So I got a disconcerting email last night from a friend of mine. It was one of those things that makes you think, "Damn, George Orwell knew what the hell he was talking about. Big Brother is not a stupid reality TV show; it is reality."
Some of the employers to which I plan to apply do that whole "internet check" thing. You know...that's where they have people who go online to specifically see if they can find dirt on potential employees. What they find can determine your employability. I'm sure you can imagine what would happen to my application if they found Beachie. Maybe it wouldn't matter, but maybe it would. I can't take that chance...because of that latter statement.
Thus, I am bidding you all farewell and sending Beachie away to the underworld where she can injure groins with fervor. The account will be deleted by sometime next week, so if you want to keep in touch, just send me an email to the address listed on my profile. For those already on Facebook with me, you should have seen the update that I'll be axing that account as well. Those Greece pics are enough to do me in. lol. You can email me there or here. Myspace folks? Yah, that's dust already.
Anyway, I'll still be around, reading up on you crazy kids. I just won't be posting. I love ya'll deeply, but I love having a home, food, and transportation more. Call me insane.

Teaching jobs can be hard to get because of the political nature of hiring – so I wish you well. And, I totally understand the need to lay low with the internet stuff.

I’m sure you can imagine what would happen to my application if they found Beachie. Maybe it wouldn’t matter, but maybe it would. I can’t take that chance…because of that latter statement.
This, and this alone, is the sole reason I try so hard to stay anonymous in everything online.
That said.. I hope you create a new “anonymous” account that can stays in touch and visits the site. Good luck with the job search.

stuff like this really bothers me. For such a diverse country, we’re really fucking puritan. I get the need to investigate prospective (or, at times, even current) employees and, yes, some professions do require a certain level of public vetting. But some of this “research” feels almost Gestapo-like for me.
Hyphens cause writers more trouble than any other form of punctuation, except perhaps commas.

In all seriousness I agree with you. Instead of government big-brother it almost feels like corporate big brother at times. They have my phone number, my cell number, my address, and by looking at my facebook they could even know all my hobbies and pretty much everything about me. It’s kinda creepy.

I do make a habit of researching prospective hires on the Internet, but rarely if ever will I disqualify them based on what (if anything) I find. Gratuitous amounts of pictures involving alcohol abuse and/or public drunkeness are not viewed favorably, though.
Aside from that, I understand that we’re all adults here, and dirty words or periodically tasteless humor is what we all do.

Nothing will be the same without ya Beachie. But I totally understand. Doing news, I know how badly Facebook and the like can get you in trouble…even when it’s just a misunderstanding. Good move though. We will miss you!

I understand your reasoning for this I have never posted pictures of me drinking or any other behaviors that may be seen as “bad” by prospective employees of Facebook. When others have, I have either asked them to remove it or untag me. It’s a scary world we live in were your (innocent enough) behavior outside of work can be detrimental to how prospective employees see you.

actually, for the most part i meant in general, “girls night out” sort of thing. you know, the “if it’s just us girls, think of all the trouble we could get into!” as for the game, that kind of fun will happen even with – and probably more likely because of – this wondrous group of men that will be along. You all know how easily Beachie is to influence. ; – ) and then there’s just wondering if we really want to subject him to the giggly “look how yummy quincey looks tonight” and “oooooh hot pocket” and “it’s a damn good thing radar’s legal” that will be going on in the actual seats. this was in no way about the group in general, or you, bubs and horbs specifically, my love! that part i am THRILLED about!!! (but then you knew that, right?)

I don’t get it. First of all, even if you delete the account, the posts are still in the archives and google-able.
Second…how would this account get traced back to you?
Third…would you want to work for an employer who might fire you if they found out you loved the Avs?

First, the posts are still in the archives but the link to the user name will go to a “This user no longer exists” page, so it can’t be traced back to the BeachNSnowGirl account just to the name.
Second, if that account remained, it could get traced back to me because I used an email address that is associated with my main email account that I use for everything and has my real information with it. You know how some internet providers give you 10 email addresses with your account? Well, I used one of those email addresses for this (and all my other online communities/identities like this.) Once I delete all those profiles, that email address will also be deleted to make it even harder to trace anything back to me.
Third, they wouldn’t fire me. It’s an issue of not hiring me because of the image Beachie puts out there (most notably the sexual aspects). If the clients of that job were to discover Beachie, it would be a very, very, VERY bad thing given who the clients are. (And tho I realize most of you know who those clients are and, if not, it could easily be tracked down, I would like to keep that part out of this thread, please.)

As a long time reader of this blog, yet short term poster (I can’t improve on perfection :) ) can I just say that the place really won’t be the same without you. I think it is awful that you have to go to extreme measures over what is harmless fun.
I cancelled my Facebook account for the same reason, so I understand your reasoning behind leaving this board.
Good luck with job hunting and I hope you can return to this board soon.

I forget to lock messages that I need and then erase my inbox cuz I’m tired of seeing the warning. I was trying to send Christmas Presents last week and had to have my guy text me 2 addresses 3 times cuz I kept losing them. MAybe that will convince him to get me a new phone for Christmas?
