Season Over For Jones & Cumiskey

Jones_medium

Sad news from Avalancheland today: David Jones and Kyle Cumiskey are both done for the year following shoulder surgeries. It's a tough break for two good, young players and hopefully the injuries and lost playing time doesn't hinder their development.

Bummer. I still really like Jones’ upside. I just hope that this doesn’t hinder the Avs if they decide to become sellers. Which they still should, imo.

What a bummer dude

unfortunately this just makes it harder to keep Tucker/Arnason on the bench.

If we lose any more defense-men who’s next in the pipe line behind Cumiskey?

Easy solution: Make Arnason the new D-guy.

This will probably be a MHH story or post by tomorrow, but for now I'll add it here...

The Avs put Liles on IR and recalled Darcy Campbell. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3920218

Avs move talented D Liles to IR
Associated Press

DENVER — The Colorado Avalanche recalled defenseman Darcy Campbell from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League on Thursday, and placed defenseman John-Michael Liles on injured reserve because of a wrist injury.

The Avalanche acquired Campbell from Columbus in January 2008.

The 24-year-old Campbell has played one NHL game, making his debut for the Blue Jackets on March 30, 2007, at Chicago.

If the season is in the tank

I think the Avs should bring up Nigel Williams or even bring over Montgomery as a #7 to give them some NHL experience. That is, once we know the playoffs are out of reach.

The organization

would have to admit it was over in order to bring those guys up…even if they believe that, I doubt they admit it.

this season just hates us, man. I still like both of these players. Jones could be a decent 2nd liner if he ever gains a scoring touch, but even if he doesn’t he’s a killer 3rd liner. I’m a big big fan of Jones.

I like Cumiskey as a bottom pairing guy too. He’s a pretty good defender and that speed is just so tantalizing. If only he could put his other skills in line with that…

At any rate, both will be players next year, mark my words.
