Tonight Around The League
Even when the Avs don't play, there are still other teams playing that can change the Avs' position in the standings. During these breaks, many of us might be Jones'in for hockey. There are other games we can follow that will help the Avs in the standings.
Thursday December 17
Dallas at Atlanta - While the Stars are not very close to the Avs in the standings right now, an additional loss here to the struggling Stars (3-3-4 in last 10) would increase the Avs buffer.
Phoenix at Columbus - Phoenix has been good lately (7-2-1 in L10) and has climbed back into a playoff position. They are only 2 points behind the Avs. A Columbus victory here would give the Avs a little breathing room and might make the Jackets less hungry for their match up on Saturday at The Can.
Mild at Montreal - Go Habs Go!
Tampa Bay at Detoilet- No brainer here. Detroit should lose 82 games a season.
Nashville at Edmonton - The Predators are 1 point behind the Avs and we have 10 on the Oilers. Should the Avs lose their seat atop the NW, they could be passed by the Preds. Go Oil!
Anaheim at San Jose - The Sharks have one more point than the Avs, but are currently seated lower since the Avs have the NW crown. The Ducks have won their last 2, and can hopefully deal a loss to the Sharks tonight.
LA at Flame-Outs - Critical game for Avalanche Country. If Calgary wins, we lose the NW crown. LA has been smoking hot lately (8-1-1 in L10) and did manage a victory over the Flames the last time they meet on Dec 7. An OTL is okay (but not preferred) since the Avs currently have 2 points on the Flames. The 'Most Games Played' torch will be passed to the Kings tonight as they play their 37th game of the season. As motivation, the Kings can take 1st in the league with a victory tonight.

You changed my mind about
Edmonton. Time to reign in the dogs!
So who am I supposed to root for in the Kings/Flames game this time? I blame myself for the OT loser point deal last time cuz I was in flux. I’m assuming the Kings, right?
You mean the Avs aren't going to get the top draft pick this summer???

Absolutely
A Flames win tonight would be devastating to the Avs. While the standings are not too important at this point in the season, we want bragging rights to be #1 in the division :)

OK, I’m like you. Stayed up late to watch the Ducks pull one out like against the Canuckleheads.
I, perhaps more than any other here, desperately want the Avs to beat out the Flameouts. If for no other reason than to keep my Calgarian brother in law’s mouth shut over the holidays!

You know, like, we watched the, like, Ducks pull one out, like, against the, like, Canukleheads or something…

If by unfortunate events the fLames do regain the NW #1 spot, you can simple remind him that the fLames are 0-3-0 against the Avs this season, have been outscored 9-6, and have no chance of winning the season series.
Though I understand the desire for the Avs also maintain the Division lead.

This is off to a horrible start.

Very true;
Detoilet 3-0 Tampa
Coyotes 2-1 BJ’s in SO (3pt game)
Dallas 5-6 Atlanta (Dallas still gets a point)
Minny 3-1 Habs
In 1st intermission Nashville 3-2 Edmonton
fLames 1-0 Queens

From first in the NW

The standings sure can change fast.
Go Avs!
Dammit
Maybe this post jinxed us. My bad.
