the Altiboobs mentioned that the players are complaining about the ice in Atlanta.
As mentioned in a fanpost the circus was in town and the ice was not put down until today. Watch for some crazy bounces and some bad passes in tonight’s game.

As if Raycroft is any better. You realize they have the same SV% .898 and the GAA isn’t that different. Budaj 2.95, Raycroft 2.99.
I’d say the defense has to share the blame in this…but that’s been debated to death already.

No Arnie or Hensick tonight against the Thrash. Healthy scratches. There is ice in front of me as I sit high above it, with a few friends and close relatives of players in the stands and that’s about it.
Lots of rumors flying around tonight. I don’t normally indulge in a lot of "Let’s make up a bunch and hope one of them sticks, then go around claiming we’re a good reporter, while ignoring the 99 we got wrong" type of stuff like many others do. But, hey, it’s getting near deadline time, so let’s trot out a couple I’ve been hearing tonight:
Rumor is the Avs are going to be involved a big, multi-player deal involving an eastern team real soon. Boston or Pittsburgh are the runaway favorite teams said to be likely to be involved.
Could Jordan Staal become an Av? Could be. Could Ryan Whitney? Could be. Could Manny Fernandez? Could be. Could a couple of first-round picks be coming Colorado’s way, along with any of the above players, for someone like Ryan Smyth and/or Jordan Leopold? Could be.
The thing with trades is, most of the time, not even the GMs know if they’re going to happen or not right until the last second. I know that sounds sort of "No duh", but there are just always all kinds of possibilities in front of a GM, and it comes down to the last minute very often, and they don’t know what they’re going to do until then.
So, we’re just going to have to see still. But this is some of what I’m hearing here in lonely Atlanta.
By the time I took to set up this post, the Thrash have scored two goals on two shots against Boods. Good start there boys.

haha, im not quite there yet… yearning for andy ray. mostly it just makes me long for someone thats reliable all the time. that being said, budaj is just too shaky sometimes. he can be so dam sharp on some saves and completely muff it later. i dont get it.
yea I used to think he would get it together but hes had his chance, its time to move on. Get someone else and keep Raycroft as the backup
i still think that raycroft could be a decent starter. lets say that i feel about raycroft the way i did about boods at this time last year. if he pulls himself together he could be a starter. if not, he could be a good backup. but what we are doing now isnt working.

God what an awful game, especially defensively.
You ever notice that even in games where the avs give up 5 goals, There’s stretches where the goalie still has to make 10 big saves on quality scoring chances?
That’s exactly how tonights game has been. Budaj hasn’t been great, but there have been breakaways, and quality chances abound. I mean 50% of the shots on Budaj have been dangerous.
<>That’s what I’ve been talking about all season when I’ve said the defense has been crap, resulting in both Raycroft and Budaj having poor save %‘s. No they haven’t been good, but god god has the defense been awful, tonight is no exception.

Seriously, it’s just so frustrating to watch people say “If we just ad a number one goalie”. No “If we just had a coach that understood what a defensive scheme is, and how to tell defenders to rotate positions and pick up guys and get sticks in scoring lanes”.
On the Reasoner goal earlier Leopold made a perfect screen against Budaj, without even trying to get in Reasoner’s way. I’ll give Wolski a little break, because he’s not a defender, but Kovalchuk got his tip with no one within 10 feet of him. Jesus that’s just awful.

when the Avs keep the puck in the offensive zone there is a lot of passing and little or no shooting. When the other team does it the goalie is getting peppered.

Imagine
getting to prove yourself as a No. 1 goalie with this defense. I know, he hasn’t been that great, but really , the pressure of trying to do that with The.Worst.Avs.Team.Ever combined with a media and fan base ready to pounce on him, it just seems like a pretty impossible task.

By the way I like Doc’s idea of trying to get Lehtonen away from the Thrashers. He’s had injury problems, but I’d be okay with Buday backing him up. And his injuries have been kind of freakish.
ATL is kinda overflowing with decent goalies too.

For gods sake Hejduk-Stastny-Smyth-Wolski-Salei. That’s a damn fine pp (in theory) but the coaching behind it is awful.
