If you have to rob Peter to pay Paul, there's not a good reason to make this deal. So what's the most likely landing spot if the Thrashers decide to move Kovy? Bet on Colorado.

ESPN has a rumor on Insider (which I don’t have, so I haven’t read more than the headline) about Kovalchuck to the Avs as well. Just thought I’d post this. It’s gaining steam.

It would be sweet, but do we really want to give up what it would take for a 3-month rental of a $9M player? I dunno.

Thoughts?

No. It would destroy our prospect pool, and we’d lose a bunch of young talent. Wait until he’s a free agent or live without him, I say.

Forever grateful that Joe Sakic isn't a douche bag like Brett Favre.

A guy I respect says that Col is the likely destination as well.

I want to know what it would cost Colorado? He maybe a great offensive player, but there has also been questions about the defensive side of his game.

…Kovalchuk has far more jam than the Thrill, and he’ll actually battle for possession, but they share a lack of commitment to the defensive side of the game….

This team was hurt before by trading away young guys late in the season for “stars” in the final months of contracts with the hopes of a Cup win; only to see the team not win the cup and the “star” sign with another team during the off season. Unless there was some way to be sure he would sign with the Avs, with out them having to pay 8-9 mil per, I’d wait until the off season to go after him.
