “good girl” moniker for me? lol. Or can Beachie still do the “Off the Ice: Cody McLeod” and “Off the Ice: Kyle Quincey” articles? We can have “Hockey Hottie’s Stalker Reports” if you want…
You mean the Avs aren't going to get the top draft pick this summer???

Although…if I’m emailing the guys via the Avalanche organization, I’m gonna need to change names cuz there’s no way I want Beachie and her rep to get back to them….and thus, this whole conversation needs to be nixed so the association can’t be made. DDC, I need you again, my dear…

I dunno.
He was using opposites, I like rhyming. We all have our own agenda. You’re just caught in the middle.

just a quick FYI to those who’ve sent emails (and those who are still doing so) :
A) thank you
B) I’ll be responding, but probably not until this evening
C) something about cutting a hole in the box

One thing DDC didn't mention
You actually get to start out with this training ban-hammer:

Definitely one of the main perks.

My first ban hammer!
Let me guess, it doesn’t actually ban the person but just stuns them for a day or two?

It’s more like a spanking.

Not a writer
But I am a developer. I actually just started a project last weekend akin to avalanchedb.com, only with finer controls.
Want to know which rookie logged the most ice time in his first year, that WASN’T a d-man? You will be able to find it here.
I love sites like the aforementioned avalanchedb and hockeydb, but I just wanted more. And I was sick of creating spreadsheets to do all of it. I’ll keep you up to date on my progress, but expect it to move at a “Avalanche by the numbers” type pace… ;)
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
can you make it include shiftcharts???
;)

I would love to contribute, but I can’t really commit. Ill have to stick with the occasional FanPost.
Thanks Joe...
and do keep those fanposts coming, folks. we’ve had some brilliant fanposts contributions here. even if you aren’t able to apply here, I hope you know that fanposts are a viable option for every MHH member.

I have to say
I’m on here a couple of times a day and its sometimes hard to keep up with everything. Not sure you need more unless you are getting burned out. That being said, I will always try to make more time for more hockey.
Get rid of the loser point
09-10 Avs- YMMV
This week has been good since I’m on a break from school, but I’ll be back in the books the first week of January. As the season drags on, we need at least another writer or contributor to add comment where we can’t.
Besides, another voice besides the monotone of me and David can’t hurt.
Mile High Hockey: Hoping for the best, expecting the worst, hating the Wings.
If it was once a post once a week....
I’d be all for it. Unfortunately I know I can’t be counted on to post on a regular basis. I can hardly keep up with my own blog which is basically just my own thoughts about …stuff and stuff.
I should never be taken seriously.... Seriously!
