Lappy Wearing Beige?
I don't know if I can say it any better than my peers, Jibbles & Shane.
Not just no, but hell no.
Props to From the Point for getting this up in a FanShot.

After this quote from Granato:
Avs coach Tony Granato knows the tough situation his team is in. After the loss at Atlanta on Tuesday night, he was asked if he’s monitoring his players’ “battle level” in tough times. Those who aren’t showing a high level could find themselves in another uniform next season.
“You want to see guys compete from the start of the season through the end, and especially when times get tough,” Granato said. “That’s what you’re looking for. You’re looking for character, for players you want to go to battle with and will battle through tough times. That’s what character is, and that’s what this organization is all about, is winning.”
Is Granato seeing enough of that from his players?
“I’ve seen it the last seven games,” he said. “I’m not going to question guys’ effort level. We’ve got a group of men who compete hard. Sometimes we don’t compete smart, or execute like we need to in certain situations. But they compete and they work.”
What guy answers that call better than Lappy? The guy blocks two shots against Carolina and has to be helped off the ice, only to come back and battle through another 40:00. Then he goes out and does it again against Atlanta.
One thing Foote noticed, after the Avs got down 2-0 in the first couple minutes of Tuesday’s game, was how some teammates seemed to sag mentally. This is something he hopes to change with more veteran wisdom.
“We got behind quick, and gave their guys confidence and took a couple of our guys out of the game,” Foote said. “When that happens, we’re going to have to realize we have to fight back. When we have leads, we’re real strong (18-0-0 after two periods), but we’re not always going to have leads. We just have to stay focused.”
Do you ever see Lappy get down? He’s usually the guy Granato puts out on the ice after a let down to try and get the team going again. Why does Granato continue to start the Lappy line (IBC line)? As stated during the Atlanta game, it’s because Granato wants them to set the tone for the game.
Why, oh why would we ever want to re-sign this guy?
MHH: Like the Avs organization, we’ve now officially lost our minds.

obviously they should resign him, but if detroit’s willing to overpay and send brendan smith or Daniel Larsson then you’d have to listen.

Great picture of Lappy
That is one of my favorite pics of Lappy. Isn’t this the celebration that he later commented on saying “I had a little too much butter on my toast”?
I printed this one out, got him to sign it and it is up in my office.

JC
AD better just be trying to drum up hits for his blog post. Up until now I have never said seriously that I would stop watching the avs or suffer any loss in my fandom. But this would be like brunette and may all rolled into one, and that’s a tough pill to swallow. I might have to turn the give-a-shit meter to 0 til FG was gone.
Get rid of the loser point
08-09 Avs- can we decline the penalty?

Um
Let me see if I have the straight. First, Dater poses a really stupid question to the fan base: “Should the Avs trade their fan favorite?” Of course people respond, blog traffic goes up (which is necessary now that there is no Forsberg news) and all is well. Then Dater, after seeing the rise in traffic, posts “Lappy to the Wings!”. Dater has joined Eklund and Bruce “Malkin to the Kings” Garrioch this season in being the worst trade crap pushers on the nets.
What’s next? Budaj is headed back to Slovakia?

Yes, that is very probably where Boods is headed...

my son
will be devastated if that happens :(
I bet you guys didn’t know that the curse of St. Patrick also extends to 8-year-old little boys who want their hero to be an Avalanche goalie who retires with the team. We were at a game in 2007 and my son took one look at Boods and said “I want to play hockey. I want to be a goalie just like Peter Budaj.” That moment has transformed his life. Hockey has changed him. He hangs out in his goalie gear at home an practices for hours. It has changed his work ethic, his thoughts about college (he wants to play in college), his loyalty to teammates, etc. Hockey is the one sport that I think has a huge heart and that is what my son is getting out of it.
We were at a game and he saw Roy’s number hanging up at The Can. He asked me “Do you think they will put Budaj’s number up there.” Ouch!
For all the inspiration Budaj has given my son, I truly hope things turn around for him; sort of my goofy way of wanting to somehow pay it forward to him.

I’m pretty much the same as your kid, except It was Roy that inspired me to be a goalie but I’ve always liked the Avs goalies like Abby and Boods, not so much Theo, and was pretty upset when i read Abby was traded for theo at school. I’d love for Boods to retire an Av and have his jersey raised but I’ve realized it’s not gonna happen. For whatever reason, whether it’s the piss poor defense that hangs him out to dry consistently, the pressure of being a goalie for the Avs, the poor coaching or whatever it is I don’t think he’ll ever have success in a unipron. i’d like to see him traded to a team where he gets a fair shot at #1 with a defense that knows what to do and without the pressure of all the fans and media expecting him to be the next great one. I believe he has the ability, work ethic and mentality to be a starting goalie, he just needs a team that will help him. And that team is sadly not the Avs.

An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.

Thanks guys!
and for the record, my son hated Theo. He took one look at a picture of him and said “The guy’s a bum.” Pretty astute for a 6 year old.

Difference
I think there’s a major difference between Eklund/Garrioch and Dater.
The Master Beater’s reporting is limited to mentioning who he knows is scouting (Red Wings, Bruins, Pens). He also has sources that tell him who teams are talking about. As long as he really has these sources (and I don’t doubt that he does) everything here is ok. He then follows up with those facts with his speculation. I think he makes the line between speculation and fact pretty clear. He didn’t post “Lappy to the Wings!” he posted “The Wings are interested in Lappy”. Big difference.
Eklund asks people to pay for his “rumors” which he advertises as rumors from valid sources, but are really 95% made up, and from message boards, thin air, and his ass etc.
Garrioch is different because he speculates on trades that are so monumentally absurd that they aren’t even worth talking about, and then justifies it with even sillier logic. Like when He said the Avs would dump Smyth to Montreal for nearly nothing because they were looking to shed salary.

I’m not going to argue with your logic here. I will say Dater has used his blog to try and sell newspapers, you don’t have to pay to read Eklund’s crap, only to have “full access” to his crap, and seriously? Trading Lappy to the Wings would be “monumentally absurd”, as you put it. No, I don’t trust that Dater has reliable sources. He has been reporting trade rumors all season long and nothing has happened. That is the point I was making, albeit it dramatically. Oh and the “Lappy to the Wings” was me being dramatic as well.

He’s been reporting trade rumors all season long because there have been trade rumors all season long. Lots of those rumors don’t come to fruition, but that’s just the nature of the game. I, for one, am glad he shares them

Assume
I assume he’s heard “Master Dater” since about 1st grade or so, so I thought Master Beater would be at least an original take on that whole meme
