Game 7 third period open thread!
2 games 7's one's in the third, one's almost there... anyone watching. Anyone want to start an open thread for these.
1-1 Caps vs Rangers
3-2 Devils up on Canes.
Canes just blew a PP and a 5 on 3 pp, and couldn't tie it even though Jokinen hit the post.
I NEED CONSTANT COMMUNICATION PEOPLE. PAY ATTENTION TO ME.

I'd love to watch the games
but I have to do so via internet, not tv, and that’s presenting me with a huge problem.
Aha!
found a decent stream. Now I just have to juggle 3 baseball games and hockey…

FYI:
I think Extra Innings is having a free weekend. I was getting a bunch of games when i was looking for the Canes-Devils games.

I have MLB.com Premium Sub
and I watch the Rockies game while balancing various games depending on what’s happening with the guys on my fantasy team. Needless to say, I’m getting rocked.

Defenseman for the Rangers
I’m looking it up now….
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 7:19 PM MDT up reply actions
I'm not totally sure
who I’m rooting for in the Caps-Rangers game.
On one hand, Ovie is awesome and Mike Green is a monster, but the guys at Japers really bummed me out and soured me on rooting for them. First they all voted for Fedorov of Forsberg (wtf????) and then the whole Field Trip thing that turned out to be a sham and they weren’t too cool about it, anyway. Really just makes me want to see them lose.
Hmm
In their defense, I’d be kinda suspicious if a, say, Columbus BJ fan wanted to field trip here. I’d be pretty wary of “Foote Sucks”-type comments. And the Federov pick is a homer pick through and through.
I’m going for the Caps.. I advocated trading for Varlamov at the deadline, I advocated signing Federov in the offseason (god wouldn’t he be an improvement as third line center) I love Ovie, I like some of their role players, like Poti and Kozlov
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 7:21 PM MDT up reply actions
As a team
I have thoroughly enjoyed Caps games this season, but that whole deal at Japers made me dislike the fanbase for the most part. I always have a hard time rooting for a team that will bring joy to people I know I don’t like.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 7:23 PM MDT up reply actions
Understood.
I’ve got a friend here whos a Caps fan, so i’m pulling for him.I’m probably rooting for the winner to take the East.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 7:27 PM MDT up reply actions
lol..........
And Fedorov scores to make it 2-1 Caps with just under 5 minutes to go.

GAME 7!!
i totally forgot it was an early game, i thought it started at 7
Sippin' PBR on a Colorado game day...
WOW
Lundqvist bails out the Rangers.. they still need a goal, but that save could have saved the Rangers season

I don’t care how much you love the dude. That was his dirty Red Wing punk side rearing it’s ugly head.
An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.
The teehee
was because it was against Avery.

Still
Two douchebags don’t make a right (hit). :p

Maybe so
But two douchebags can make a dumb (and overrated) blonde into hockey news.
And Fedorov rules.

I love Baron
but that deal is a no-brainer =p

CAPS WIN CAPS WIN
Lundqvist was the only ranger playing after the Caps scored.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 7:29 PM MDT reply actions
Alright
3rd period.. Canes-Devils (I’m pulling for the Canes)
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 7:31 PM MDT reply actions
bubs
Reminds me that the X-Men Origins movie comes out this week. Sweet.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 7:39 PM MDT up reply actions
Yeah
This series is tough because I really don’t have much of a care for either team, but since Game 7’s are all about picking sides, I’m with Carolina.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 7:32 PM MDT up reply actions
He really isn't.
When Roy played a sizable portion in the more wide-open NHL and Brodeur was the main beneficiary of THE trapping team in the NHL, I really don’t think the two compare. I’d take Roy anyday, but there’s an obvious bias on my part.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 7:35 PM MDT up reply actions
Canes Devils
Has been the best series so far, and it isn’t even close. This has been a classic, and no one has seen it.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 7:34 PM MDT reply actions
It's true
This is the first game of the series I’ve seen.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 7:35 PM MDT up reply actions
Unfortunately
I only got to see the last game, a 4-1 Canes rout. But everything i’ve seen before that (highlights, clips, etc) and it was easily the best series…
Not that it says much this season. The first round has been rather dismal this season.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 7:42 PM MDT up reply actions
Tell you what
the Houston-Peoria series in the AHL was amazing, especially Game 5. All 7 games were closely contested and it was obvious the teams did not like each other at all.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 7:43 PM MDT up reply actions
Oh
Houston did. It was just a great series all-around.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 7:48 PM MDT up reply actions
Definitely.
That was a great sequence. One of his saves looked like it was made with him looking the other way.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 7:52 PM MDT up reply actions
I see your glove save
And raise you a Save on a 2 vs 1.
Great goaltender duel here.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 7:57 PM MDT up reply actions
I think Cam Ward
has really, really big pads, and then I see all the bright white, and I think maybe it’s just the color.
Ward
I’ve always thought he got lucky in his cup run. He never seems to be any good in the season… but he’s good now.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:01 PM MDT up reply actions
I’ve always thought he’s been a top goalie but the Canes defence hasn’t helped him out much, thats my theory based on the 1 or 2 games I’ve seen of him since his cup run. He does seem to step up in the playoffs though
The Savage has spoken. Let it be done
"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference"
R. Frost
Gleason,
I thought that was Brind’amor, either way, what a fantastic goal.
And Staal just ended it. Holy shit.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:08 PM MDT up reply actions
As that happened
I was typing up that I felt for NJ because they would actually have to try to play offense now. Now that’s REALLY true.
Back and forthe
And the Devils are pressuring with 15 seconds left… Jesus christ
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:10 PM MDT reply actions
OMG
That was a fan-fucking-tastic ending. Holy shit, what a fantastic game.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:11 PM MDT reply actions
Wow???
I can’t imagine what the emotional letdown would feel like after leading for so long and having just 1 minute to go until winning the series and just 3-4 minutes in real-time later you’re going home.
Wow.
I’m stunned.
No kidding.
I can’t believe this ending. That’s as amazing as the BU-Miami game in college. Holy hell that Gleason pass from his knees was a saucer pass. Unbelievable play.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:14 PM MDT up reply actions
Seriously!
The BU-Miami game was incredible, too, but this didn’t even hit OT. It just…happened. Gleason was as clutch as clutch gets.
How enormous does Ward’s play coming down the stretch look now?
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 8:16 PM MDT up reply actions
Ward
completely saved that series for the Canes. The Devils should have put it away. I’m just stunned.
I have to turn on the Giants game.. i need something more slow paced, and I don’t care about either team.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:18 PM MDT up reply actions
Me too
I hated them well before I became a Giants fan.
I’ve got an old roomate who is from MAryland, but lived in So Cal for a few years. One day he decided, all of a sudden, he was going to be a So. Cal sports fan. He was all of a sudden a Dodgers, Raiders, USC, and UCLA fan. Even though he used to cheer with us for the Broncos. I don’t hate him, but he’s the biggest bandwagon fan ever, and he is the epitome of all that is wrong with sports…. not coincidentally he cheers for Raiders, Dodgers UCLA, and USC.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:23 PM MDT up reply actions
Wtf?
You can’t be a fan of UCLA AND USC.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 8:25 PM MDT up reply actions
Exactly
Seriously, especially if you lived there. I can see being a fan of two rivals if you grew up liking both not realizing the hatred because you didn’t live there (I liked tOSU and Michigan growing up, because my Dad/Grandad were form Ohio, and mom was from Michigan), but to live there.. experience the rivalry… and like them both. It’s unforgiveable.
So the Dodgers became the symbol of ultimate bandwagondom, and of everything wrong with sports fans.
Fuck, Randy wynn just got thrown out at home because he didn’t try to touch the plate with his foot.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:28 PM MDT up reply actions
The Rockies
are getting shut out by Chad Gaudin and no-name relievers. Typical Rockies.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 8:30 PM MDT up reply actions
Giants
just dropped a pop fly… awesome stuff.
Giants: good pitching
Terrible defense
Terrible hitting
Terrible baserunning.
All that and they still could win the NL West.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:33 PM MDT up reply actions
Division sucks
but the Rockies are still winning it. I believe.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 8:35 PM MDT up reply actions
Hmm
honestly, I think the Dodgers have the best team, but I could easily be wrong.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:36 PM MDT up reply actions
They do
but I can’t stand them, so I’m basically saying “Anybody but them” and I think we have the best team outside of them.
And I’m a homer.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 8:37 PM MDT up reply actions
Understood
I actually thought the Avs could win the NW this year.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:39 PM MDT up reply actions
Hell yes
I seriously thought we were taking it, too. I really can’t wait for this off-season to get going. The draft, FA, as long we make some moves and actually try to improve the team, I’ll be happy. Standing pat and letting ourselves get a year older while adding shitty spare parts like last year can’t happen again.

Round 2
Boston-Canes… Yes please
Pens-Caps…. I think the interwebs might just explode.
Wings-Ducks… I’m cheering for an Earthquake while the games in Anaheim… or Detroit naitives finally just torch their city, along with the fans. But minus that, I’m cheering for the Ducks
‘Hawks-Canucks… yes please (I’ll be taking going for the Canucks.)
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:17 PM MDT reply actions
Yeah
Unbelievably, the Canucks are the most likable team left in the West. I can’t believe I just typed that in all seriousness. The second round should be awesome.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 8:19 PM MDT up reply actions
Yeah
I don’t mind the Canucks since the Burke era ended. I don’t mind the Blackhawks, but I can’t say I like them either.
My worst nightmare was a Flames-Wings WCF, thankfully it’s down to 1/2 a nightmare. I can’t believe i’m cheering for the Ducks to make the WCF.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:24 PM MDT up reply actions
Blackhawks
just like the Caps for me. I like watching the team, but the constant whining and baaaaaawwww of the guys at Second City Hockey earlier this year really turned me off. Noticing the trend here?
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 8:25 PM MDT up reply actions
lol
I went over to Second city hockey for a game when they just started and it was dead. But i’ve got no ill will towards them.
I do like the guys at Nucks Misconduct though.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:29 PM MDT up reply actions
[tear...sniff...]
i lost the canes-devils internet feed and got distracted by dinner. turned on just in time to see the highlights. god dammit.
i have to get center ice next year.

ending of the year in the NHL.. well besides the 0.2 seconds to go Canes win the other night.

I’m really looking forward to Boston-Carolina. I wonder how Boston will play against a team that is actually of playoff caliber.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 8:36 PM MDT up reply actions
Boston
I think they are terribly overacheiving this season. I keep waiting for them to come back to earth.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 28, 2009 8:37 PM MDT up reply actions
Montreal
made Kobasew look like an All-Star. I can’t believe how bad that series was. The Montreal Canadiens Eulogy over on PPP was hilarious.

I hope to god i get asked to write the Red Wings one… that would make me incredibly happy.

I’m still stunned over that NJ/Carolina finish…wow. Hey Marty…Patty’s better :-)

Hahahaha
Exactly.
That ending was mind-blowing though.
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2009 8:51 PM MDT up reply actions
That Stall goal Marty just plain MISSED. It went over the leg pad and under the glove. If Marty gets his glove on his pad…that game goes to OT. But again…Patty’s better!
Most teams are dejected when they lose a game 7…but the Devils reminded me of the Avs a bit. After Jussi ties the game, the Devils just plan gave up. Granted there was only a minute left…but they were completely deflated by the GT goal.
Don’t misinterpret me, but that shot went over the leg and under the BLOCKER. That is, by definition, the Best place to shoot on a butterfly goalie. Not so much that he missed it, as he was maybe a tad off angle for a lefty shooter, and Staal made a HELLAVA shot. I bet he’s drowning in hookers and beer right now…

One might argue that your change simply substituted one homonym for another!?
Sorry Marty!
Not really. HaHa!
I’ve never thought Marty was much of a butterfly goalie though, doesn’t he normally go for the half butterfly kick save on shots betwen the pad and blocker
The Savage has spoken. Let it be done

I honestly don’t get why people think Marty’s better than Roy, Roy steps up in playoffs and when it counts and Marty clearly doesn’t do it nearly as well, as evidenced by this series and the ’01 cup finals, and yeah, the 10 STRAIGHT OT PLAYOFF wins patrick roy has trumps anything any other NHL goalie has done, especially Brodeur
The Savage has spoken. Let it be done
"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference"
R. Frost
Well
For all the great moments Roy had, there were the occasional Statue of Liberty plays and the 7-0 Game 7, of course.
Still, I totally agree with you. And no, I wouldn’t put Brodeur in with butterfly goalies. Doesn’t he pride himself on the fact that he doesn’t consider himself to be one?
If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding! HOW can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?!
by A.J. Haefele on Apr 30, 2009 3:55 AM MDT up reply actions
Yeah, he’s the poster boy for ‘hybrid’ goalies. Using whatever works. Mildly less positional, still mechanically sound (except for the paddle down I mentioned above). He still breaks out the BF when appropriate, but he isn’t a pure blocking BF goalie, IMO.
