Today In Colorado Avalanche History

February 28, 1999 - The Colorado Avalanche acquire forwards Theo Fleury and Chris Dingman from the Calgary flames for Rene Corbet, Wade Belak, a 2000 2nd round pick (Jarret Stoll) and future considerations (Robyn Regehr). This was a big deadline deal for the Avs (Fleury already had 30 goals on the season). And Fleury played well, with 24 points over the final 15 regular season games and 17 points in 18 playoff games, although the Avalanche lost to Dallas in the Conference Finals. Perhaps already seeing some warning signs of off-ice issues (Fleury missed a playoff game due to the "flu"), the Avs did not re-sign Fleury the following summer.

I loved Theo
but looking back on the guys involved in that trade, or more likely what became of the picks and consideration, Stoll and Regehr I have to shake my head and ask was it worth it? Would we have kept Regehr, or drafted Stoll? Who knows, but it’s another reminder of what is now hurting this team. The trading of picks and prospects for a rental player who may or may not have made an impact in a cup run.
Hindsight is always 20/20 though.
MHH: Like the Avs organization, we’ve now officially lost our minds.
I'm The Canary - but I'm not cute nor cuddly, and I don't sing.
