Foppa to announce NHL Retirement Tonight?
Dater is speculating this in his latest blog entry.
Just learned from a reliable source that Peter Forsberg, along with his parents, are in Denver right now and that Forsberg will “make an announcement” at the Avs-Wings game tonight.
That announcement is expected to be that he will officially retire from the NHL.
I'll be there, will have to wear one of my Foppa jerseys now just in case. And I need four more words. There.
UPDATE: False alarm, it seems. AD took down the entry and replaced it with the following:
Sorry for the false alarm folks. No Forsberg retirement announcement here tonight. While a retirement is likely to be official at some point soon, it won’t be tonight at the Avs-Wings game.
I'm taking this off the front page for now.

this completely bums me out

My voice is fried
Getting over some sort of crud. Now, in addition to being disappointed at not being able to yell “pleasantrys” at wings and their fans, I also won’t be able to cheer on Foppa like I would want to for his permanent sendoff.
I wonder when they’ll raise his number to the rafters?

Don't say that!
One more year for Joe!

i want Joe and his demands for 6m a year again while playing for 10 games at a low level like I want a hole in the head. he’s done, everyone needs to admit it.
If he doesn’t take a pay cut (he won’t) I have to say I agree. Not that I think he plays at a low level, but he’s not worth 6mil anymore. Suck it up and play for less like yzerman or hang ’em up.
Get rid of the loser point
08-09 Avs- can we decline the penalty?
Less is better
I agree, he should play for less.

I have no problem
with Joe coming back, if it is for less money. He’s had two seasons straight now where he’s missed a substantial amount of time for injuries. It doesn’t do the team much good to have him if he doesn’t play. And paying him at the same time is worse.
MHH: Like the Avs organization, we’ve now officially lost our minds.

awaiting/fearing the trade deadline....
Season Ticket Renewal Invoices
Are due March 9th. I was wondering if the Avs had something up their sleeves to try to entice us to send them in. Even if it were only smoke and mirrors.

Yes
You and your friends are probably correct in your theory.
I’m glad this didn’t happen. It would have saved us, the “fans,” from being embarrassed at the half-assed ovation we were bound to give. We’re lame, couldn’t even get a decent cheer for Claude Lemieux when he came back. A surprise Foppa appearance might have momentarily distracted us from waving our King Soopers cards like a group of happy idiots.
Oh, and Dater’s a douche for that “I never said he would retire for sure” comment, and it’s double-douchery for the Post to remove content from its site.

On Lemieux..
The Can was half empty that night. That being said, the cheers were there, just in an empty arena we couldn’t cheer loud enough to make any noise.
An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.
Now AD has removed his retraction post too
Erasing all tracks, I guess. Sorry to pass on the misinfo, but suredly it would have been big news.

I won’t delete this though.

Not everything gets deleted...
If you have Dater’s blog on your feed you may still have the original posts. That’s how I noticed the other day that Dater changed a post. He put up his “The Final Straw” post with a picture of a drinking straw!
Um, I don’t think that is the straw refered to in the saying. So I comment “Wrong straw!” And he changes it to this the camel picture.

Probably shouldn’t have put the blog up originally, but it never said he would retire for sure. But in the hysteria that is today’s media world, people don’t always read the actual words too carefully.
