Forsberg (probably) retiring

Peter Forsberg has had another setback in Sweden and could be on the verge of announcing his retirement from hockey.
Forsberg was scheduled to play for Modo of the Swedish Elite League on Tuesday but did not dress. His foot problems re-occurred on Saturday and now Forsberg must decide on his next step. "I don't know what to do. I can't play if I don't feel 100 percent. . . . I don't know what happens now. I have to check if there is some last thing we can do to fix the problem," Forsberg said after the second period of Modo's game on Tuesday. "I am not that surprised. It has happened before and I was prepared for it this time as well. It seems impossible to fix the problem. I have tried it all." It looks like the end of the line for Forsberg.

When he missed game one against the Wings last year
I thought it might be over. That was sooooooooo disappointing. I honestly think the Avs had a chance in Detroit until that happened. Then the chips really started to fall.
Dammit anyway. One of the few players I have ever seen who created an audible buzz almost every time he was on the ice in any arena. I heard it in the visiting arena in Vancouver a few times too. He just kept doing things that made people look out there and go “How in the f*ck did he do that?” I know Super Joe has been the face of the franchise and played bigger roles in the two cup runs. And Patrick was probably the greatest goaltender of all-time. However, somehow Forsberg captured the hearts and imaginations of the fans here so much more. I remember one DP poll asking about favorite teams and athletes in the area (after Elway retired). Forsberg won by a mile.
If this is it, I’m glad we at least got to enjoy one more display of greatness last season before it was over. It was just right that he ended his NHL career with the Avs. And PL can go f*ck himself for lowballing him and letting him walk before signing Turgeon and Brisebois. I wonder how much that move alone set this franchise back?

Well said
When Forsberg and Foote left, the franchise took a huge hit. What a slap in the face. I am glad that both have been back since, and Forsberg deserves to have his career end with the Avs.
How do you think that #21 will look in the rafters?
I remember last year, when I heard he was coming back for sure, I felt that old Avalanche magic again. That hope and excitement that the Avs can and will win every night, and make a cup run. He will be missed, but not forgotten. I just hope that FG knows what he is doing to try and get that feeling back. Unfortunately I think it will take a while…
Remember when Mike Haynes screamed:
PETER THE GREAT!!!!
PETER THE GREAT!!!!
PETER … THE … GREAT!!!
That says it all.
GO AVS!!!

Hall of famer and one of the best players to ever play ever. Unfortunately his style of play didn’t lend itself to a long career.

In a word
This sucks. In more words, he’s my favorite player of all time. That being said, it’s not like its a huge surprise. I agree with bob, letting forsberg go was quite possibly the stupidest thing the avs have ever done. Cap or no cap, they should have found a way to keep him.
