Welcome back. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas (or whatever yesterday was in your household). I had a terrific day myself, and we're having family over today for Christmas II: Electric Boogaloo. And, as an added bonus, hockey is back!
The Avalanche host the Dallas Stars tonight, the first time this year that the teams have faced each other. Surprisingly, the Avs were 2-0-2 against Dallas last year.
Many of the names on the Stars are familiar to us: Turco, Modano, Richards, Morrow, Lehtinen. They even have Karlis Skrastins on defense. But Dallas also has a couple of youngsters that have become key contributors to the club in Loui Eriksson and James Neal. Those two are 2nd and 3rd on the team in scoring with 35 and 32 points respectively and Eriksson is on an 8-game point streak. Dallas has Trever Daley and Mark Fistric out on IR. Turco is questionable (flu) as is Slayer fan Jere Lehtinen, who has missed the last two games with a groin injury. If Turco doesn't go, Alex Auld will be his replacement and he's played well this year.
It's Adam Deadmarsh night tonight at the Pepsi Center. No word yet from the Avs (or Dater), but I'd guess Craig Anderson will be between the pipes. The Avs had 3 days off after that brutal loss to Anaheim and after tonight they'll have another 3-day break. They'll need a better effort than they got on Tuesday; perhaps the rest will have helped?
Enjoy your Boxing Day, everyone!

Thanks!!
A girl I work with ended up with tickets that she couldn’t use, so I’m taking my nephew and headed down the mountain this afternoon. Conner is super excited!!
He’s headed off to college soon and far away from old Aunt Rachel, then who will take him to games?

She’s only taking him cuz I didn’t have the money to fly out there today to go. Don’t let her facade of auntie-generosity fool you. She totally asked me first. =P

Don’t tell him that!! He might be slightly offended. And in all fairness. I really offered it to Rich first. You were a very close second!! only because Rich wouldn’t have had to travel to come with me.

I'll ask the same question here that I did in my game preview...
Which Colorado team will show up tonight, the one that was kicking ass and taking names before the Ducks game, or the Avs that played mediocre throughout the entire Anaheim game, was lucky to have a lead, and then just gave up with less than 10 to go?
Mile High Mayhem just another ho-hum Avs blog.
No offense guys, but I’m a little worried about winning this one…as that means a probably loss to the Wings on New Years Eve. You know the whole “can’t win three in a row” thing. Hopefully, this will be an anomaly game since it’s sandwiched between so many days off and will be like the high and low of a data pool: thrown out for good measure. That would mean the next two games after this will be wins, according to the roller coaster ride that is the Avalanche experience. Thus…Les Ailes go down in flames like their town.

The Rolloer coaster doesn't apply here.
Les Ailes just cannot beat us this year, thus the rest of it doesn’t matter so much.

Yeah, wearing them against the Wings is odd scheduling. And I think that Devils game is Claude Lemieux alumni night, so I’ll probably end up having to go to that one.
maybe claude could sing the national anthem and do his ice dancing routine during an intermission. that would freak out the wings enough to daze them into a loss despite the unismurfberryforms.

I hear ya. I probably wouldn’t fly out as much as I do (two or three times per year) if I didn’t have family there. I also love snowboarding so there’s that too. This year, tho, I was the lucky recipient to the generosity of gl avfan’s friend and will be there for job hunting anyway. So there are two of the trips. It will be extremely hard to resist not going out for playoffs. I went for the first round v. the wild in ’08 and it was SO much fun. got to see the game 5 melt down. ahhhhh, good times!

I don’t believe Liles is going to sit the bench and Clark play. I do think a change with Wilson would do Liles some good, and it might even help Radar’s game too (hasn’t Radar been playing back a bit to shore up the defensive problems when Clark is out, or is that just my imagination).
Colorado Avalanche: Please excuse the mess while we are under construction.
he’s been out there with the liles/clark line A LOT which is why his offensive numbers are way down. so, yeah, to answer your question.

I am all for this. Hell, at this point I’d rather see Peltier than Clark. I don’t really think there’s any way Sacco sits Clark, though. If it hasn’t happened yet, I don’t think it’s especially likely. Plus, if they’re smart, they’re trying to trade him for whatever they can get for him, and his value goes way down if he’s a healthy scratch every night.
Well, as much as it’s possible for Brett Clark to be worth less, I suppose.
I hope they don’t send Wilson back down. He has been playing solidly and deserves to stay. I guess we can just hope for a quick trade.
Colorado Avalanche: Please excuse the mess while we are under construction.
He’s had a few bad giveaways the last few games, but he has the excuse of being a rookie. Brett Clark is Brett Clark, he’s not going to improve. He’s not solid enough defensively to be a defensive defenseman, and he’s not talented enough offensively to be a real threat in the offensive zone. His two skills are blocking shots and skating the puck out of the zone, and that’s not enough to keep him in the lineup over someone like Cumiskey.
With that said, playing him with Liles isn’t doing him any favors. They’re our two worst defensive d-men, so playing them in the same pairing is a little odd. Liles has value because he can put up points, but it nullifies some of that value when he’s paired with Clark since then if he jumps up into the play, Brett Clark is back on defense. I’d be much more comfortable sticking him with Hannan.
Then Clark can be paired with the press box buffet.
if he jumps up into the play, Brett Clark is back on defense.
this has been my observation as well, and i think it has affected more than just his offensive presence. it’s made him timid all around.

Speaking of Boxing Day, I lived in England one year, and my bro and his friends came out for Christmas. After spending Christmas wandering totally empty streets (I think we found one totally shady pub open), we got so snockered at one of the five semi-shady pubs open on Boxing day that we barely found our way back to the b&b. Damn, that was a fun trip.

is it still “not in the christmas spirit” given that it’s no longer christmas if i do something not so nice (like throw a bunch of water on not so nice, not harm or maim not so nice) to the neighbor’s small annoying dog cuz it keeps barking non-stop? i’m really, truly not happy about this situation, especially since i cannot close the back door all the way to shut out the noise cuz i’ve got a dog door for my nice and quiet and obedient Labrador retriever. i’m very close to going scrooge on the situation anyway….boxing day or no boxing day.

or that their owners don’t care whatsoever about their neighbors and think there’s no reason at all to train the damn things. my dog is so well trained that i don’t need a leash. we could walk by a tennis ball that was sitting next to a bowl of steak right next to a puppy that was splashing around in a lake and if i told her to ignore it and keep walking, she would. (and if you know anything about labs, you know i just described heaven to one — and hell to have to ignore it)
