Durno sent down; Mercier recalled.
I'm not sure that anyone else caught this; I didn't see any mention of it. But, it looks like Chris Durno was sent down to Lake Erie and Justin Mercier was recalled. I wonder if this has more to do with getting Lake Erie one of their leading scorers back or getting a look at Mercier. I guess we'll find out if we actually see Mercier in uniform.
Also, Adrian Dater has a semi-update on Anderson from which we can surmise that Peter Budaj will again be starting against the Wild tonight. Game nationally televised on Versus!

Generally, the Avs are one of the better teams in the NHL when it comes to disclosure about injuries – AD
Best quote ever.
Honestly, it's true
I don’t think we’ve ever been subjected to the “lower body injury” crap. They tell what it is. The Avs problem is disclosing the timeline (or perhaps figuring out the timeline?).
"I intend to kick your ass today." - Denver Broncos legend Tom Jackson
Given the acumen of the training staff to date,
I’m not entirely sure that Andy’s head didn’t fall completely off. Perhaps they haven’t been able to find it yet?

Avs trainers biggest problem
Figuring out how the head connects to the foot.
I need a new sig, since i think I cursed ORLY by promoting him.
Easy,
When I put my foot in their ass, I’ll inevitably hit their head too.

I’m a little disappointed to see Durno go down. I think he’s just the right fit on the 4th line (or, frankly on the 3rd – I’m looking at you Darcy Tucker). If, however, they insist on “playing” the StayPuff Marshmallow Man that is David Koci, I’d rather see Durno skate than sit. I’ll be interested to see Mercier skate in a “real” game and hope he is given ample chance to do so.

Its about the right time in the season to give some of the other kids in Lake Erie a chance to get in a little seasoning in the NHL when there are openings on the roster. Durno’s done a nice job, and I imagine we’ll see him again down the stretch if the Avs are battling for playoff seeding and maturity and reliability become more important.

im excited
I really liked Mercier in the camp I saw him. speed, nice shot, and really hustled a ton. he’s going to be a great fit in the bottom 6 here, imo. I’d really like to see him stick.
Durno got sent down because he took bad penalties, I think. I liked his hustle and size, but you simply can’t have 4th liners taking bad penalties like that.
I’m interested to see Mercier (and some of the other guys in LE as well), but I don’t recall Durno taking a great # of penalties (not saying that I just didn’t miss them). Looks like he has 4 minors in 9 games. One holding against PIT and one tripping against EDM in his last 5 games.
No matter, I guess. I just really hate to see the Avs continue to make mincemeat out of their own 4th line by skating guys who can’t skate (or fight for that matter). I truly think that this is one of the contributing factors to our lousy 3rd periods. If you’re skating 3 lines (and some change) and the other team is skating 4, its going to start to show later in the game.

i don’t think it was the overall number of penalties, just the stupidity of them.
Mercier can skate. I hope he’s part of the solution to this 3 lines issue.
I dunno – he had just 1 penalty in his last 4 games. holding penalty against Pit. don’t recall it, to be honest

Surprised to see Mercier recalled at this point. He has one point in 24 games. I realize points aren’t everything, but you would like to see more offensive production before such a recall.

I assume that they needed to send a message to Durno, as opposed to rewarding Merc with a callup. Altho I would have assumed they’d snag Stoa instead… hmmm…
Thanks Joe...
Yeah, just kind of a surprise, but I hope he does well (assuming he plays).

Stoa
…is only starting to do well and scoring in the minors. It’s probably not a good idea for his development to throw him to the wolves now, considering he is just starting find his familiarity in the AHL.
I spent more effort eating a pudding than Tyler Arnason skated last year.
Yep, Stoa’s starting to produce with Hensick and Haydar on his line. Fun line to watch too!

As a Miami grad, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mercier!
I hope he plays well for you guys.
I must have this thing for hockey boys from Whitby with the initials JN.
