Mirtle: Oilers fire MacTavish
I have always thought MacTavish has done a good job in Edmonton and has been at a competitive disadvantage thanks to Kevin Lowe and the Oilers budget for a long time.
I would be extremly happy to see the Avs hire MacTavish, although he is still probably not my "A" choice.

eh, he’s not at the top of my list either. I’d probably rather see Roy here.
But it can’t be worse than TG.
MacT
Him and Vigneult were the top-2 coaches in the division last season, and he’s accomplished quite a bit on an Edmonton team that had at best mediocre talent.
And we have, at best, mediocre talent.

I love MacTavish. His teams actually do play up-tempo, exciting hockey. Plus, he famously “quieted” the stupid Calgary Flames mascot.
From quotes in another article, it looks like the decision was more mutual:
“He gave everything he possibly could to help this team get better,” Tambellini said of MacTavish during a news conference. “But we both agree that it is time for a change.”

I love how MacTavish is outspoken with the media but I’m not sure if the Avs would like that. He doesn’t come across like a yes-man either and it seems the DP keeps saying the Avs prefer yes-men as their employees.
yeah, it wouldn’t play with PL at all. I don’t see it happening, but I think we could do a lot worse than MacTavish. Actually, we already are doing a lot worse.
Hyphens cause writers more trouble than any other form of punctuation, except perhaps commas.

No Thanks
I’ve always thought that MacTavish did a decent job, but it was nothing special. I’d kinda like to see Guy Carbonneau.

i thought that too...
until i read this: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/136878-guy-carbonneau-from-jack-adams-to-fired
that guy is a major fan of his, and even he acknowledges the issue behind the bench: discipline and motivation. i don’t want to touch that with a 10 ft. pole.
Combo
How about bringing in Carbonneau with Roy as an assistant? Roy has been called many things, but soft ain’t one of them. I just don’t think that he’s ready to be HC yet.
